Mysterious Tower

First Appearance: KINGDOM HEARTS II (2006)
Origin: The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1940)

The first glimpse into the events that unfold in the Mysterious Tower come about when King Mickey undergoes his own Mark of Mastery Exam, overseen by Yen Sid. Eager to investigate and stop the Unversed threat, some time later he runs off without the permission of his supervisor, making use of a Star Shard to flee the world.

~Terra~

Terra arrives in the world just in time to witness Mickey's departure as he ascends to the sky admidst a burst of light. Proceeding inside, it is not long before Terra finds himself at the tower's highest floor, and in the presence of Yen Sid. Yen Sid informs Terra he no longer lives as a proper Keyblade Master, and after Terra asks about Mickey, Yen Sid explains the similarities between the King and the young Keyblade wielder - their wish to eliminate the Unversed, and their seeking of knowledge to fulfill that wish. However Mickey, with insufficient knowledge and skill, let his eagerness overtake his sense, leaving him unable to control where Yen Sid's Star Shard will take him.

After Terra explains the absence of Xehanort and the apperanced of an Unversed-controlling masked boy, Yen Sid suggests he views these two apparently seperate problems instead as one and the same. Stressing the dubiousness of such a possibility - but not a possibility to be ignored - Yen Sid tells Terra to continue seeking out Xehanort. As Terra departs, Yen Sid speaks to himself in reflection, hoping Xehanort's heart hasn't led him astray, as it seems to have in the past.

~Ventus~

Next to arrive on the world is Ven, landing via Mickey's 'borrowed' Star Shard in front of a saddened Donald and Goofy, lamenting that King Mickey must be long gone by now. The two initially think it is the King himself arriving, but their disappointment is quickly assuaged when they realise that Ven must have met the King before arriving here, upon this realisation eagerly dragging Ven inside.

In Yen Sid's lofty quarters, Donald and Goofy stand at attention either side of Ven as they declare to the former master they have a clue to the King's possible whereabouts. Yen Sid acknowledges Ven by name, going on to remind of him of Master Eraqus' order to return to the Land of Departure, but quickly dismisses his concerns light-heartedly when saying both he and the King have difficulty obeying their orders.

Yen Sid then asks for the clue to Mickey's location, at which point Donald places the Star Shard on his desk, and Ven explains that before he departed Neverland he found Tinkerbell carrying the Star Shard, and - after the fairy begrudgingly parted ways with it - acquiring it, he was engulfed in a bright light before finding himself where he was now. Though Mickey's erratic world-jumping had left Yen Sid unable to locate him, now that he has been forced to stay wherever he might be, Yen Sid is able to locate him, summoning a vision of the King struggling to stand in the Keyblade Graveyard.

Before much can be discerned, an interfering force overcomes Yen Sid's ability to peer across the distance. Emboldened by the apparently dire state of the King, Donald and Goofy declare that they will immediately find and assist him, although Yen sid says they alone may not be enough to help the King. The King's followers declare they will accompany Ven when he says he recognise where the King lay, though Ven says he is not willing to endanger Mickey's friends while he still owes a debt to the diminutive King. Promising to bring Mickey back safely, Yen Sid leaves things in Ven's hands.

~Aqua~

After departing Destiny Islands, Aqua finds Mickey drifting unconscious in the space between worlds and immediately moves to pick him up, the King weakly calling Yen Sid's name, prompting Aqua to take Mickey to him. As Donald and Goofy see to their King, Yen Sid informs Aqua of Eraqus' passing and, when pressed to name a perpetrator, reluctantly declares the act to be shared between Terra and Master Xehanort.

Aqua immediately declares such a thing to be absurd, leaving Yen Sid to only hope that such was the truth while acknowledging the limits of his own potential to see events afar. Answering Aqua's question of where Terra is, Yen Sid tells her he is making his way to the Keyblade Graveyard, after which Aqua leaves the world, pleading for the safety of her friends and steeling her resolve for what may await them all.
