This Birth by Sleep world takes place solely on the main ship of the United Galactic Federation of which the Grand Councilwoman is the leader of. As Deep Space takes place on a ship in outer space, the ship has gravity altering capabilities as well as highly advanced technology of movement detecting laser guns.
Terra first arrives on the Galactic Federation ship by mistake when he is attacked by Unversed while traveling through space. His unconscious form is brought onto the ship by Gantu whose orders are to look for intruders. Gantu quickly locks away Terra in one of the ship's jail cells. However, the cell is no match for Terra, the wielder of a keyblade, which can unlock anything. Terra escapes from his prison cell while the prison is swarmed by Unversed, he quickly eliminates them. His attention is then drawn to Dr. Jumba who convinces Terra to free him. Terra obliges and - when Jumba tells Terra of Experiment 626 - they set out together in search of experiment 626.
They soon find Experiment 626 locked in a heavily guarded prison pod. When Terra sets him the experiment free he snatches up Terra's charm. Dr. Jumba is then surprised to see that Experiment 626 listens to Terra's pleas and drops the charm and scampers off. Jumba is convinced his experiments have no hearts and tries to reinforce this idea by setting loose Experiment 221. Terra fights off the experiment which, when defeated, deactivates. Experiment 626 returns and the alarms go off, which is Terra's cue to leave the world.
Ventus stumbles upon Deep Space last when he chases a giant Unversed to the ship. There, he runs into Experiment 626 and notices that he has met with Terra and Aqua. Together Ven and Experiment 626 rush to the ship's engines where the giant Unversed is attacking the ship. After bringing the Unversed down, Gantu finds the two and tries to arrest them. However the two escape the ship.
Aqua arrives afterwards and is immediately greeted by Unversed which she eliminates quickly. After a short encounter with Experiment 626, she runs into Gantu who brings her to her in front of the Grand Councilwoman. The Grand Councilwoman recognizes Aqua and her strength and gives her orders to defeat the Unversed aboard the Galactic Federation and the capture of both Jumba and Experiment 626.
During Aqua's search she runs into Experiment 626 and together they bring down a horde of Unversed, afterwards, Experiment 626 flees for a second time. The Grand Councilwoman then contacts Aqua and brings her attention to a bay dock in which Jumba and Experiment 626 were spotted. Aqua arrives and notices Experiment 626's charm would looks oddly familiar to the same charm of which she gave Terra. Gantu, who is angry with Aqua sidestepping him, approaches Aqua and Experiment 626 and attacks. The Grand Councilwoman notices the fight from the ship's monitors and rushes to the scene to stop it. When she arrives she congratulates Aqua and demotes Gantu.
