RUMOR: Winnie the Pooh & Tigger to be featured in Kingdom Hearts 3?

Details

This weekend in New Mexico is the Albuquerque Comic Con where a variety of industry guests are in attendance to discuss their work in comics, movies, television, animation, and more with fans. Forum user MATGSY happened upon the chance to talk to Jim Cummings, voice actor of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Pete, during his autograph session on Friday who apparently had a few interesting things to say about Kingdom Hearts 3.

When asked about the chance of Darkwing Duck appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3, Cummings had very little to say about it, but did say that Winnie the Pooh and Tigger would be in the upcoming game. Does this mean fans should be expecting a new 100 Acre Wood world to appear in Kingdom Hearts 3?

Update (1/9/2016): At Albuquerque Comic Con 2016 in New Mexico, Jim Cummings held a Q&A panel where he answered fans questions about his voice work, and forum user MATSGY had another chance to ask him about his work for the Kingdom Hearts series.

While he discussed his general recording work, Cummings discussed that they have to "paraphrase the original Japanese script" which can create challenges for them to record the dialogue, but voicing Tigger in this manner is "fun".

Although unbidden, Cummings also added that his part of recording for Kingdom Hearts 3 is already completed.

Please keep in mind that nothing about these characters nor a potential Winnie the Pooh world has been confirmed by Square Enix or Disney at this time, so please take this information with a grain of salt.

UPDATE: StephanieWorld has uploaded a video of the panel, which contains MATSGY asking his question to Jim Cummings at the 5:15 mark. The Kingdom Hearts III remark comes at 6:35. Thanks to Jgray123487 for linking the video to us!

This isn't even a surprise for me. Lets be honest, Winnie The Pooh has always been in the main series games, plus, Kingdom Hearts has yet to represent Winnie The Pooh 2011. I think Jim Cummings leaking this news isn't as big of a deal as people are making it out to be.

If the world is not there I know one guy who'll be disappointed, this guy!
Especially now with the hole book of prophecy thing going on but I always loved that world either way.
After this trilogy is done I'm fine if they take the world away for good (or till KH VI) but I want to see it at least one more time.

Eh..never hated nor liked the world.I mean the mini-games were sorta fun and a nice distraction from fighting.

I'm just not creative enough to know how to improve winnie.I guess if they just added more exploration then it would be a lot more enjoyable to me.

Maybe Christopher robins could make an appearance too :O..but seems sora just took his place.

There are a number of things that were in both 1 and 2 that I would love to have in 3 as some sort of numbered game tradition. Gathering the pages for Pooh's storybook is one of them, so I'm more than ok with this.

As long as they don't make it like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag where you had to free run all over the place to try and catch a sea shanty page.

You and I both know who knows more about this and everything else KH3-related...

In all seriousness: I'd say it's very likely that we see Winnie The Pooh back in Kingdom Hearts 3. The Tome of Prophecy is supposed to be a big plotpoint, Maleficent is probably still after Jiminy's Journal etc. A lot of books. Winnie's Book could play into this.

I don't doubt it will be in KH or that Jim is telling the truth (thanks to Matgsy for telling me it was during a autograph session) but I worry that sometimes Disney isn't very clear on what projects they are working on when it comes to their contracted Disney cast…but only because of what happened with Bill (who is still very adamant about what he said last year and I don't doubt he has done work on a Kingdom Hearts game but who knows what it really was for besides Disney and SE themselves).

It is just a doubt of mine, but I don't doubt Jim's honesty.

There hasn't been a good track record of the voice actors not being giving clear information on what they'll be working on (such as like what Spockanort said on Bill Farmer) or even as they're working on it (like the E3 trailer, Ben Diskin wasn't even told he was playing chess) so I have doubt, but I don't doubt Jim.
He either outright knows, has no doubt about Winnie the Pooh appearing again, or Disney's not being clear on what he'll be working on. Time will maybe tell.

I could maybe see them having decided which worlds would be in the game, and wanting the Disney voices in particular to be contracted for it and to have their schedules figured out or whatever. But I really don't think they've started doing actual voice work on the game yet.

I am happy for its inclusion if this turns out to be right though. I've always liked that world.

This was the question I chose to ask. With a crowd present I got cold feet about squeezing too many spoilers. He spoke mainly of the ADR process and how they have paraphrase the original Japanese script who creates challenges. Tigger is particularly "fun" in this aspect.

He added that recording or at least his part (& he worded it like that) is already done.

I'm guessing all the VA-talk from past months and all the rumours to went with them have been about 0.2, which (I guess) could be easily mistaken for Kingdom Hearts 3. When you think of it that way, it's easy to presume that all the VA work for both Bill Farmer (Goofy) and Jim Cummings (assuming Pete appears in 0.2 for a cutscene) have been finished already.

And not only that, but apparently it was trying to match with the Japanese lip movements...

tbh, the only thing that makes sense to me is that maybe this is for an upcoming trailer and not the game proper. Because, like, it doesn't make sense for them to be recording English VA at this point for the actual game and the fact that it isn't properly being lip-synced seems... wrong.

That or it's for something else entirely.

If I'm going by my previous statement about "books", maybe Pooh's book has some value as well. Who knows how 0.2 will end? Maybe it'll get destroyed at the end of that, during some secret ending scene or w/e. Or get stolen by whoever wants it. It's been described as special before iirc, and Heartless have been after it for God knows how long. Wouldn't put it past Nomura to do something like that. Not to mention how horrible of a sight that would be: using Pooh's Book for bad. Sora wouldn't allow that to happen. I'm just spitballing here, but in short: I wouldn't call it "impossible".

He still could? He did a very similar thing with BBS volume 2, teasing so many future plotpoints, and look where we are now. They're being explored in 0.2 (and 3). He could easily introduce something in a secret ending to get everyone hyped (which is what they're for anyways) and explore said plotpoint in a future game, in this case: Kingdom Hearts 3.

We're still talking about a secondary-minor character's DIARY, which didn't even exist until the events of KH1, becoming explicitly connected to an ancient book of prophecy.

I really don't think it is that farfetched, knowing this, that the old mysterious book whose history and origins have explicitly been stated to be unknown, and has appeared in three major titles in the series, could become more plot relevant. Like, c'mon.

But is it different? Both are books with the power to give life to sentient beings though magical or technological means. The Journal came to live through the guise of data!Riku, and data!Sora as its protector.

Didn't Pooh's book unlock people's powers as well?

At 6:53, Merlin reiterates that the book is not his and that it's "remarkable" and that it's known to awaken one's innermost abilities. Quite odd indeed.

Hearing this combined with Bill Farmer saying he was also done gives me hope for a simultaneous Japanese and English release for KH3, though I am wondering why no English dialog has been showcased other than the prologue. Pretty sure all of the battle cries in existing videos were recycled from KH2 or in Japanese.

This is definitely not for KH3 proper. There is no way they have finished English voicework for the game when it is still like halfway through development.

Well that's generally just not how game development works, even if they were aiming for a simultaneous release? There is a reason voice acting is usually one of the last things done in development and it's because it is a complete waste of resources and budget to voice and animate lines for sections that might get cut, or rewritten or removed entirely. Bill Farmer in particular, didn't he say he had finished his lines back in like 2014? That's just not possible for a character that is present throughout the entire story of a game that won't release until 2017 at the earliest.

I mean people have datamined KH games for years and very rarely (if ever?) do they ever find unused dialogue and that's because voice acting is typically done towards the very end of development, when they know exactly what they will need for the story so they don't waste resources and money.

It would be like a movie production filming the actors for every single draft of the screenplay instead of just the Shooting Script version.

I'm sure Bill Farmer and Jim Cummings record lines for something, I just have a hard time believing it was all of their work for KH3... :/

Here's an obscure idea, what if it's for Back Cover?

To elaborate, what if Pooh and Tigger are illusions created by the Lux in Daybreak Town and these illusion versions of Pooh and Tigger are characters that communicate with Ephemera. Yeah, it seems really far-fetched but I wouldn't rule that possibility out entirely.

Or alternatively...

There's a door in the realm of darkness that leads Aqua in 100 Acre Wood. Sure, she didn't go in the conventional way, but what if, her light was so strong against the darkness in the realm of darkness that she was able to open a new pathway to 100 acre wood and unwinded with Pooh and Tigger before returning back to the realm of darkness?

I want to believe that this is for Kingdom Hearts III, and that it hints at a simultaneous worldwide release date, but...

Well, my heart is saying "yes", but my head is saying "no".

ANYWAY, I could see Pooh's storybook being connected to the Tome of Prophecies. It really does somehow seem to be a place of light, removed from darkness and Heartless (like the whole RoL originally was), so...

If Winnie the Pooh is to be in KHIII, though, I couldn't be more excited about that world! There's just something about it... And the nostalgic part of me just has so much fun in it these days. So far it's been in every main game, so I think it would be a crime to leave it out of the finale. C'mon, Heffalump movie!:D

While Bill is very adamant about what he said, it is pretty likely he was speaking about another game. The scenario for KH3 wasn't even finished when 2015 started. 2.8, though? Sounds like the likely contender or something else entirely.

And since nothing came out last year, we won't really know what it was for certain.

What people need to remember is that when they call the VAs in, they rarely explain what is going on. They may know it is the next game but not if it is KH3.

Pooh's Grand Adventure is one of the four movies tied as my pick for the best film of all time. And it's absolutely a heartbreaking tearjerker.

So yes I'd be happy to have the Hundred Acre Wood back. A few months back I brainstormed a massive plan for a Winnie the Pooh platformer on the scale of an Assassin's Creed game with free-roam and everything, this could be the closest I'd ever get to my idea.

But if Pooh and friends really do appear in Chi, then they'll probably show up for Back Cover and that's probably what Jim recorded for.

They kinda already did cover the main theme of PGA in II, namely the "always be with you" theme that has me bawling just 10 minutes into that film. And we've already seen elements of PGA in II, like Skull (which is real here), and also that valley of butterflies at Kanga's house. That said, I wouldn't mind a straightforward adaptation of PGA and yes, "Wherever You Are", the saddest song ever recorded, fits pretty nicely with the predicaments of many of the main cast.

I always loved that about Hundred Acre Wood in KH1 especially. All hell is breaking loose, billions of people are being wiped out by eldritch monsters, your friends are missing, etc. KH1 had a pretty dark atmosphere even before the plot got serious with Ansem and everything. Going to Hundred Acre Wood was like having a sweet, peaceful nap before waking up and going back to war. It'd be great to stay there forever, but nothing lasts forever. If III really does end up becoming the darkest of the series, I'd love the sweet reprieve of playing with Pooh and his friends.

2.8 consists of 3 titles, and while Aqua's journey may be one world long in the Castle of Dreams, we don't exactly know what it will detail within that time.

Also, maybe it is Back Cover and 100 Acre Wood was a book that existed even that far in the past...

Or it could be exactly what he is saying and it is KH3. I mean if he said stuff like "Sora", he'd probably be keenly aware of what the game is.

At this point we just can't reject anything, though.

The Book of Prophecies can call things from the past, present, and future. The entire premise of chi is that the Foretellers are pulling worlds from the future with the book to collect light from. The cards are power from the future pulled from the book. Winnie the Pooh is a book from who knows when with mysterious power and can easily be pulled from the same book everything else is coming from.

I'm not defending the idea, but it isn't absurd when chi is all about pulling people and worlds and stuff from a book. And Re:coded was about digitizing a journal and it became Riku.

They aren't real, yes, but that doesn't mean anything in this context. I am saying that 100 Acre Wood can be pulled from out of the Book of Prophecies and be visited as a world in chi/UX/BC.

As for what he means, we don't know. It can literally be KH3 or it could be something in 2.8 since they tend to not be upfront about what game it really is.

Pooh, Piglett, Tigger and freaking Eeyore onnected with the Book of Prophecies? can't see it happening

Aladdin, the dwarves, Alice, Gaston, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, their gummi ship, every single character featured in the cards/medals, and pretty much every other character featured in chi that has been connected to the Book of Prophecies is possible but Pooh, Piglett, Tigger, and so on being connected to the book via their world appearing or the book existing that far in the past is weird?

Oh I missed this post earlier. Thanks for the hard proof, it's a bit awkward realizing nobody has any reason to actually believe a word I say.

Man it's weird to hear your own voice.

Ahhh, video proof <3 TY Matgsy for asking my question <3 and thank you Jgray for finding the video!

Well I felt asking the questions that were digging for direct spoilers (IE is Pete in?) would be a bit "improper", so your's was the only one I felt comfortable with. I was halfway joking when I asked about Darkwing before.

Then again, Jim's apparently quite willing to let slip details that he shouldn't so perhaps in hindsight I should've tried my luck with the other questions. *shrugs*

Maybe the Tome of Prophecy is kinda like the Force? It holds the fabric of the universe together. So technically yes, Pooh's book can be connected to it.

However, note that they kinda refrain from making any one Disney world super important to the main series plot. Yes, several world's like Neverland are the setting for important events, but that's the thing. They're just settings. The characters who play the largest role from Disney are the non film-specific characters, with the exception of Yen Sid and Maleficent. The former never had too much importance in his original film and he was only around for one segment. Maleficent here feels like a new, fresh take on the character. She's no longer the master of evil, no longer the top dog, and has very little to do with the plot of her film. It's kinda like how Toy Story refrained from using toys with existing personalities like Optimus Prime, and settled for "blank slate" toys to use as the main cast. Mickey, Donald and Goofy are all characters who are cast differently in each appearance. Mickey here is a battle-hardened, serious King, whereas in House of Mouse he's just a club owner.

My point is that rarely do pre-established characters play huge roles in the series. The exceptions are Yen Sid, Maleficent, Beast (in KH1), and the Princesses of Heart. It would be odd for them to pick out, say, Aladdin to permanently join the main cast and be with Sora all the way to End of the World or Xemnas. Just like it'd be weird for Pooh's world to suddenly become one, among the dozens of world's featured, to become such an important part of the series' plot.

He never actually said that pooh and tigger would be in kh3, he only talked about the process of those characters for the sake of the question, then he jumped ahead saying his part for kh3 is done. This could mean Pete shows up in the beginning for 2 minutes and then dies (kidding), but it may still just be pete.

Oooooh this video is only one of the times, that's right my mistake. That makes me a bit happier. It would be seriously be terrible if everyone (well the people that like the world) gets hyped for this news and then in the game Pooh and Tigger are nowhere to be found. I just hope we can truly assume the characters returning will be the case.

Also wasnt the last time Tigger had any speaking lines kh2? So I doubt he would specifically remember Tigger being interesing to do lines for when it was 10 years ago.

All I can imagine is Xehanort's exasperation over being in such a place and the wrongness of it all. Eraqus…I guess that could work but why would they go there?

Well with all this talk of 100 Acre possible relation to the Book of Prophecies, maybe there is something in that world that could be relevant to that?

But mostly I just thought of those two cause having someone else visit the world besides Sora in KH3 would be refreshing.

Yeah well of course some characters follow the same pattern. And sometimes it works, while sometimes it doesn't. That's what I meant by saying that Jar Jar and the attitude of his just didn't fit into Star Wars. Who knows if he would've been as terrible in another franchise.

Which brings me back to Winnie Puuh...! To me, the whole world has been mostly terrible in this franchise but on it's own, Winnie Puuh hasn't been too bad.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that George Lucas said in the past that he created Jar Jar with the intention of him being the Star Wars equivalent of Goofy and of old school silent film-era comedy actors such as Buster Keaton. It just so happened that Lucas didn't understand how to properly execute that sort of comedy and Jar Jar became the most notorious stain in the history of the Star Wars franchise. However I could be misremembering that, so potential disclaimer there.

But yeah, while I always liked Goofy growing up, I definitely think his best incarnations are the Goof Troop/Goofy Movie/Extremely Goofy Movie-verse one and the KH Goofy. In fact, growing up, I always headcanoned that Silvia Marpole from EGM was the librarian at Disney Castle and that Max was busy training as a royal guard at the Castle while Goofy was off on his adventures with Sora and Donald.

A Goofy Movie is what made me like Goofy, and even then I kind of liked Max more. Donald was always one of my favourite recurring DISNEY characters, so when I saw him as a partner in KH I was so excited (this is why I always swap out Goofy for a world's team mate... and because Donald can heal). Mickey is a character I never cared for ever, I think the only thing I ever liked Mickey in was one of the Christmas movies they did.

Anyway, I digress. If they don't do 100 Acre Wood, I'm hoping that Pooh and/or Tigger are summons in KH3. I remember when I got KHCoM on the GBA, there were rumours at my school that Pooh was a summon and that you had to do everything in the game before you unlocked him and when you did, he was the strongest summon of them all. I don't know if anyone else was privy to rumours like that growing up, but I kind of feel like a summon for Pooh would be pretty interesting.

ridiculous buffs sound great. honey attracts more aggressive heartless but raises crit, corona increases healing effectiveness but lowers speed, hades makes you "mortal", decimating your attack and defense but doubling EXP gain, sorcerer's apprentice where attack is gone but magic is doubled, etc.

off subject but that sounds so good, a more interactive and balanced version of the difficulties from re:coded.

Imagine having a Honey Accessory that attracts more heartless encounters.

Actually, this is something I needed since KH1.
An accessory for more encounters and one for less / none. They did that somewhat with CoM and I thought it wasn't a bad idea.

Everything about the gameplay of CoM was bad. I would never suggest bringing back anything from CoM. The encounter plus abilty in KH1 was very useful though.

Yeah, well, no. I liked the gameplay (a million times more than Days-gameplay at least) and it's not actually about bringing anything about the CoM-gameplay back, but just the ability to have more or less encounters.

imagine an accessory that raises the chance of enemies like the vending machine or pots from bbs.

And reduces the chance of enemies like that fat-bellied asshole thing. Large body? Whatever.

maybe a buff that shrinks enemies and you can step on them, that would be fun.

Right, I liked that spell in BBS even though it really made enemies ridiculously easy. xD
