Tetsuya Nomura & Hideo Kojima to Attend San Diego Comic Con 2014!

Details

If you had made any big plans to attend any panels at San Diego Comic Con this year, you should probably rethink them. Kingdom Hearts Series Director Tetsuya Nomura will be attending San Diego Comic Con 2014 for the first time ever and will be holding a special autograph session for fans alongside Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise!

Nomura & Kojima's joint autograph session will be held at the Square Enix Booth (#3829) at an undisclosed time. To get a ticket for the autograph session, you must buy a qualified Play Arts -Kai- figure at their booth which will be in limited quantities, so get there early to purchase one! They will be signing special San Diego Comic Con 2014 postcards to commemorate the event.

If you miss out on getting a ticket for Nomura & Kojima's special autograph session, you can still try out the many game demos Square Enix will have at their booth for Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX-, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, and more!

San Diego Comic Con 2014 takes place July 24th-27th.

Follow Kingdom Hearts Insider on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr for the latest updates on Kingdom Hearts -HD 2.5 ReMIX- & Kingdom Hearts 3!

Hmmm. Suspicious. In a very good way. I'm getting a D23 2013 vibe from this news. Perhaps there will be an announcement of some sort. If so, probably about FFXV.

No fucking way. Lucky those who get to see the man in person and get his autograph. I'd die to be there next weekend.

Hopefully some announcement will become of this

Apparently his autograph session will be with Kojima. Makes a lot more sense that way considering they're best friends.

*narrows eyes* mm

This is pretty cool, considering Disney isn't really doing anything for comicon this year.

Holy—what!? Never have I wished I were living in the US more than I do now. I would absolutely be willing to queue in a snaking line to get my hands on the Play Arts Kai. Speaking of which, I'm very curious as to what this (these?) qualified PAK is (are?) of. If it's in the video, I'm sorry, but I can't open it right now.

You blessed, fortunate souls! Those who do go there, please have fun on behalf of us who aren't so lucky. >_<

I just want Nomura to relax at SDCC and get excited over Star Wars and Marvel films and TWD and everything. He and Kojima are the biggest cinephiles so if Nomura does not ditch his obligations besides the autograph session, I will be upset!

Considering that Nomura normally is not so keen on attending events this really says alot, maybe Kojima nagged him long enough so he agreed to tag along, lol.

Wow, lucky those who are attending who get to meet and see him! I wonder how much this ups the chances of Square releasing game info at this con. Is it any more likely now Nomura has decided to come? Didn't Nomura turn up to Japan Expo last year as well surprisingly but no new significant info on anything was released?

There are four possibilities (all of which can be the answer or none at all):

1) Kojima and Nomura are good friends, love films (Nomura watches two films a day, apparently) and TV shows, and Comic Con is home to all of the best screenings (as industry guests I imagine they could get into plenty of stuff if they asked) and a bunch of important people will be there. So, as overworked game developers, they are there to relax a bit while doing a bit of promotion of their titles coming out this year (next year for Kojima).

2) It is possible something big might happen like a surprise announcement or trailers and interviews like Hashimoto hinted at in an interview earlier this year

3) Nomura wanted to go and probably had a significant amount of work completed on his projects/things are moving smooth enough that he could leave things to the co-directors so he was able to attend

4) Square Enix asked him to go

Two is what I want but one is most likely. I don't think though Nomura would have chosen to come to comic con out of choice though. Something tells me that is definitely Square higher ups bidding. But still, good publicity either way. Pray for some Hashimoto 'please be excited' surprises!

I think it's kind of weird that the creators of my two of my favorite Japanese game series are best friends. I wish I could go so bad... Mega64 better have some good personal videos of them meeting them. But they probably won't.

It's pretty odd because as of the last 2 years, Nomura has been attending A LOT of events. I don't remember them all besides Japan Expo, but I know he has been attending so many autograph sessions (whether they be raffled or him personally) compared to the amount he was before 2013, which was around 0 lol

I will admit I'm a little disappointed you can only get the postcard signed since at Japan Expo I believe they let him sign whatever you wanted, but it's understandable. If buying a PAK early and getting a ticket guarantees you his autograph, I will pay for a PAK figure for that autograph from someone else lol One day I'll meet him and get him to sign something I have, but in the meantime, the postcard is nice :)

It's probably quite likely that western collectors edition(s) news and release information might be released at comic con rather than anything specifically new on the big two games. It's probably even more likely we are going to have another Hashimoto quote with someone from Square going "yeah, no information but be excited/we are preparing information for release/please be patient/please pretend we said something important"....but I will remain cautiously optimistic as always ^^.

That's why I'm cautiously optimistic. The fact that he's attending means that there might be something important being announced there. Especially since that autograph paper is entirely dedicated to 2.5. Again, cautiously optimistic though. Last time, we didn't the info for the artbook for 1.5 until a month after 1.5 was released in Japan, if my memory is correct.

While I'm not expecting it, I also wouldn't be surprised if we get some new information regarding KH 2.5 HD.

Maybe something about the western CEs, the new poster
(speaking about the equivalent to this one):

for 2.5
or some interview about the development process.

What I don't expect (and honestly wonder why other people do) is anything KH 3 related.
2014 is HD 2.5's year so it's not surprising that KH 3 takes a backseat. If we go by the estimate that KH 3 will be out in late 2015/early-mid 2016, they will have enough time to focus all night and day on KH 3 info once HD 2.5 is out in all regions.

They had better make the KH2.5 equivalent of that poster for 1.5. That 1.5 art is the best KH artwork, in my personal opinion, ever. It's just too beautiful! I have to say that the postcard Nomura will be signing at SDCC is really lackluster, especially since it's just a combination of art we already have (1 of which is probably the worst KH cover art yet...).

Only another reason why SE should allow Nomura to sign anything. I'd buy that DDD Sora PAK again if it meant I was able to get not only Nomura, but somehow get HJO to sign it! But that dream is crushed...soiled in fact!

I was able to attend the signing :D Unfortunately, no photographies were allowed, so I'll try to paint you a mental image. Tetusya was in casual-wear, t-shirt and jeans, you know, the usual. Shinji Hashimoto was also there, wearing his usual well-kempt suit. Although the air around them was very tense, probably because no one was saying a word (not even fans). Tetsuya would quietly say 'thank you' while courteously bowing, and the fans receiving the autograph(s) would say their 'thanks' back. Shinji was always upright and sitting properly, which made it a bit intimidating to approach him. I didn't even get an autograph from him, but it was still intimidating just passing by him. I just don't think I was ready to meet any of them XD

Below is the postcard given along with Tetsuya's signature :] Sorry for the not so great quality image.
