Square Enix have provided new screenshots from the Olympus world in Kingdom Hearts III. These screenshots show off more of Thebes and Hades plan, as well as showing off Maleficent and Pete meeting with Sora.

This is amazing especially the screenshots and it looks like SDG will meet up with Maleficent and Pete at some point in the world.
Seems Pain and Panic aren't with Hades this time, that's a shame.

I don't know what is bothering me. I think KH2 Sora just doesn't look good in the new engine, or it is something about the shading theyre using for this world.
From the looks of it we aren't getting a FF character in Olympus. Unless they are secretly hiding him/her for when we get the game.

Just realized how, especially in that close-up of Meg, the texturing/shading is very reminiscent of how the Disney VHS box arts were rendered.

Now KH3 doesn't look bad at all by any means but my main issue with the visuals is still with the lighting/shading. Sadly there's not much they can do about it about at this point, it seems it's more of unreal issue then anything.

Well I did say it was possible a FF character could still be hidden.
I know that we can't really decipher the world's plot based on a few screenshots. But you can kind of piece together what will end up happening

If Jack Skellington is a summon in this game, I want to see it in action as my Halloween present from Nomura. Same goes for a Princess and the Frog world. I mean, we have three events across Europe from now through the first week of November. It’s a good time for a fresh trailer.

I imagine he will be a summon in the game. He can be either Ice or Gravity and he's one of Sora's closest friends.
I'm super curious what Xigbar's role in all of this is. I'm still hoping he teams up with the Cyclops at some point

I'd be surprised if we get it today almost to midnight just like how the TGS Big Hero 6 trailer came out at that time. So who knows, if not then perhaps it could be at Paris Games Week.

Yeah the saturation on Olympus is, um. A lot.
I don't know some of these look better than others. I guess it really is a lighting issue, but OTOH it's neat to see the lighting in one world actually change throughout these shots. Gotta say though Screen 4, Herc is like. Damnn. Now that's a demigod.

I've always been under the impression that all happened already in between BBS and KH1. This story does seem incredibly reminiscent of the movie tho, more so than ever so maybe something will happen like that and it will just be a weird skewed timeline where he has just been fighting monsters and hanging with Meg for years before that all goes down?

He's also already a true hero too so I'm curious to see what plot they're going to pull out of their ass to explain how Hades wakes up the Titans, which have been roaming around before.
It's like.... they're adapting the plot of Hercules where Hades has a master plan to dethrone Zeus and take over Olympus but they've ruined any attempt they could make at actually adapting any other bits of the movie so they need to explain stuff differently to how the movie does it.
It then makes me wonder if Maleficent will be involved in bringing the Titans out. Could they be data projections? After all, she is now one with the Data world? Or could it be Pandora's Box, the device which I thought was only in the TV show but actually does make an appearance in the movie?

Hm, yeah, I assume Hades' plan may be a bit different. I feel like he has clearly made his intention obvious in the KH universe numerous times now lol. I could see Maleficent being part of the Titan's "resurrection". Them being data would be crazy but in a way I could see happening ha.

A part of me hopes that Zack comes back, I want to see him older and how he looks in the new engine, but considering how great everything looks, and the fact that we finally got Zeus, I won't complain if he doesn't appear.

You're actually right with what you said on both of your posts Chaser and Sora2016, the majority the Hercules world in the KH series (except BBS) is largely an original story as the events of the original movie had already happened sometime between the events of BBS and the original KH even though it did borrow some elements from the original movie to re-enact select scenes. Other things that point out that it's an original story besides the fact that Herc is already a "true Hero" is:
1. Meg is no longer a prisoner for Hades
2. When Herc saved Meg from the River of Styx in KH2, he brought up his Father's quote from the original film: "For a true hero isn't measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart."
3. Pegasus doesn't show animosity toward Megara
4. In the Original KH, Phil mentioned to SDG that Hercules had to visit Zeus in Mount Olympus.
Although one of the things that still leaves me perplexed is that even though this is set after the events of the movie you got the Titans and the Hydra show up alive given that Hercules managed to throw the former in Space obliterating them and the latter getting crushed to death by a rockslide.
The same can be said for the other worlds, such as Atlantica and Halloween Town in the first game as both worlds take place before the events of their movies while in Kingdom Hearts II the former follows the plot of the original movie and the latter world takes place after the events of the movie.

But yeah, they look like clay models in that pic with Maleficent and Pete in front the pillars (which is just badass in and of itself); surprised that hasn't received more backlash. They borderline look like the Diamond Select figs.
Yeah the models aren't looking all that great, still good but I can tell that the models are limited by the ps4. Oh well, we'll more than likely get a remaster of this next console generation.

Gotta wonder what kind of hardware(maybe ps6 lol?)/engine would be needed to more accurately depict 2D films like Hercules and it's visual style into 3D perfectly.

That’s very true. And Olympus was even chosen to become a demo because it was one of the most polished and finished worlds by that stage (May). With the game going gold in 2-ish months, we’re pretty much seeing the finished product here.
Frankly, I'd be probably be disappointed by the nay-sayer's version of this world/game, as I'm very very satisfied. Herc, Meg, Phil, Hades, and Pegasus look particularly great, while Zeus is a little interesting, but I also can't really pin how I'd make him look better other than some basic color correction. The texture work is spot on and this is a great attempt at making these characters look appealing in an HD 3D artstyle. Megara's hair textures and her general shape are really awesome.
One thing that's interesting is how de-emphasized NPCs AND Xigbar are in this picture set. It just should serve as a reminder that these pictures are not recapping every important or interesting thing that happens in this world and that there's a whole hell of a lot of stuff we're still not seeing.
I also want to clarify or maybe get some clarification... all the 'titans' we've seen so far in Kingdom Hearts have actually been specifically called 'colossus', right? When Aqua defeated Hades and the Ice 'Titan', he said that that thing he wouldn't do, he needed a REAL Titan
The only time they're referred to as Titans to my knowledge is in Kingdom Hearts 1, some of those ??? battles. I don't think they are canon just like the Sephiroth fight was declared not canon too, right?
The Ice Titan shows up in Recoded so that means Jiminy Cricket wrote about it in his journal. I think it's canon because of that.
The Colossus is merely a replica of the Titan. It says as much in BBS’s journal, and Hades even remarks that he needs the real one in-game.
We can assume the same of the “Titans†that appeared in other KH games are just replicas created by Hades as well if we use BBS as an establishing point. This will be the first time we face the real Titans and not imitations of them.

I’m so glad that Pegasus has personality this go around. He’s my spirit animal. I think most everything looks great, Pegasus and Hades, in particular. They just need to tone down the lighting in the scene with Zeus, Herc, and Hades in the heavens. I don’t think their models are necessarily the problem. It’s the surroundings that they’re blending in with too much. One fix would be to open up the background by putting blue sky behind them instead of the golden clouds. Just to add some contrast. But at this point, it probably is what it is.

Maybe they're saving it for the game (though by what they've said, they probably aren't), but I still wouldn't assume the characters and renders we're seeing in the screenshots is all that's there.

As Oracle Spockanort said, the Ice Colossus in BBS is a replica of the actual Ice Titan and wouldn't be surprised that the one's Sora faced in the Coliseum in KH were also replicas of the original Titans.

From the translations from the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine, Hades is unleashing the Titans to get revenge on Zeus on Mount Olympus. My theory could be (even though it's not possible until we get another trailer OR the actual game) Hades would use the Titans in the first/second act of the world itself and after SDG and Hercules to defeat the Titans he could bring forth Lightning or some other FF character to manipulate as a last resort ticket to defeat Hercules (much like how he did it with Cloud in KH, Auron in KH2) in the third act before you Sora leaves the world. But who knows?

SDG seem pretty chill meeting with Hades. Speaking of Hades, he actually looks almost like he could’ve walked out of the film in that shot. That good old shader is doing wonders.

In KH2 you met Aauron seperately and went along with him, but when it was time to remeet Herc Auron wasn't around. He then came back and you did stuff with him again. I am betting there could be a FF character that just is in and out throughout the story and probably wont be there for the final confrontation or the very beginning.

I agree I don't see any issues with the Hercules models and Square Enix did an excellent good job of re-creating the characters in the HD Unreal Engine 4 with the majority looking exactly on how they look from the original movie in terms of their details and designs (e.g. Meg's clothes, Hades smoke from under his robe, etc..)

At what point do we discount the in-game journals in favour of the advancement of plot? Jiminy wrote that they are both Titans that had previously been defeated by Hercules. Do we throw that out as it is outdated game lore in favour of making their "return" in KH3 less of an oddity?

Though, by the time KH2 rolled around they might've already retconned some of KH1 Olympus lore. You know..i wish they just bothered going for a more cel shaded look for the 2D worlds this time instead with the jump to HD so they can more easily get the visual style down.
There's just only so much detail you can put in some Disney characters and for 2D properties like Hercules with the current style. With the addition of cg properties it'll only make the 2D properties stand out more.
Imagine if they could pull off something similar to the Disney's short film paperman with all the 2D worlds.

Hades is an inevitability. He cannot be permanently defeated, and is bound to return eventually. Sora, always the optimist, is pretty smart to treat this with levity and a sense of humor-- because if he thinks about it too hard, he'll realize that he could be dealing with Hades for the rest of his life, long after Xehanort is defeated!!!
It's almost horrifying if you really think about it. Even within the Kingdom Hearts universe, is there any feasible way to stop Hades other than beating him up until he's too pissed off to continue trying??

If anything, I'd discard the BbS bio on the "Colossus", because I've always felt that was so unnecessary and over-complicated things.
The Titans got defeated by Hercules, and came back in KH1. Because they can, because this is a videogame and it makes sense to have them as enemies and because it's no different than how Hook and Ursula keep coming back (despite the latter receiving the most gruesome death sequences)
I mean, people keep saying to forget the BbS bio about some Unversed being created by Lady Tremaine and the modified cutscene regarding the Mirror, so...

Is probably my favourite interaction between Sora and an old baddie. Both parties are aware the other one is still a thing but are real casual about it.
Hades WILL win in the end tho. Sora will eventually die of old age.

I love how he's hardly bothered by anything exactly because he's a seemingly unstoppable God who's lived for who knows how long.
Things like Maleficent's plan and the Organization's attacks were just day-to-day occurrences and Hades is always like "Ok, this is now happening".
I mean, he scared Demyx off like it was nothing.
KH has always been pretty smart in handling Hades' godly status in my opinion.

Which reminds me that we've yet to see the mini-game for Olympus. Phil's obstacle courses would be a perfect choice.
We did see the Trinity Sled game there, but I think that was a Pudding Heartless challenge, which may be a bit different from the unique minigames in each world. I really hope Phil’s obstacle course appears, even if part of the tutorial.

Still, I'd love to see an obstacle course more faithful to the trials Herc faced in the One Last Hope montage. I remember actually enjoying PS1 vg adaption of the film, and it obviously had much more fleshed out DID training.

Phil doesn't need Sora to succeed like he needs Herc to succeed. Real obstacle courses are expensive and Sora doesn't know the difference.
We did see the Trinity Sled game there, but I think that was a Pudding Heartless challenge, which may be a bit different from the unique minigames in each world. I really hope Phil’s obstacle course appears, even if part of the tutorial.

Are you kidding. Eraqus would probably award Sora two MoM's once he saw how fast he cut through those stationary wooden objects! Not to mention he already beat his best friend at one v one dueling 99 times before he even left for another world. Like wow.
Really happy to finally see Megara confirmed. It seems obvious in retrospect considering she appeared in KH2, but I was really worried they'd find an excuse to leave her out this time around :(

You're so right. Honestly, KH2!Sora could have come out of the pod a keyblade master once Roxas reached level 99 in the Station of Awakening. Make the Nobody do all the legwork while you sleep, sis. That's using your powers wisely.
