Last night at D23 Expo Japan, the series's second HD remaster, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix, was officially announced. Consisting of a playable Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Birth by Sleep Final Mix, as well as HD cinematic story scenes of Re:coded, this remaster is set for release on the Playstation 3 in 2014 for Japan and North America! With a brand new trailer to boot, it seemed like we would have to be content for a while until further details would be announced, but there's no way we would end on such a note.

I feel like this is all correct as far as the epic is concerned, but I think Re:coded and BBS would swap places. Think about 1.5. KH1FM was in the center, Re:CoM was top right, and 358/2 Days was top left.
Therefore, keeping up with that pattern, KH2FM would be center, BBS would be top right like Re:CoM since it's the second playable title, and Re:coded would be top left since it's another movie.
Unless Nomura wants to be artsy fartsy and switch things up. Which he very well may end up doing.

Not sure if this has been discussed but KH HD 1.5 sold at $40 retail, correct? So how come Amazon has it as $60 retail for KH HD 2.5? Is this yet another placeholder or are they legitimately upping the price?

This. Even though the preorder automatically included the LE upgrade on Amazon, I just want to wait until its formal announcement before I throw down.
I feel like it's more fun to wait for a LE to be announced before pre-ordering. If you just drop the order for it straight away, there's no giddy excitement to be had. Then, if the day comes when one is announced, you can be super excited about that and the fact that you get to pre-order it finally. But that's just me.
I'm with the others in that I'd wait until formal announcements are made. Besides, there's no harm in waiting; if anything, knowing what the LE would consist of allows for better judgment whether or not I'm going to go with the preorder, although I might anyway.
I guess I'm just afraid of deciding too early and would like to gather as much information as possible before proceeding.

Depends on your definition of "few." Keep your mind open in case it does end up being released near the end of the year.

None yet, but it's only the start of the year. We'll be getting some news soon though!

6 months after reveal? Thought it was closer to a year? 1.5 was announced in September 2012.
Either way, I think we can be slightly optimistic about 2.5 coming a little bit earlier than 1.5 due to the lack of complications that 1.5's Dev Team faced. On the other side of the same coin however, they might release it towards the end of the year to give themselves some more breathing room to work on and release KH3. We'll see.

1.5 was announced in September. Six months is March.
3 months after 1.5's announcement in September was December, which was when the release date was announced. That also happened to be 3 months before the game would release in Japan (March).
Does that make sense?

I'm sure it will. If not, it will definitely influence the CE of Kingdom Hearts III. It's painfully obvious from taking that survey that they're starting to consider what they want to do since Square knows they're going to make fat stacks from KH3 and they're going to milk the hell out of it. Pre-order and CE stuff aside, there's gonna be apparel and posters and keychains and what have you in every Hot Topic and F.Y.E across the nation.
As far as 2.5's case, I'm sure it has something to do with it as well. Why else would they ask? They're probably getting ready to start getting it together and want to make sure the fans are getting what they really want.
Well whatever the case, I can only hope that the survey would not only give us more goodies for III, but also give us a little bit for II.5 as well. I remember being disappointed with what little content the artbook gave us; then again, I assumed that Hyrule Historia spoiled me way too much until my brother showed me what a collector's edition of Dark Souls 2 would give. If we can get some good preorder incentives from the likes of Amazon or Gamestop, then I can only hope we get a lot more than what we were promised for I.5. Just my two cents.
The hard work put into 1.5's LE was appreciated (the people who got it together deserve praise), but they showed art in the trailers that didn't make it into the artbook. Most of what they did have was released over ten years ago meanwhile what they did show in the trailers were actually unreleased and it was disappointing to not get that unreleased art after teasing it.
Also considering how few pages there were in the LE, there is little incentive to open the game just to look at the art...especially since I can just open it on my computer at a higher resolution...
(Also making the 1.5 CG art a limited poster item was cruel in every way...also it is impossible to find the right poster tubes for them to mail)

Who doesn't want it to release as soon as reasonably possible? But it isn't like there's anything we can do about it, so we'll have to live with it. Whether it's out in spring, summer, fall, or winter, it will release some time this year, as promised.
Now that LR FFX HD are released, I expect the marketing gears will start going full speed on 2.5 and FFXV soon.

Honestly, this was something along the lines of what I initially expected for I.5 since the promos showed us what appeared to be a book the size of Hyrule Historia though assumedly not nearly as long. But whatever, I'm not going to complain about I.5's artbook since I did that way too much to begin with and I do at least appreciate the fact that they had something in there alongside a special letter from Nomura.

Agreed. There are way too many games that have been rushed to meet a specific deadline and have suffered on some level as a result. Games like Kingdom Hearts II had this problem since the game was unfinished to some degree (though in II's case, it was remedied with Final Mix) while others such as Bubsy 3D and Sonic '06 were affected so bad that the former killed its own franchise whilst the latter came very close to killing its franchise.
So in short, don't rush the game if the end result will not be worth it. I'm not saying that this is going to happen, mind you. Just something that was on my mind is all.

Plus, Square would never put 7 games' soundtracks on a single release, that would be too expensive - FF X HD costs $40 and that's for one game

Nah, I believe it's just a placeholder price tag. The release date is still written as 31 December anyway, which I know is a placeholder date as well.
HD Remasters ares part of a budgeted line of games. It will be $40.

But anyway, a soundtrack would be awesome, but as already mentioned, they would probably wait for a bit until releasing it. IIRC, the first major collection wasn't released until after Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix + was already released; the next major collection wasn't released until after Days, Birth by Sleep, and Re:coded were already released. If they could pull it off, though, that would be amazing.

Not only is 2014 supposed to be the year of KH HD 2.5, the second HD Remaster is also slated to top the first one in terms of quality and content (no surprise with the big package of two FMs actually), and yet they keep nearly absolutely quiet with no actual marketing and/or previews at all.

I doubt that is the intention. I think they just are still trying to get things in order before they start marketing it. I.E. finalizing pre-order/LE/CE stuff, event, VO, promotional materials; trying to get the game done in general.
All we've got from Nomura is "yeah VO [in Japan] is done with" and that's like "Cool...but what about everything else?"
For a company that promised transparency for their games, they really aren't being transparent on this.

Depends when they start really. If they've started English recording by now, then it shouldn't be too long before we hopefully get news on the English version. However they might not have started yet and therefore won't be able to show anything from Re:coded or the new scenes.
Before worrying about english voices or an english version I would already be content if they release some info on the japanese release at least.

Agreed. We just need to bide our time before more information is leaked. At the very least, it gives me more time to get more cash ready for the game in case they do something more for II.5 than they did for I.5 that constitutes a LE or something...

They won't reply to any emails asking for the date of a game before they officially release that information (unless they are bored and decide to send a "We have no information regarding this title at this present time").

"Escape route", lol, I do not know from where the assumption comes that just because 1.5 had release in a certain month that 2.5 will be the same. Obviously March is as good as over and they haven't even a japanese release yet and I do think that a worldwide simultaneous release is nothing more than wishful thinking.
Funny thing is that I do not remember Nomura ever really promising the one-game-a-year thingy but only pointing out that he would like to do so. Up to now, they always managed to meet that condition, but that does not mean they have to.
Nomura and his team get nearly always flak from fans, especially western ones, which is more often than not uncalled for anyways because there is more whining than actual constructive critic.

PAX stands for Penny Arcade Expo. It's a gaming convention dedicated to all games, whether they be tabletop or for consoles and computers. Whereas E3 is an industry event first and foremost, PAX exists for the fans. Square Enix generally has a showing there, but this year their PAX East lineup only consists of Murdered: Soul Suspect, Hitman GO, and Nosgoth.
