Disney Buys LucasFilm Ltd.

You read that right. Looks like the Walt Disney Company we all love so much can't be satisfied with only Marvel Entertainment, which it bought back in 2009. For a meager $4.05 billion, all of LucasFilm's Ltd. assets, including Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound now belong to the Walt Disney Company.

Kingdom Hearts fans around the globe are most likely thinking the same thing: Sora telling Darth Vader to search for that glimmer of light inside his crumbled dark heart? The Last Crusade with Donald Duck, Sean Connery and Indiana Jones? As endless as the possibilites are, we are going to have to wait and see. So far there hasn't been any mention of Marvel in any Kingdom Hearts related products and there are numerous Disney and Pixar franchises that are very likely to be used in upcoming titles.

One might argue that the Star Wars franchise has been involved with Kingdom Hearts, ever since Birth by Sleep, with people going so far as to say that the relationship between Master Eraqus and Terra reminds you of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. There is also the obvious fact that Mark Hamill, who played the main protagonist Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films also voiced Master Eraqus in Birth by Sleep.

What do you think? Can we expect a surprise in Kingdom Hearts III similar with A Nightmare Before Christmas and Pirates of the Carribean? Perhaps the Death Star as a possible world? Or mayhaps an ancient ruin-adventure along with Indiana Jones? Discuss it with us right here on the KHInsider Forum.

A lightsaber for a keyblade is definitely in the cards.

Also, more importantly in the movie world, they say they're gonna try to release a 7th star wars movie by 2015 and release a new one every 2-3 years.

This could be very good for star wars OR destroy the series to the point of no return.

Darth Vader: Impressive young Skywalker. But your not a jedi yet.
Sora: Luke is more of a jedi then you'll ever be!
Luke: Sora's right, I can defeat you Vader!
Darth Vader: Neither of you can stop me. Soon the emperor will have full control of the heartless, then the galaxy will fall into darkness.
Donald: Not if we stop you first! *Shoots a fire spell*
Darth Vader: *force pushes away* Foolish rebels! You think you can defeat me?! *music starts* You shall feel the power of the DARK SIDE

The first thing that came to mind, honestly.

Sora meeting Yoda on Dagobah aka Sora taking the place of Luke with Donald as R2D2 and Goofy as C3PO with the rest of the gang would just be awkward because that little green Muppet would just eat all of Sora's food and steal his flashlight

And Sora would do Sora things like friendship

I've only seen the first 4,5,& 6. And that was a few years ago, besides it's not like any of this is being seriously considered

My personal opinion that does not matter:

George Lucas always fought for the rights of his Star Wars films and was proud to keep them his own. Now if LucasFilms is sold, disney will make new movies that take place in the EU where stories have already been created and published thanks to many amazing authors (Heirs to the Force series, New Jedi Order, Legacy series, Fate of the Jedi, etc). I find it HIGHLY ironic that Lucas would sell his flagship company knowing the results that could occur. Furthermore, its completely plausible that these new films will either take place so far into the EU that none but those who read the books will understand them OR so close to E6 that new actors will be needed for the active roles of Luke, Leia, and Han (because at this time period they are still young and active, unlike the actors who portray them). Finally, this is the complete opposite of Goerge Lucas behavior and despite my need to see all things Star Wars the movies would be Star Wars in how everyone knows it to be because it will be part Disney and that simply changes everything.

Long Story Short
-Lucas I may have lost respect for you
-Lucasfilms should not have beensold to Disney
-No new Star Wars movies are needed with or without Disney controling Lucasfilms
-the Empire is gone

again just my opinion

I know your question was a joke (I think) but for anyone else who wonders, nope. Leia will be an unofficial Disney princess, like Kairi :)

Also, this was very fitting.

Instant No Button! Star Wars funnies FTW!

I'm sure Lucas's opinion on the matter might have changed after Disney offered him $4.03 billion.

It gave me the impression she was a puppet master and Lucas was her puppet. She was pulling all the strings and he was blindly following her motions.

I wouldn't rule out Star Wars making an appearance in KH.
Maybe not in this saga, but after KH3 I think it'd be a smart move to shake up the old formula.

On the Square side, we've been shown that the properties are no longer restricted to Final Fantasy with the inclusion of TWEWY in KH3D. So I can see the same applying to Disney. While a lot of the naysayers for Marvel argued that most of the Marvel universe wouldn't fit in with KH's themes/tone, the same can't be said of Star Wars. As has been pointed out, the presence of Star Wars' influence in KH is pretty undeniable.

And brushing it off in general amounts to the same level of closed-mindedness that was so common when KH was at its conceptual stage: Disney and Final Fantasy? That can't work.

So I suppose you couldn't rule out Marvel either. The point is that they can find a successful recipe to blend franchises and make them work well together. But I don't know how likely either are in making an appearance in KH. Definitely something they should consider looking to the future.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Disney's too diddlying big now. It's almost as though they're trying to take over the world. Time to get more original ideas, Disney! It cant hurt you if you're this diddlying huge, or maybe just pay your employees what they're actually worth instead of the problematic practices you have already.

I imagine they all synced up and crying "NOOOOOOO!!!!!!" in unison. They all seem arrogant enough to exclude Disney, and do more George Lucas bashing saying how he used to have "it".

Here's the ultimate bash: He cant have lost what he never had. All the classic things about star wars were largely the ideas of other contributors to the series.

Actually Nomura felt Disney wouldn't go for it. I don't think he ever seriously pitched the idea. I doubt Disney would say yes regardless.

I don't know if that would bode well for Star Wars or FF fans. Some FF fans might feel offended that Sephiroth was replaced by Darth Vader and worse, Star Wars fans would be offended if Darth Vader wasn't:

1) Impossible to beat
2) Was beaten by a flamboyant teenage boy that used a key sword as his weapon.

Disney has the money, why not expand? It was a very smart business move to me and considering Episode 7, 8, and 9 were written a long time ago (at least the plot synopsis was) and according to one guy who had to sign a legal document that he would never speak of what he read after he read the plot synopses for the movies, he thought 7, 8, and 9 were some of the best movies in the series. Star Wars fans are ecstatic from the ones I've heard that Disney is moving along with those movies. Also, it is funny you should mention original ideas considering Wreck-It-Ralph is coming out tomorrow, I'd call that pretty darn original.

I Heart Chaos — George Lucas is donating all $4 billion of his Disney money to charity

By the end of the year, the $4.05 billion sale of Lucasfilm to Disney should be finalized. And since George Lucas owns 100 percent of his company - which has little to no debt - all that money goes to him. After that, Lucas plans to quickly put the bulk of the money into a foundation which will primarily focus on educational issues, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm tells THR. “George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors.”
