Hayner, Pence, and Olette are back in Kingdom Hearts 3, giving Sora the device which will allow him to play over 20 special mini-games!

Originally aired at KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ[Cross] Dandelion Meeting, this trailer reveals the new mini-games inspired by classic Disney cartoons and 1980’s LCD games that will be available to play in KINGDOM HEARTS III.

Players will marvel at being able to play within old Mickey Mouse cartoons such as Musical Farmer, Barnyard Battle, Giantland, and The Karnival Kid when they choose to play with the device. Some of these mini-games will also be available to play in Kingdom Hearts Union X prior to Kingdom Hearts 3's release.

We captured footage of the Barnyard Battle mini-game which looks to be like a very fun treat.

The minigames hella remind me of the old Sonic portable games McDonalds had in their kids meals WAYYYYYYYY back when so that's nice from a nostalgia perspective. Looks fun. Still wish Command Board could have come back in some compacity. I loved that minigame

I'm just in love with the NPCs in the background and I'm wondering how they tore down part of the town to build that big ass restaurant (since this game takes place, what, a few months after KH2?). It's French so Remy the rat probably works there.

Not sure if that was wishful thinking or a playful joke, but given Remy is located at Disney's Epcot in the France restaurant, I can totally see all the mice being like the Dalmatians in KH1 but in Twilight Town vs Traverse Town. Sora collecting ingredients from foreign worlds to give to Remy to fulfill recipes.

Also, I'm getting serious Downtown Disney or theme park Main Street vibes from this trailer (all good things...).

I’d accept that. Lmao.

The reasons I’m interested are A) to know whether that is English or Japanese mouth animations and B) why they would show that but not have it voice acted or subtitled. If it’s the English lip animations, maybe they didn’t want this to be the first time we hear the game in English.

Eh I think Nomura just likes Donald and Goofy's clothes as they are and has no real need to change them.

Personally i think it would be cute if they had clothes matching with Sora like Riku and Mickey.

I’d find it odd then that they wouldn’t have it audible as every other trailer (even ones revealed in the US) has had the Japanese voice acting. Surely Twilight Town has been recorded in Japanese since its early on and has featured voice acting in previous trailers. Idk. It’s just weird that they wouldn’t let us hear what he says in Japanese and subtitle it like before. Unless it’s somehow a one line spoiler, which I doubt given the context of the scene.

Idk. I just have a feeling that could be an English scene. The Japanese channel may have used the same version because there wasn’t much of a point in changing that scene when the line itself is probably not that important.

EDIT: Also, all the menu options are in English as well which could be a clue that this is an “English” trailer. Although, I think what we see of the Classic Kingdom is the Union Cross build and not the KH3 build, so it could be totally unconnected.

So, the Moogle Shop is still there. At least the building is the same. The armor shop is now a restaurant, but this doesn't neccearily mean there are no armor in the game. What interests me more is the new sign that is where I think the old accessary shop was. Looks more like a gummi shop?

I think it's just inaudible because he isn't saying anything that particularly great lol, and they just want the focus on the music and sounds and the minigames.

the minigames being in english doesn't say much. i'm pretty sure they're always in english. the giantland screen from the d23 in development vid wasn't in japanese. they actually do like using english for stuff like this.

I don't think they included dialogue because dialogue wasn't important to the clip. It ultimately doesn't matter what Sora says, and whatever he does say is probably just a line that will be repeated every time you win a game.

Some Japanese games have English text in a variety of places. The Japanese versions of Kingdom Hearts have done this before.

Yeah I get that it’s a trivial detail. It would just be cool if it was English because then we’d know they’re already animating for the English dub.

HPO are cute but they stole Sora's color scheme and it's pretty weird. I feel like you could paint Olette's fingernails midnight black and stick a copy of American Idiot in her anime-brand messenger bag and call it a day.

The minigames look...alright. Tbh they don't look like a ton of fun to me so I hope they aren't too deeply integrated into the game in terms of function (like unlocking good stuff), but as long as they aren't made to be terribly difficult it seems harmless. I'd rather have something puzzle or board game themed again-- not Command Board-- than something where you just time occasional presses of the button.

Yeah, this really bothers me. It's basically just a recolor of their original outfits with the red/black and plaid theme. In previous games, HPO (as well as all the other trios) had similar enough outfits, while having their own individual colors and styles. Having Olette go from bright orange with flowers to... well, what you described, is really disappointing imo. Plus, they're supposed to just be regular kids, and kids don't coordinate their outfits like this.

Yeah. From the beginning I was never in love with Sora's revised outfit but it was at least tonally consistent with his recent appearances. I thought Riku looked good in the Chikai/Don't Think Twice trailer but with Mickey I was officially ready to move past the FFXV + plaid aesthetic for remaining characters. At this point it would be weird if Kairi isn't wearing black/gray (we'd be lucky if she steps up to mauve) and that's just...why. You finally have an engine that can do great and magical things with textures and you stick everyone in the most timid, basic color coordinations imaginable. It's kind of a drag.

I mean Kairi is definitely wearing red and black, since we have that art of her with her hood up lol. And she looks like a Team Magma member.

In hindsight, I do think this is a bit much now. I, personally, love Sora, Riku, and Mickey's outfits. But HPO getting the same ones are weird...well yeah, its more like recolors with plaid. I do dig it sorta, but its also repetitive. Other colors are nice ha.

Right, like I don't think I understand the point of the experience for these minigames? As charming as it might be to stumble upon an old Gameboy or something and actually play a game similar to these on it, I don't really see how it's going to be appealing or stimulating on the PS4. I'm anticipating lots of needless frustration, but if these turn out to be just nostalgic, breezy and decorative I'm OK with that.

This really makes KH3 have more variation. I really appreciate that aspect, including that Twilight Town is finally given a larger map. With most likely even more NPC's roaming around.

Seeing HPO again is also very joyful. Although I can definitely agree that having them wearing the same color scheme as Sora, can be very distracting. Especially for Olette & Hayner, who wore orange and green before.

Despite that, this gave me the feel that SE feel confident with KH3 as of now. Sorta like they just don't want to reveal too much, since we're almost near the release of the game.

It'd be interesting to see how Sora gets his new duds then. I think most people thought it was a reward for getting his strength back in Olympus, but maybe Sora just goes clothes shopping in Twilight Town?

See, I thought of it as the opposite like "are the good fairies gonna hook HPO up with new clothes as well??" but this sounds more likely lol. I kinda hope it is true, a shopping scene sounds cute.

That's what I was thinking. We are only thinking that HPO are dressing like Sora because we've seen him in those clothes a lot more, but in-game, Sora is probably dressing like them for some reason.

Doesn't excuse why Riku and Mickey are wearing the same kind of thing as well. It's definitely some silly unity thing that Nomura has planned.

Yeah, I really, really don't want a potential new outfit for Aqua or anyone else to just be various shades of black, red, and plaid.

Although I'm thinking this isn't the case, because Riku kept his color scheme. I'm more bothered with his outfit because of the weird white plaid and the obvious riff of Noctus' outfit. But I can't help but wonder why Nomura didn't just keep HPO's basic color scheme then add the plaid, if they did this for Riku.

Kairi and Lea's outfits wouldn't look too bad with this design theme either. Lea has already wore something similar in BBS and making it darker would could incorporate Organization aesthetics. Kairi's would just be more pink then red. I'm kind of bummed they seem to have pink be Kairi's main color now, when it was originally purple, white, and yellow as her color scheme. Hopefully they let her wear pants.

this honestly does not suggest all that much, other than him just liking certain poses.
1.5's art, for example, can be seen as a riff on Noctis in the throne... except Noctis in the throne was literally a riff on an even earlier piece of artwork of Sora on a throne for KH1. like it ain't that deep, dude just has his likes.

and like y'all talk about riku's "sudden noctis haircut" even though riku's haircut is just an evolution on the hairstyle he had in the RoS in DDD from 2012.

I considered Remy. I'd rather Tiana, but it is a French restaurant. Oracle Spockanort pointed out to a few of us this morning that Twilight Town might have always been intended to take on French architecture in its design. The mansion is more of a chateau and inspiration for Twilight Town looks to have been taken from Sancerre Loire Valley as there are a lot of similar designs here that are seen in Twilight Town.

That is true. Plus his idea for the final world / final boss fights are something he has wanted to put into a Final Fantasy game so it's likely he is recycling that from Versus XIII instead of coming up with something original for Kingdom Hearts 3.

He was probably very excited to work on it. Then 14 bit the dust faster than Rohan and 13 just existed so his staff kept getting taken to work on those while his project didn't even get into actual development. Absolutely, it was completely unfair to him. One of the great things about Kingdom Hearts 1 were Traverse Town and Hollow Bastion because it had Disney characters from different movies interacting or living in that area. As far as reusing stuff from FFXV goes, I'm not too bothered by that. It was his game after all, and if he wants to reuse some of his ideas that never got to see the light of day or make it his again, that's perfectly fair and natural. That's still not really an excuse for pasting plaid into everything and using color schemes/outfits that don't fit with the character he already established 10-15 years ago, from a franchise with its own tone and aesthetic.

Sora2016
But we already know Kairi is wearing a red and black hoodie. Dunno what the color underneath will be...

She's wearing a white top with a red trim. The hoodie/vest is probably pink color if they're using the color schemes from KH2, as opposed to red (the red in Sora's jacket and the pink on Skuld's outfit are very similar so it's hard to tell if Kairi's is meant to be red or pink, but there is a subtle hue change).

The plaid will probably be incorporated onto her pockets, pants/skirt, and/or shoes, like they did with Riku.

Part of it is just simple cross-promotion though. FFXV and 2.8 released close to each other so they made Noctis pose in Sora's iconic pose on the throne and have the gang assume the poses of the Chocobros on the 2.8 cover art.
After all, we also had Sora assume Cloud's pose for the FF7 anniversary.

They couldn't because of Ventus. I mea sure, they could have opted to give him different clothes, but they probably kept his original design to avoid theories about how he isn't truly Ventus (no matter his name and all), so instead, they opted to make all union leaders have a similar style. (Un)surprisingly, Strelitzia and her dress don't fit in with all the jackets and layers the others wear...

Though I am also a little surprised and scared that HPO gets plaid as well. I am all for a new style, but I believed plaid is gonna be what the Guardian's of Light wear, not everyone.

What?
"Right now in this lead up to KH3 everyone is starved for big looks at the game. It's cool that we know these are coming...I don't know how big a fraction of the game this is."
"Y'know this was an event for the mobile game so they didn't want to overshadow it by being like, 'And here's Frozen!"
"Which makes sense."
"Yeah, totally!"

Which part of this review was unreasonable? They pretty much just said: this looks cute but probably isn't a major part of the game; it would be nice to have had more context about how this is going to be implemented; and we're looking forward to the next big thing KH3 brings to the table as is every other fan of the series. Real pot stirrers, these guys.

I realize IGN has a history with the series but SE has its own history of poor marketing, and imo this is an example of it. The trailer is basically insubstantial, and there's nothing wrong with people pointing that out.

The whole thing is such a silly thing to say about a little teaser trailer. It accomplishes exactly what it set out to do. Tease a small minigame mechanic that both SE and Disney seem to be pretty proud about. With the nods to old-school 80s gaming and classic Disney animated shorts, Classic Kingdom is clearly meant to be a celebration of early gaming and animation. They think it is a fun feature gamers, animation aficionados, and Kingdom Hearts fans could see as something fun and cute.

Not everything that is about KH3 needs to be a major announcement right now. When they start the their big marketing rollout, they aren't going to have time to focus on all of the smaller details in the game like this. Why did they need to focus on something big right now? We just got TWO trailers not that long ago.

And the whole point of showing it off was to use it as a lead-in to announcing it as an upcoming addition to Union X. I'm not sure what is wrong with that?

Even though IGN acknowledged the trailer was at the fan event, they continue on about how it wasn't what they wanted to see. That is the complete opposite of taking it in consideration in my opinion no matter how they phrased it. It boiled down to "We get it was shown at an event for something else and they totally didn't want KH3 to overshadow anything, but it wasn't what we wanted so it's unimportant."

Okay. If that isn't what they wanted, would they have rather had UX overshadowed? No KH3 news at all? What do they want?

They know what is about to happen soon. They got their invite to the thing that nobody can say more than a few words to. They had no reason to shit on this trailer when the news they want will be coming.

Pot-stirring doesn't have to be done in a full-on negative and hateful way. It is also clear they didn't even make this video from a hateful place, but they knew what they were doing when they titled their video "Kingdom Hearts 3's trailer isn't what we wanted to see" in the middle of people still riding the high of this little snippet. If that wasn't IGN trying to drum up negative commentary about KH3, I can't think of what else they were trying to do with this video.

Basing a "critique" about a short little teaser trailer for not being what they actually wanted full well knowing the full picture of what this event was and knowing exactly what is happening pretty soon is not what I'd consider a fair analysis or criticism.

Nomura: "I want to announce more finer details about various systems."
IGN: "We don't wanna see that!"

Seriously, Spock is right. IGN know full well that the things they want to see are coming very soon. I get that there isn't much information about the mini-games and if they are important to progress through the game but are those details really necessary? There's a bunch of games out there that have mini-games advertised as part of the marketing but they are just things on the side to do for fun.

This was a Union X event first and foremost, and they used the opportunity to finally tell us what Project Xtrace is. I'm just happy they actually included KH3 footage in the video because it could and would have stood on its own if they had just shown the mini-games while explaining that Union X will be getting them first.

I just want to know why IGN took a look at a 60 second clip from a fan event and thought it would be something bigger than something for Union X.

I agree with this to the extent that I appreciate there are people for whom this will push the right buttons and they'll get more out of the trailer than I did. Much like the theme song trailer slayed me but there were some who were understandably disappointed for a variety of reasons. This one didn't work for me one way or the other, but that's ok with me. I disagree with your implication that how the developers or Nomura feels about this contribution should have any impact on a review of the content on its merits. I don't care how much Nomura loves rhythm games: Ice Cream Beat was horribly implemented and it's a chore to play through each stage three times. In my opinion.

Oracle Spockanort
Not everything that is about KH3 needs to be a major announcement right now. When they start the their big marketing rollout, they aren't going to have time to focus on all of the smaller details in the game like this. Why did they need to focus on something big right now? We just got TWO trailers not that long ago.

I see what you mean and agree with it: not every KH3 trailer needs to be a Disney world/Keyblade transformation/Drive Form extravaganza. But the way you're framing their commentary is wildly disproportionate with the things they actually said. The video was basically just a rumination on what they were expecting and the fact that one of them was less than enthused while the other was pleasantly surprised at what they saw and repeatedly stated that they were looking forward to trying these minigames out. It was totally even-handed, and the suggestion that the trailer could have shown more was warranted. Maybe not a Disney world, but explaining why these minigames are in KH3 would be a start.

Oracle Spockanort
And the whole point of showing it off was to use it as a lead-in to announcing it as an upcoming addition to Union X. I'm not sure what is wrong with that?

Even if this were true, it was totally counterproductive, because all people are talking about is KH3, HPO's new outfits, and how this game device will function. The title of this article's thread doesn't even mention Ux. Square knows it can use KH3 to get the attention of game publications like IGN: that's why they did it. It's doubtful the Dandelion event would have been covered at all outside of KH-devoted sites like this otherwise.

Oracle Spockanort
Even though IGN acknowledged the trailer was at the fan event, they continue on about how it wasn't what they wanted to see. That is the complete opposite of taking it in consideration in my opinion no matter how they phrased it. It boiled down to "We get it was shown at an event for something else and they totally didn't want KH3 to overshadow anything, but it wasn't what we wanted so it's unimportant."

Once again, you've selectively misconstrued their review here, which doesn't even rise to the level of critique. The commentators do talk specifically about the minigame function, but they have to do it: 1) using as little information about what it is as Square provided and, 2) within the context of KH3 and the anticipation surrounding the game as a whole. So one of the commentators mentions (I'm paraphrasing) that the games don't strike them as riveting or novel knowing that they'll be packaged within the grander scale of KH3 with its lush Unreal Engine textures and general scope of it. The other says they look fun and cute and they want to try them out. There's nothing they could have done to further substantiate their impression of the teaser because there's nothing else of substance to it.

Oracle Spockanort
Okay. If that isn't what they wanted, would they have rather had UX overshadowed? No KH3 news at all? What do they want?

I think they just wanted to talk about the trailer and how they felt about it, what their impressions were, etc. I didn't hear any demands from them.

Oracle Spockanort
They know what is about to happen soon. They got their invite to the thing that nobody can say more than a few words to. They had no reason to shit on this trailer when the news they want will be coming.

Really? This constitutes "shitting" on the trailer?
"Hi I wasn't so thrilled by this."
"I liked it, more or less."
"Clearly we think it's garbage."

Oracle Spockanort
Pot-stirring doesn't have to be done in a full-on negative and hateful way. It is also clear they didn't even make this video from a hateful place, but they knew what they were doing when they titled their video "Kingdom Hearts 3's trailer isn't what we wanted to see" in the middle of people still riding the high of this little snippet. If that wasn't IGN trying to drum up negative commentary about KH3, I can't think of what else they were trying to do with this video.

Is it your contention that IGN supposed to positively spin their reviews to account for a fan consensus that doesn't and never will exist? I wasn't "riding the high" of this teaser. If you were, that's great and I support your right to be excited as much as I'm inclined to vocalize my disappointment, but the defensiveness indicated in your response borders on gatekeeping. IGN doesn't have a mandate to give the series good coverage, and these reviewers are entitled to their honest reaction to what they saw. Just as I am and just as you are.

Oracle Spockanort
Basing a "critique" about a short little teaser trailer for not being what they actually wanted full well knowing the full picture of what this event was and knowing exactly what is happening pretty soon is not what I'd consider a fair analysis or criticism.

What, then, is your criteria for an even-handed response to this trailer? I've established that they acknowledged the context of the trailer's presentation, included one commentator who was unimpressed and one who was intrigued, and that they shared in their reservations that there could have been more to it but that did not cause them to dismiss it out-of-hand as they discussed its merits based on what was shown. Your position appears to be that, "Any response from within the industry which runs contrary to the impression SE wanted to enforce is pot-stirring," but the whole purpose of a review is to discuss the lasting impression a piece of media left-- to provide a personal and/or merit-based interpretation of the material at hand which incorporates but is not resigned to the intentions of the author.

Edit for a couple of Chaser's comments:

Chaser
IGN know full well that the things they want to see are coming very soon.

I don't understand this line of reasoning. In the first place, the implication is that they can't talk about the future events they've been invited to, so I'd imagine that can't enter into the content of the review in any way, shape or form. Secondly, how does that bear any relevance to this trailer? We all know there's more KH news coming. If we wait long enough, the game might even be out. Things we haven't yet seen can't retroactively add value to this trailer.

Chaser
I get that there isn't much information about the mini-games and if they are important to progress through the game but are those details really necessary?

For me? Absolutely. Maybe not for everyone. But I'm just not that excited by the way these games look or how they appear to play, and I've laid out why in previous posts. That could change and I'm open to it, but a lot of that has to do with why they're in the game from a functional perspective.

My point is they already know when the stuff they want to see will drop so it’s odd that they turn something they knew would have nothing big into this controversy. They know when they can see exclusive things before everyone else, so it’s very annoying for them to turn the 60 second trailer at a fan event into “we didn’t want to see that”. From how the event was handled, it was clear that nothing big from KH3 would be shown. If there was going to be something like that, they would have invited various journalists to the event like they did with D23. Personally, I think it’s clear from watching the trailer that it isn’t something that is entirely mandatory, nor is it required to fully beat in order to complete Twilight Town. It’d be like any other KH mini-game where you do it at your own leisure and win prizes and maybe you will have to do it once very quickly in order to progress the main story.

So while IGN can’t talk about certain things, they do know more than the average KH fan so for them to throw this title at the fandom is inflammatory and makes it seem like IGN has not progressed with its usual shit treatment of the series. I get if the mini-game trailer was not what people were expecting from the event, but then I have to wonder... if they understood that nothing that could overshadow UX could be shown - like a new world - what exactly would that have liked to see? Jonathan talks about how he was excited to log on and see a new trailer but the contents of the trailer seem to let him down, and Marty isn’t impressed by how it is detracting from the visuals in Unreal Engine 4. Would they have rathered nothing from KH3 was shown so they couldn’t pull those comparisons between the two?

The mini-games worked just fine because it is a small part of Kingdom Hearts 3 / Union X that is getting its time to shine before new worlds, release dates, box art and whatnot are shown. If a mini-game trailer is unacceptable because it isn’t what they wanted, and something big that overshadowed the Union X event was out of the question, then what exactly would they have preferred to see at this event, or would they have rathered nothing at all?

I'm confused by the very premise that a tepidly negative response from a professional review to a trailer which has already netted a tepidly negative response from a portion of its target demographic is controversial. Again, the implication seems to be that if they weren't going to put out a positive review, they shouldn't have reviewed it at all-- because anything less than effervescence is controversial?

Chaser
From how the event was handled, it was clear that nothing big from KH3 would be shown.

I agree, but the content they did show isn't more impressive for it. We all knew KH3 wasn't going to be featured heavily at this event, if at all. That doesn't mean anything goes and the fandom has to uncritically and unanimously converge in support of anything we see about the series. IGN has a responsibility to articulate a perspective and response to this trailer as it was clearly intended to garner media attention from within the industry, and they fulfilled that objective.

Chaser
Personally, I think it’s clear from watching the trailer that it isn’t something that is entirely mandatory, nor is it required to fully beat in order to complete Twilight Town. It’d be like any other KH mini-game where you do it at your own leisure and win prizes and maybe you will have to do it once very quickly in order to progress the main story.

Sure, but within that general framework there's a lot about the implementation of these minigames and the origin and other functions of the game device as they relate to the game proper which we don't know. It's even hard to articulate what we don't know precisely because they showed us so little lol.

Chaser
So while IGN can’t talk about certain things, they do know more than the average KH fan so for them to throw this title at the fandom is inflammatory and makes it seem like IGN has not progressed with its usual shit treatment of the series.

Would it have been less inflammatory if the title was completely neutral but the review was kept the same? I ask because it seems to me the title of an article or review should reflect the content of that article. This title makes it clear where the review leans on the spectrum of positive to negative. KH fans, then, are presumably autonomous and can make their own decisions as to whether they want to indulge.

For perspective, an inflammatory title in my mind would have been: "New KH Trailer TOTALLY BOMBS." or "We Discuss EVERYTHING BAD about the new KH trailer." Even then I would hardly blink as you'll find tons of game and movie reviews which are framed with similar headlines all over YouTube. I just have a hard time considering a statement as perfunctory as, "This trailer isn't what we wanted" to be a valid source of controversy in 2018 on the Internet.

Chaser
I get if the mini-game trailer was not what people were expecting from the event, but then I have to wonder... if they understood that nothing that could overshadow UX could be shown - like a new world - what exactly would that have liked to see? Jonathan talks about how he was excited to log on and see a new trailer but the contents of the trailer seem to let him down, and Marty isn’t impressed by how it is detracting from the visuals in Unreal Engine 4. Would they have rathered nothing from KH3 was shown so they couldn’t pull those comparisons between the two?

The indication they give very strongly is that they're looking for some context within the larger scope of the game. How does the application of this minigame add to the overall experience of playing KH3? Or, is it possible that it might actually detract from the experience? These are valid questions to which the trailer doesn't provide concrete answers: it gives a very slight impression of something that's maybe going to be fun, and that impression was persuasive to some but not to others. I'm not sure I understand why, in making that observation and relaying one's own position, some larger ultimatum must be designed and conveyed to, what, SE's marketing department? I think it's fair to say, "This didn't work for me and here's why..." without being obliged to push any broader agenda or a petition for restitution.

Chaser
The mini-games worked just fine because it is a small part of Kingdom Hearts 3 / Union X that is getting its time to shine before new worlds, release dates, box art and whatnot are shown. If a mini-game trailer is unacceptable because it isn’t what they wanted, and something big that overshadowed the Union X event was out of the question, then what exactly would they have preferred to see at this event, or would they have rathered nothing at all?

Because I already answered this question in my above response, let's consider the inversion of this inquest first: from the start, if SE wanted to devote the Dandelion event to UX and avoid overshadowing it with KH3, why did they deliberately design a reveal about KH3 which they know will play overwhelmingly to an audience that isn't interested in their mobile game as a KH3 trailer? If these two hadn't explicitly mentioned where this trailer premiered and how it was connected to the mobile game, would most casual fans tuning in just for a sight of KH3 have known? My guess is, varying degrees of "no." That's why it's relevant that they talk about how most people, when they see a new KH trailer, are expecting something "big." SE has promoted that expectation. They want the hype. It takes these reviewers actually cautioning their viewers that this trailer isn't like that, and explaining why, and even agreeing that the reason why makes sense, to put the trailer and their review in context.

SE doesn't own us everything, when they want to drop something they will, they own us nothing and this shouldn't been a issue. I expected nothing, I check on the event to see what was shared and what was coming in UX.

IGN acting like this is really no surprise at all because they (and other so-called western "gaming sites/magazines") have been acting like this ever since 2006/2007 whenever it came to anything Kingdom Hearts-related not named KH III.

Regardless of what it was, it being Days, BBS, Coded, general anniversary stuff or DDD, if it isn't KH III-related there was and is always the undertone of "somewhat nice, but not what we want" and/or "just unimportant spin-off stuff not worth too much attention" coming from these folks and that is what has contributed a great deal to the attitude prevalent among some parts of the fanbase that everything that is not KH III is essentially worthless, a waste of time and/or unnecessary.

This whole issue is something that has been happening over a decade so why should IGN stop doing it now?

Not everyone is capable of learning and changing.

Yea... This is what happens when certain series run for too long - devs start looking for changes in places where they're not needed or wanted. It's also kinda funny because the Twillight Town trio wasn't shown that often (I guess they wanted to make them look important for the story, so they just changed their look like the main cast's).

Probably optional in the sense that the other minigames in the series were. You aren't forced to do it to continue on in the narrative and the only time it's acknowledged in-game is in this scene.

Although it probably will be necessary to complete the journal, 100% the game, and get a trophy. I would hope they don't have a Keyblade as a completion reward though.

Yeah the theory was that the main theme of KH3 being a game of chess, and all the characters with plaid are chess pieces, which sort of makes sense considering a chess board is basically plaid...

I'd rather have cooking themed minigames with Remy which yield items and other goodies than the Classic Kingdom stuff. Maybe helping around the restaurant could become a running (optional) subplot/mechanic in the game: if Twilight Town is the new hub world, going back there from time to time with new ideas/recipes from other worlds to try to help make Remy's restaurant 5 Star would be cool.

Our eyes are trained to overlook belts and zippers, so they can be blended into almost anything and it's easy not to notice unless you're paying attention. Patterns, especially big blocky ones like plaid, are exactly the opposite: we're naturally inclined to look right at them which makes them noisy and intrusive unless they're utilized carefully. Like, the worst thing about this plaid epidemic is that it distracts from Nomura'suse of buttons in the new costumes, which is actually really nice in terms of their placement and the way they accentuate the designs. Buttons are a perfect variation on zippers/belts, and they're a lot more versatile than plaid, coming in different shapes and sizes and functioning as accessories which can either be eye-catching or subtle depending on the design. So yeah. Boo plaid.
