COLDMAN!! What did you do!? How can you just make enemies? Although I will say I've never really noticed the errors he's been making, I've just been enjoying the story. And I'm anxiously waiting for the next chapter.

Hey, Annoyance. Go take a flying leap off a cliff. That would make some people happy. or at least go the hell away.

I'd bet money you're Coldman's new best friend.

Hey, Annoyance. Go take a flying leap off a cliff. That would make some people happy. or at least go the hell away.

I wouldn't be happy. Annoyance is a great asset to this forum.

See, this is why I hardly ever comment on stories. Most of them are crap, and when you point that out to people, they attack you. "It's not supposed to be perfect!" "I'm just writing to get this out!" We're not asking you to make it perfect. We're asking you to write a good story. One that obeys rudimentary grammar rules and shows some thought, not something that's horribly cliché and displays an abhorrent ignorance of the English language.

Go ahead and attack me for posting this, but I'm tired of sugar-coating my criticism.

I have no idea XD
You know its goods to give people advice but some times you people can come on a little strong. I mean seriously your post and Nevermore for example are always long and feel insulting even if you don’t mean it. A better way to go about it is to pm them this stuff so we avoid arguments that are very long.

That’s my opinion I honestly don’t mind your critique I just see were it gets annoyingly long.

poke land ftw!!
I actually agree with kingdomkeylight.MAybe PM is a good idea. I wasn't reading the story yet (sorry Coldman ;-;) but I'm sure Annoyance was only trying to help. So don't give up, Coldman, you hear me?

But let's just accept the critique and try to make this story even better! :D I'm sure that it was Annoyance point all along, but maybe you guys just missunderstood. So I really hope I make it clearer. Come on, you guys don't really want to make enemies, so why acting this way?

And Coldman, keep up your work and like you said, I think that stories on-line is for fun too. I mean, if I would write a story on paper for some serious reason, I would make it good and serious as well. So I agree with you on this one.
But I'm just mumbling here, so don't give up! :D

Not where you are, obviously...
What an arguement this is turning into... I'd laugh if it wasn't so ridiculous^^

Sorry to say, but I think Annoyance is right too. I know it feels kinda bad to get critique like that, but in the end it will make you a better writer. And it means she paid a lot of attention to your story, which could be considered kind of flattering, right? I would love to get a reply like that, even if it would make me feel crappy at first^^ It's better than my 'you're doing great, keep going!'

By the way, it's really sad we're all discussing this, isn't it?^^ So post a new chapter, Coldy! Don't let something like this get you down. Keep writing, preferably with the critique in mind, so that you can get better! Even if you only write for fun, isn't it a great feeling to know you're getting better? Work on the typos and grammar stuff first. Then, with practice , try to give your writing feeling and flow. As long as you keep writing, you will get better, Annoyance's critique just enables you to take a big leap, bigger than the step you would have made on your own. I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

*CRASH*

*groan*

*cough*

*sigh*

Looks like I missed something important... Meh, whatever.

Annoyance s right in that there are mistakes, and the style is a little meh, but the post came off a little abraisive in my opinion. Doesn't mean that you guys should start a flame war over grammar, though. Just a thought. *shrugs*

Coldy, there is thing called 'beta readers'. They read the first draft of your story then they point out the little mistakes, maybe suggest a couple of things to make it better and such. But then again, maybe you already have one. But if you need another, PM me, OK? I'm always willing to help^^

*sigh*

Nevertheless, you're really creative, and I really want to see you improve your style. Can't wait for the next chappy!

Chapter 8

Why . . . Why . . . Why . . . Why Tatsumi? Was the only thing going through Shou's mind, and everything else had taken a back seat. He didn't exactly recall how he got there, but the next thing he knew, he was at the police station, legs aching and out of breath from his mad dash towards there. He didn't register or go through the necessary procedures, but instead he ran deep inside the building, and took the elevator down to the morgue accompanied by an officer, and eventually he was looking down onto a table at Tatsumi's dead body. His skin still held some color and his eyes had been closed, giving him a peaceful sleeping look. As he looked down full awareness came flooding back into him and he quickly ran to a distant sink, hurling into the wide metal thing.

One of the officers covered the body again as the other walked over and rubbed Shou's back more of in pity than anything else. After he was done they escorted him outside to the elevator. Everything was quiet and Shou couldn't help feeling oppressed by the silent atmosphere, something just didn't feel real about what was happening.

"Shou." came a familiar voice, and Shou looked up to see Tatsumi's father walking out of the elevator towards him. As they headed for each other Shou started to notice some littlethings about him,the large bags under his eyes, the small wrinkles setting in all over his face, and a walk that didn't have the energy of youth to it. As they stood in front of each other, Shou finally noticed how he seemed so much older than the detective from seven years ago.

"H-hi." Shou said, unsure of what to say, "I'm sorry for coming down here but I just had to see for myself-"

"Don't worry about it." the man replied a little sadly as he nodded to the officers, who walked by and into the elevator, and left the two alone "Tatsumi was your friend so it's only natural you'd want to be sure."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't start that again, I already told you it's natural-"

"That's not what I meant!" Shou shouted, anguish and self-loathing dripping from every word, "This is my fault, and I'm sorry for it!"

"Don't blame yourself Shou." he said sorrowfully, putting his hand on Shou's shoulder as he stepped closer to the grieving boy. "I know you wouldn't have done anything that would have put Tatsumi in danger." And he escorted Shou to the elevator"Oh, and Shou..." he called, and Shou stopped to look at the detective "Sakura and her mother are back at the house. Could you go and stay with them? I'm gonna be here for a while."

Shou didn't look back as he stepped in the elevator and pushed the button to take him up to the ground floor. He left as quickly as he could and made his way through the streets until he he walked into a back alley, abandoned except for piles of trash and himself.

Aren't you gonna go to the guy's house?- Taruke asked

"I have other business to attend to." Shou said, changing into his signature black coat and jumping between the buildings and landing on the roof.

What business, Shou? Wait, you're not saying-! You don't even know who the murderer is!- Murai exclaimed as Shou started looking around.

"I do. When I saw his body there was a bite mark on the back of his neck. And the file that was just lying around said it was a type of poison that killed him."

Ah, put two and two together and we have our answer.

"Right, now will you shut the hell up and tell me where I can find the bastard?!"

Straight ahead.- Murai said after a few moments, though he sounded a little annoyed.

In a flash Shou was running over rooftops and jumping from building to building and in a few minutes he was looking at one of the most famous hotels in the city. It stood eighty stories high and he was sensing something from the seventieth floor. Shou's eyes started glowing red and he jumped up to the highest floor he could then started jumping up to the seventieth floor.

When he got there he looked around, it was a luxurious penthouse with a view of the city. It was seemingly empty except for a few pieces of clothing lying around. As he walked around slowly he noticed several things out of place, almost like a fight had happened. Suddenly his senses screamed out a warning and he dodged as three figures fell from the ceiling onto the spot where he had just been standing.

It was the three girls from the night before. They were still wearing the same clothes except he could clearly see the holes in their palms and the web tattoos on their arms. They had changed into their demon forms and they each had six insect legs sprouting from their backs and their teeth had changed to reveal fangs.

"I should have known." Shou hissed drawing his sword and gun as the demon's surrounded him "You just needed to get me alone and with my guard down to you could do it quick. But in the end you ended up having to deal with Tatsumi instead."

"Of course." the demon with green hair said, crouching down with all six bladed insect legs pointed at Shou "We would've let your friend live if you had come with us, but it was too annoying when you walked away and we had to let off some steam."

"You killed him because I frustrated you?" Shou snarled gripping his sword tighter.

"Not just that." the blue haired demon said "You should have expected to lose some friends when the other assassin came for you. As long as you keep dodging our attacks they'll only end up hitting those around you."

"Yeah, I know." Shou whispered quietly as the demons got closer "But that doesn't mean I'll just let the one's who kill them get away with it!" And with that, he jumped up as they pounced on him.

The blue and green haired demons crashed into each other with a sickening, yet oddly satisfying crunch, but the purple haired one saw through Shou's little trick and stuck herself on the ceiling. As he reached the highest point of his jump she shot out her insect legs at him. Shou dodged them, grabbed one and swung himself up, and pushed off the ceiling, firing off several shots at her as he landed on the other side of the room. The other two had recovered and shot out webs at him as he landed. Shou dodged those and fired several more shots at them, but they dodged them and charged at him. As he jumped over them the demon from above caught his left arm in one of her webs, then swung him around and slamming him into a wall.

"You should've just let yourself be killed." the purple haired demon said as she wrapped his right hand in webs and hung him from the ceiling "This way no one else will die because of you."

Damn it! Shou, you have to find out who they're working for, at least!-- Taruke ranted

Are you really just going to let yourself be killed here!?- Murai asked incredulously.

"Shut up!" Shou retorted as the demons got closer, baring their fangs in a hideous snarl for the kill.

When they were all less than a foot away he twisted his sword and cut through the webs holding his arms up. As he fell, he swung it around and cut the spider demons several times, forcing them to back away in pain. As they backed up he fired at the blue haired one and the shot nicked her on the head, which promptly exploded in a shower of gore. Without wasting any time he grabbed the remains of the webs from the ceiling and bound the other two, tying their arms back along with their insect legs in a single, fluid motion. After tying them back he kicked their feet out from under them and stabbed his sword into the shoulder of the green haired one, pinning her against the floor.

"Alright, you win. Kill us already." the purple haired onesighed, resigned as he walked over to her.

"You don't get to die so easily." Shou said sinisterly, and slowly pulled a knife out of his pocket "Not after what you've done." He then pulled the demon's face towards him and slowly brought the knife forward...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Here, detective." said an officer as he walked into a dark office and handed a manila envelope to Tatsumi's father.

He thanked the officer as he took the file and placed it on his desk.

"Detective?" the officer said before leaving, a pitying look etched deep into his face. "I want you to know we're doing everything we can to find your son's killer."

"I appreciate it." he replied, and the officer left, leaving him alone to look through the file.

As he opened it up the top of the first page showed the name "Shou Ichijo" along with his picture just below it to the right. As he looked through the file he went back and forth between the paper file and the information that was displayed on his computer screen. After several minutes of looking he sighed and leaned back in his chair.

"I know you wouldn't have done anything that would have put Tatsumi in danger."

"What's going on with you, Shou?" he asked himself as he thought through things.

For the past weeks Tatsumi and Sakura had been pretty down because Shou had started to spend less and less time with them, starting just a while before the Black Coat serial murders started popping up. What also didn't help was the other file sitting in the bottom drawer of his desk, the one involving the murder of the man who had killed Shou's parents. There was a lack of evidence, but everything said the only person with a motive to kill him was Shou.

He leaned down and took the file from it's spot and opened it on his desk next to Shou's. After a few minutes he reached down again and pulled up a bottle of whiskey and a shot glass. He took several minutes to down several shots before he put the cap back on the bottle and set it and the shot glass back into his lockable drawer.

With a sigh he closed Shou's file and reached for his phone. After dialing a number and waiting several minutes he was connected to a secure line.

"Hello?" he said waiting for the response "Yeah, it's detective Saijo with the 9th precinct. I'm pretty sure I have some information about what I'm positive is Black Coat's first victim." he said solemnly as he looked at the open file on his desk. As he listened to the instructions over the phone he looked behind him as rain started to pelt down.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shou walked quietly through the rain and back alley's as the hotel became smaller in the distance, his emotions becoming distant and foreign once again as he distanced himself from the source of his hate and rage. His gun was holstered but he dragged his sword along the ground, the blade facing upward as a grinding sound mixed with the rain patter. What surprised Shou was that he was just simply walking away; he thought the screams would have at least drawn some attention from the police. Not that he was complaining.

Y'know Shou, a name would have been helpful.- Taruke deadpanned as Shou walked away. -Not that they could hear me or Murai asking over their screams, but you could have stopped for a second to let us find out.

Where are we going?- Murai asked

"I dunno. Shut up." Shou said barely above a whisper as he kept walking in the rain.

How are we supposed to find out who's after us now!?- Taruke asked, starting to get very annoyed with his host.

"Well find out from the next assasin." Shou answered

Next assasin? Not that we care Shou, but the next assasin could take out another one of your friends, than we'll go through all this again and still not get a name.- Murai calmly pointed out.

"Don't worry about that, I"ll take care of it." Shou replied.

Suddenly everything became blurry and Shou felt incredibly weak. It lasted for a second but he ended up falling to his side and leaning against a wall for support. He noticed a slight pain on his arm and looked to see a long cut in his coat along with his skin. Lining the cut was a clear liquid oozing from the wound.

Shit man, you got poisoned.- Taruke commented.

"Poisoned huh?" Shou said pushing off the wall as the sensation of blurriness and weakness came back. "Damn." And he fell face down onto the ground as the rain continued to fall on him.

As the poison began to take full effect all of Shou's senses started to fail. In the end all he was aware of was the cold, hard pavement he was lying on and the cold rain coming down on him. He closed his eyes slowly as he began to lose consciousness, but at least he wasn't going to suffer. As his eyes closed he slipped off, thinking of how his parents might be waiting for him.

Darkness started to give way to a dim light as Shou felt himself lying on his back on something soft. He started to feel again and opened his eyes to see a light hanging above him. He looked at it for a while as his other senses returned and he became more aware of his surroundings. A delicious smell hung in the air, there was the sound of something cooking in another room, and he could hear the rain outside as it hit against a window. He felt that he was lying on a futon under some soft covers. He blinked and felt more of his strength return.

"This is the afterlife, huh?" he mumbled to himself.

"No, it's not the afterlife." he heard a female voice and looked to his right to see a girl about his age with long black hair and deep green eyes under the covers with him "It's my apartment."

The girl slipped out from the covers and stood up, revealing that she was fully dressed in a white T-shirt and shorts.

"It's pretty strange to wake in bed with a girl after nearly dying." Shou commented as he tried to sit up.

"You were cold, so I thought it'd help." the girl answered, taking a seat beside Shou and staring at him. Sudenly Shou realized he had absolutely nothing on.

"Where are my clothes!?" He asked, pulling the up the covers around himself as the girl giggled.

"They should be done just about now." She stood up and walked into the kitchen where a pot of something was cooking on the stove "And there's no need to be embarrassed, I already saw everything when I took your clothes off, you've got nothing to be embarrassed about."

With a growl Shou stood up, holding the covers around him like a toga. He wandered through the apartment until he found a dryer with his clothes inside it. He quickly got dressed and walked into the kitchen where the girl had set two bowls of stew on the table along with bread and crackers. She finished pouring some tea into two cups and sat down, waiting for Shou.

"Who are you?" Shou asked standing behind his seat as the girl took hers.

"I'm Nami Shihiro, and you don't have to worry about the stew. If I wanted to kill I would've done it while you were asleep." she said taking a cracker as she ate a spoonful of stew.

Shou slowly took a seat and began eating, luckily his stomach hadn't betrayed that he was starving. They ate in silence until the meal was done. Nami took both bowls and set them in the sink then sat back down.

It seems okay Shou, I sense no intent to harm us from her.- Murai said

Yeah, like she said. If she wanted to kill us she could've done it while you were out. If anything we should be asking her why she helped us.- Taruke said

"Well that's because you're the first person I've met that's like me." Nami said "But you have two demons inside of you and I only have Gahenna."

"Gahenna?" Shou asked as Taruke and Murai remained quiet.

That would be me.- came a voice that Shou sensed was from Nami -I am the demon that resides within Nami. It's been a while Taruke, Murai.

Okay man, I've just been busy with stuff. Now this chapter probably won't have the same charm and appeal as the last one, no time to have it edited.

Chapter 9

Hell, that was the only word able to describe the area. Volcanos, tall as mountains, spewed out molten rock from their caps, bathing the sky a permanent black from their smoke. The lava ran down the sides of the volcanos, gathering into deep lakes that flowed onward elsewhere. Strangley though, on the land that wasn't engulfed in fire plant life grew. The strangley bent trees had large leaves that flourished in the harsh environment, along with the vegetation on the ground. But what stood out most in the landscape was the castle. Set into the side of the largest volcano with a wall behind it that diverted the lava flow it stood tall and ominous. But the castle itself was nothing compared to it's inhabitants.

Inside dim torches burned to provide little light, just the way the lord liked it. The interior was formed of wood and elegant tapestries and other valuables that one wouldn't think could survive the harsh climate. Far in the back, upon his throne the lord sat, as five large spiders bowed down on the ground below.

"To think the Spider Clan of the East Region has fallen so far." mocked the lord from his throne. The only thing visible about him in the light was his deep red hair.

"Forgive us your lordship." the middle spider said bowing even further, "We've sent our best but they were unsuccessful."

"Well, if your best were beaten then it can't be helped." the lord said. He raised his right hand and brought it across his neck. In a flash two large figures that had hidden in the shadow at each side of the room burst out and went to where the other had been. The second they were done the heads of the spider demons fell of and blood poured from their necks onto the floor, "Even more mess to clean up."

Suddenly the floor opened up and dropped the bodies and heads down into the darkness below. The figures at each side of the room walked back into the shadows as they heard something coming into the throne room. As they hid themselves again a single person walked in, stood before the throne, then lowered himself to one knee.

"My lord." the man said in an oily voice "I've come to find the truth about the rumors going around. Is it true you're looking for assasins to kill the demon lords Taruke and Murai?"

"Indeed. And you believe you can be that assasin?"

"I don't believe I can be, I know I am."

"Well then." The lord said smiling "Go to the human world and get the job done. If you're successful you'll be rewarded very well."

"Thank you. I'll be off now." the figure said walking away.

"I don't believe I caught your name."

"I have no name." the figure kept walking "But my title is Orochi."

As the figure left the palace the smile on the lords face grew wider, "The Orochi came to handle my assasination request, how fortunate. Even Taruke and Murai will have their hands full with him."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Who the hell are you?" Shou asked as he held a knife to Nami's throat. After hearing Gahenna's voice he had reched behind him and grabbed one off the counter then pinned her against the wall.

"Someone like you." Nami replied without even a hint of fear in her voice, "You have demon's inside you and so do I."

"All the demon's I've met so far have tried to kill me." Shou said pushing the blade closer against Nami's throat.

Calm down Shou.- Murai said with a bored tone -This girl doesn't mean you or us any harm.

"How do you know that?"

The demon's we've met so far have always been in demon form. This girl is still in human form. Plus we know Gahenna.

Reluctantly Shou lowered the knife and took several steps away from Nami. As he backed away she reached up and rubbed her throat where the knife had been held against.

"Alright." She said walking forward and opening the refridgerator, "Do you want some desert?"

Calm down boy.- Gahenna said when Shou raised the knife again -Like Murai said, if we wanted you dead you'd be dead. Instead Nami decided to help you.

"Why?" was all Shou asked.

"Because you're the first person I've met that's like me." Nami said pulling out a piece of cake with vanilla frosting "Like what Murai said, all the demons you've met so far have been in demon form. Usually they just take recently dead bodies, possess them, then change them to resemble their true forms or hide out for a short while as humans. You're the first person I've met that's a live human with two demon's living in a symbiotic relationship."

Yeah, this ain't exactly the popular form of possession Shou.- Taruke said

"So then, how long have you had Gahenna?" Shou asked, slowly lowering the knife.

Fifteen years, right?- Murai said

"That long?" Shou put the knife on the counter, "Why would a demon possess a human for that long?"

That's a very long story that I'd rather not go through right now.- Gahenna said

You screwed up in the possession ritual didn't you?- Taruke asked.

"You've had Gahenna for fifteen years?" Shou asked surprised as Taruke and Gahenna started to argue.

"Yeah. I remember I was playing and then I heard a voice." Nami took a bite of the cake, "I blacked out and when I woke up I could hear Gahenna's voice. It was a few years later before I started to use her power."

"So what's wrong since she screwed up her possesstion?"

I'm permanently stuck with Nami until she dies. That's the only time I can be freed.- Gahenna said annoyed.

"Don't say it like that." Nami said putting her plate in the sink, "We keep each other company, and now we have someone else like us to be friends with."

And just why should we stick with you?- Taruke asked -We've been doing fine by ourselves.

Oh really? So you know who's trying to have you assasinated?- Gahenna asked mockingly, -Cause we do.

How do you know?- Murai asked

Unlike you two I don't have many enemies and keep a steady stream of information coming from the demon world. I've narrowed the list down to the other four Demon Lords.

Are you sure about that Gahenna? We've had peace for the past ten years.

No doubt about it. Only one of the Demon Lords can pay the price of your assasination.

"So one of the most powerful demons is after us?" Shou asked "Why don't they just come over and do the job themselves?"

Cause if they outright kill us then it'll be war all over again.- Taruke answered -An assasination keeps it nice and confidential.

"Okay. Putting aside that fact that a Demon Lord want us dead, why should I trust you?" Shou asked Nami.

"Because we're alike." Nami answered walking up and looking right in Shou's eyes, "I'm the only one who can understand what you're going through, and you're the only person who can understand anything about me. That's what makes us perfect for each other." she leaned up and kissed him, catching Shou by surprise.

And,- Gahenna chimed in when Nami pulled away, -We can help you get stronger.

"How?" Shou asked as Nami looked at the ground and blushed.

By paying a visit to the Blood Market.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Knock, knock. Two knocks were heard and a door opened as detective Saijo stepped into a secret room hidden beneath the Police Headquarters. He had been called in an hour ago and after a rigorous check he was permitted to go in. The first thing he saw in the room was a large TV against the wall opposite him, a large set up of computer on the one to his right, a large pile of books, papers, and video's to the left, and in the middle of the room were two couches, several chairs, and a large table in the very middle.

As he walked in one man wearing thick glasses with short white hair looked up from the computer screens. Two women, who were twins, looked up from the piles of books and papers, one had glasses and the other had her hair tied back, and they both had the same long brown hair and pale red dress suite. The final person to notice him was a rugged looking man at the table in the middle, he had short black hair with signs of grey, a thick but short beard, and tired eyes. The tie to his shirt was undone and hanging loosly around his neck.

"Hello." detective Saijo said walking forward and putting the files he had brought with him on the table, "I'm detective Saijo."

"Wish we could introduce ourselves," the man at the table stood up and shook Saijo's hand, "but we find it safer if you'll just use our codes. I'm One. He's Two." he pointed over at the man at the computer, "They're Three and Four." he pointed over at the twins, everyone had now moved over to the table.

"I know what you're thinking." Two said, "Which one's Three and which one's Four?" he started laughing at his own joke.

"It doesn't matter which one you use." the twin with glasses said, "We'll respond to either one."

"Alright, back to business." One said motioning for everyone to take a seat around the table, "I've been told you've got some important information about Black Coat."

"Yes." Saijo said picking up the top folder and opening it, "I believe this is his first victim." he layed the folder out for everyone to see then opened the second one "And this is his most likely killer, and your most likely suspect for Black Coat." then layed the second folder down for everyone.

"Two, run it." One said handing the folders to Two who jumped over the couch and started typing furiously on the computer, "And now on to other business." One looked right at Saijo, "We know your son died recently." the twins looks sorrowfully at Saijo and Two stopped typing for a second, "Are you sure you want to be working on this case right now?"

"Yes." Saijo said, "As much as I hope I'm wrong, I believe Tatsumi was Black Coat's latest victim."

"Done!" Two called out then walked back from the computers, "I've run both through the data bank and it works out. He is most likely Black Coat's first victim and this kid is most likely Black Coat."

"So, what made you think of them?" One asked as everyone looked at Saijo.

"Shou, lost his parents to the first victim. And even though it's a cold case he was always the most likely suspect to have killed him. And the Black Coat murder's resemble the way the first victim was killed." Saijo said.

"Shou?" One interupted, "You know the suspect personally?"

"Yes, he's . . . my daughter's best friend."

"I'll ask again." One said standing up and walking up to Saijo, "Are you sure you want to work on this case?"

"I'm sure." Saijo said looking into One's eyes with resolve.

"Okay." One extended his hand, "Welcome to the Special Task Force."

"Thank you." Saijo said shaking One's hand. As they shook he looked down at the picture in Shou's open file.

Shou, I hope I'm wrong, about everything, but if you're truely Black Coat, I'll prove it and catch you.

End

Okay, maybe not as good as it could have been but this should fill you up for a little until next time. Lot's of fighting next time, I promise.

I think the third part might be bad. His best friends father is trying to catch him and convict him as a murderer. But all in all it was a good chapter, not great but good.
