yo im anonymous, lets fight for peoples freedom of speech by taking away something that allows them to voice just that
yo were anonymous lets fight for peoples freedom of speech by taking away a service that monetises every little information they give away without permission

Anonymous doesn't seek the end of social networks. They seek an end to them prioritising profit over your privacy. Plus, their targetting of Facebook isn't related to their free speech stuff. They target Facebook because they want a service that does provide for free speech to stop selling people's information without their permission.

oh because they are our valiant protectors fighting for justice!!!!

It just seems like they're doing more harm than good nowadays. Like the PSN hacks, mostly Sony's fault for their shit security, but I don't think we were ever given a reason for that. If Anonymous DID do it, which is likely, it seems like they did it because they could. The facebook thing, given what you said is true, is at least kind of justified, but maybe I'm just hating? Anonymous just leaves a bad taste in my mouth now when I hear them in the news.

Days in advance of the PSN hacks, dozens of Anonymous boards and IRCs were closed or shut off to avoid association with the particular members of Anonymous who did hack the PSN. The hacking of the PSN, and the damage it caused, were not in the interests of the majority of Anonymous, but a faction within them, who were of the much more chaotic type, doing damage for its own sake and because they could.

Consider me enlightened.

The buying and selling of information is Marketing/Sales 101. Targeting Facebook for that is akin to picking out a single whale from the ocean (though Facebook gets to be a blue whale, I guess).

Hacking Facebook doesn't really gain them anything in the long run. A few phone numbers? Maybe. E-mails? Fine. But, since Facebook is a free site, most people don't HAVE to put in sensitive info......(Not that there aren't those stupid enough to, mind you)

Therefore....What would Anon gain?

Regardless of the reasons for their deeds, Anonymous is hacking for the sake of hacking. To put it simply: It's trolling on a global scale.

Therefore, it'll just be for the LULZ.

I dunno what you're talking about, but, no, anon has nothing to do with it because FB hasn't been hacked.
Probably some of your friends clicked some spam and were hacked.

Oh that's probably what it is. Everyone is freaking out about seeing porn and stuff, but I haven't seen any on my wall so I have no idea what they're talking about.

I didn't see porn, but I saw a picture of a fetus and a bloodied dog in my newsfeed. It wasn't pretty :/

Now that you mention it, I saw a news segment about it on GMA. I guess they did go through with the hacking, but on a smaller scale.
