Square Enix France Hints at Kingdom Hearts III

Details

The Square Enix France Facebook page has made two posts recently which mention the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III title for Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. These hints come close to E3, which makes the potential announcement of a Kingdom Hearts 1.5/2.5 HD ReMIX on PS4 all the more likely as this happened with Type-0 HD as well, as well as Kingdom Hearts potentially appearing at the Square Enix conference.

Square Enix recently stated that they will announce several titles at E3. With a year and a half absence from the publics eyes, do you think Kingdom Hearts III counts as one of these titles? What are you hoping to see at E3 this year?

This certainly bodes well. Given how German SE posted that one thing and Unchained X was revealed hours later, I'm thinking there's something sweet on the horizon.

It's always France, too. They hyped about Type-0 and then just a few days later voila. Their social media manager is both a blessing to us plebeians and a curse to themselves because poor person puts their neck out onto the chopping board more than a chicken does.

This is literally just making people who see it remember. Remember who these characters are, remember there's a game coming up that you really want, remember that you can play the previous games leading up to it. This points at the ReMIX's coming to at least PS4, and/or it could be like "go buy this game previous game to learn about stuff because this ones about to get new info".

The Disney Games twitter did the same thing before one of the ReMIX's got announced. They tweeted a picture of Sora, Donald and Goofy and said "Remember them?" or something like that. I'll see if I can find it but it's really old.

I was so excited about knowing Type-0 HD was coming and to tease that on these forums, but then Square France had to just blatantly state it :(

Found the tweet. I remembered incorrectly, it wasn't right before a game announcement but right before E3.
If I remember correctly, KH2.5 had no information on it out after December the previous year, and this tweet was done to bring the game back into people's minds right before E3, where KH2.5 got an English release date, new trailer etc.

And seeing as that's the case, this means that something is going to be announced in terms of the ReMIX's or KH3. So, basically this is just confirmation that there will be something to celebrate soon (probably E3, unless Square does it early like last year) related to KH. So, hooray for that!

France and Germany aren't on as tight of a leash as Europe (when I say this I mean UK) or North America. Because of that, they tend to be a bit more liberal in what information and teases come from them.

Oh there'll have to be file transfer. They did that for FFX/X2, there's no reason for them not to. A KH3 demo would be a bit much unless it'd release in time for Christmas like 2.5 did. That'd mean it'd be pretty solid for a late 2016 release date hopefully. Probably the same situation for FFXV honestly

FFXV is most likely going to be a early/summer 2016 release given that they said the game was 60% done when they released Episode Duscae.

I'm sure that, should we get the remasters on PS4, there will be a file transfer option. They clearly know how to do it, since it worked for FFX HD, so they have no reason to not implement it for KH as well.

Imagine Kingdom Hearts III in time for the holidays next year. Ooh the feels. I'm thinking then or March 2017. Reminiscent of the previous releases during March.

It would very well limit sales of the PS4 version most likely, should they stupidly opt not to have a file transfer option.

Final Fantasy X|X-2 already had the option in it due to the PS3/Vita transfers. If they hadn't added that option in, I doubt they would have let us transfer the save data.

Yes. I believe KINGDOM HEARTS III counts as one of those titles. Even if it's a brief teaser trailer, it'll definitely be making an appearance this next June 16th on SE's e3 presentation.
In terms of other games, I am hoping to see a plethora of projects getting announced:
FINAL FANTASY X-3
The World Ends With You 2/3DS Remake
FINAL FANTASY V/VI 3DS Remake
Legend of Mana
Seiken Densetsu
FINAL FANTASY Agito+
KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ[chi]
KH 3D Dream. Drop. Distance. HD ReMix

By the way, non-SE related: I expect SONY to announce the PlayStation 4 Slim and/or a PS4 price cut.

I believe the ReMixes are to be the last iteration of KHs I & II. Meanwhile, if KH3D DDD is ever re-released, it might feature Final Mix-esque bonuses, but will be called KINGDOM HEARTS 3D Dream. Drop. Distance. HD ReMix

That would be four KH related news! :O And they'll definitely talk about Unchained χ[chi], June is close to original PC chi's second anniversary.

From Nintendo I am expecting:

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
Starfox Wii U
The Legend of Zelda Wii U

Edit:

I am also expecting more information regarding Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, seeing as how it already has a slated release date for the North-American region: this Winter.

Even so, I still think it'd be foolish for them not to include it. The recent Borderlands Handsome Collection had this feature, it's trend I think these current gen remasters need to incorporate if this remastering trend is going to continue (I personally hope it stops relatively soon though)

I still laugh at that. They even tricked me into thinking they were actually doing it, and I don't even want that damn remake everyone seems to be craving for. Definitely one of the most memorable E3 events ever. It's the perfect example of the public wanting something so completely unnecessary and just being thrown the middlefinger. In a time arguably over-saturated with reboots/remakes and sequels/franchise-building, that was a glorious move to me.

With that said: I'm excited for E3. Not really for Kingdom Hearts specifically, but I think it's obvious we'll get at least some KH-related news.

Nobody said you had to.

But to answer your question, yes I will. Zero hesitation from me, especially if they fix the glitches and dumb trophy stuff present in the collections (i.e. audio going out in KH1, making trophies stack, Xemnas in KH2, save file glitches in BBS, trophy glitches in BBS, world difficulty/EXP gain not increasing post-game due to save file glitch, essentially every glitch in BBS, etc.) and maybe give us the option to switch between the original OST and the remastered one.

Those sure are a lot of issues, I'll buy again, if only due to my lack of ps4 games and I'm sure my favorite kh game will also be included but if not, it'll be worth the custom soundtracks to rock sia and imagine dragons while I kill shit, and I never did finish 1.5 either (to be fair I haven't watched coded cinematics in 2.5 but that isn't really a game).

I would much prefer one collection on the PS4, and I haven't even touched my PS3 remixes. My PS3 is one of the older models, and I fear for it's impending doom. It's such now that leaving it on for mere minutes causes the fan to whir loudly, and it receives proper care / is stored in a good location. In any case, a more refined product is always appreciated. If they fixed the aforementioned bugs, they would easily get my purchase.

Well some games, I suppose you're right, but kingdom hearts is the perfect franchise to have such a feature considering the sheer number of playthroughs and unlockable content, it would be a shame to leave all my progress behind, I rarely touch the ps3 and but I love the 4, and would probably play it often for the hell of it when I'm bored every now and then. And on that note, it would be swell if they added minor multiplayer to mirage arena mode, whether local or using remote play but I honestly don't expect that.

I will. By the time 2.5 had come out, I hadn't played my PS3 in ages and was well into the PS4's library of games. Not to mention I prefer the feel of the Dualshock 4 and going backwards to the 3 was uncomfortable.

I plan on buying the PS4 remasters day one, regardless of DDD's inclusion, if they're made. Having platinumed the entirety of both 1.5 and 2.5, I've done all there is to do with my PS3 copies, so I can just have fun with the PS4 ones whilst enjoying the fresh coat of paint/framerate that the PS4 will give the games, in addition to any bug fixes.

Unless it's a super special edition with a flat rate for all 6 (or 7, DDD would help) titles than probably not immediately. I didn't have a problem with the trophies and the only bug I saw was the delay using drive forms on the PS3. Also its not a given that the next gen remixes will necessarily fix these bugs or prevent new ones. My main interests would be extra content. If multiplayer MA and DDD is added the package then I'd be in day 1. If they aren't included then hopefully I'll be playing unchained and a few other games I've had my eye on and pick up the remixes when the price drops. Also hope they don't delay KH3 because of the remixes either.

Well, actually this should be fixed on the PS4 version.
When you first put the game into your PS4 or you download it, it is installed fully onto your PS4 and thus when you're playing the game it doesn't have to read the information from the disk. This means load times between cutscenes and worlds would be reduced, and the delay when activating Drive Forms and D-Links would be virtually non-existent.

Good, cause there were multiple times that the massive Drive Form delay caused some annoying missed opportunities, timing-wise. Like reaction commands and such.

Not only would the PS4 version have reduced load times, but like with the Final Fantasy X+X-2 remaster, it will most likely include the original soundtrack. While I actually really like the reorchestrated tracks, it's nice to have the option and I know a lot of people who prefer the original music. This would also give them a chance to fix the "music bug" in 1.5 that some people had. I didn't have it, but for some people the music kept cutting off.

If they add some more changes, like add in a few more scenes to the Days movie and include DDD, it may actually be worth a purchase.

I know it's most likely going to be 1.5+2.5+DDD collection on PS4/Xbone but I also have a strange feeling it won't be that. I mean, I kind of doubt it and all signs are clearing pointing to it (This article and the 2.5 end credits scenes including DDD and KH3).

But I also have a weird feeling that it won't be that and it'll be something totally out of left field... Ooooooor, what if it is that but its done like the Master Chief Collection where all the games graphics are redone with PS4 graphics. All the games. O_O... Ok, that won't happen but a guy can dream right?

No time to do that while making KH3 and not worth the money spent when people aren't going to buy into it. This franchise doesn't make Halo money as much as we all wish it did and it is already experiencing severe series fatigue.

Which is truly unfortunate. The series has its problems but so does Halo. But Halo has been a lot more consistent and easier to follow then KH, so that makes sense. And it doesn't help that all the games were put on handhelds instead of console, which would've made the series at least a lot more relevant to gamers (if the story doesn't turn them off). I still believe KH is the kind of series can only appeal to certain people and even some of those people who like/love tend to criticize it more then enjoy it. But who knows? KH3 might be the turning point of the series. All we can do is wait.

Good, cause there were multiple times that the massive Drive Form delay caused some annoying missed opportunities, timing-wise. Like reaction commands and such.

If you pause the game quick then unpause, it bypasses that wait time. On a speed run I saw the load times added roughly an hour compared to the original time on PS2. It's really bad

Hence, the PS4 versions, will be the PS3 games, with even better graphics, and PS2 era load times all at the same time. Totally worth the money. Getting that definitive KH experience.

Just to clarify I'm not upset with the idea of ReMixes on the PS4, I'm upset that it took this long to decide how to release them. For instance if they waited and exclusively released them on the PS4 or on the PS3 and PS4 simultaneously I would've been inclined to buy the PS4 versions. However SE released them on the PS3 just when the PS4 was in it's early years without any hint towards a PS4 release. So now that everyone has bought their PS3 copies, SE is hinting potential PS4 ReMixes. It just seems like SE planned this staggered release so that they could increase sales for both consoles. Like I said before I'll probably buy the PS4 copies, but it's the principal of the thing :p

To be fair though, at this stage in the game, the PS3 hardware is much more familiar territory for developers to work with, so going from PS2 to PS3 is a logical leap, especially since every game and their mother has gotten an HD collection since God of War made it a thing. Going straight from PS2 to PS4 might be tricky, since further touching up a PS3 game for PS4 isn't too much work. I see your point, but the formula for HD remasters was already established before the PS4 was revealed. That, and 1.5 was announced a year before we even knew the PS4 existed.

Just to be clear, I want the full collection including DDD and a kh3 demo to have a picture of mickey like the master chief collection and be in a steelbook, title: Kingdom Hearts - The Xehanort Chronicles.

I'm only half-joking, not only would it be funny but mickey mouse's head would make such a title much more marketable, the other edge of the sword being that newcomers would think of the art as bait and switch while longtime fans would be disappointed in sora's lack of exposue due to Disney overlooking him as always.

That does make me wonder. You think they'd release the entire collection in a single game case with 2 discs? Or sell each one separately? If they're on the side of profit, they'll probably release them separately, and also have a bundle thingy that costs as much as buying them together, or maybe even have a thing where you save $10 if you buy the bundle, instead of getting each separately. Like it'd be $40 for each, but the bundle would be $70 or something.

I think they might release both ReMixes together in one package. They released both PS3 remasters separately because of the obvious reason that they weren't created. But with both of them already on the PS3, all they need to do is port it, give it better graphics, better fps, correct the bugs/glitches, and release it together in a package. And besides: how are they gonna sell the two games separately? There was a 12 month difference between both ReMixes. They won't release both of them at the same time and expect fans to buy them both.

Value-wise, that'd be a tempting sell. To have both remasters in one package for $50 or $60, maybe more if they include DDD HD.

Consumers won't pick up a rerelease of 7 games if the price is over the normal retail value of new PS4 titles, especially because they have strange ideas over the value of products. They don't care if they are getting a bunch of games because they only see them as old games and severely undervalue them.

I don't really understand the mentality, but this was the same thought process people had with Type-0 HD. It was an old PSP game, "so why was it being sold at full retail price", not taking in account the amount of work that went into the game to make it less of a PSP game and the fact the game had never been released in the west before. You'll have people thinking the same of a KH collection.

At least at $60 you can say "well each PS3 release is currently $20, and retail copies of KH3D are around $30 so you save $10 on this collection"

Ah yes Dream Drop Distance.... The game was OK but I don't think it deserves it's own release. If SQEX announce a DDD remaster I am hoping they take a page out of the Type-0 book and chuck a KHIII Demo in with it... If it is announced and the price is anything like 1.5 or 2.5 I won't be able to justify it unless it has a demo.

To be fair, it isn't really milking since the games are currently unavailable on PS4 and Xbone, and the HD Remasters are meant to put all the games on the same console as well as primarily bring in a newer generation and audience. And, seeing as how Xbone doesn't have a single KH title on it, the smart thing to do would be to put the entire Remaster collection on it.

Also, I feel the worst thing they can do for KH3 is gove a release date so early, when we haven't really seen much of the game. I wouldn't expect one, nor would I hope for one.

Again, unlike a lot of fans, I love the game more then most people. It's not the best game in the series (that goes to KH2, sorry guys) but it's a lot fun to play. And I hope they go Type-0 with it too. It wouldn't make sense not too but then again, that was Final Fantasy 15 and not KHIII. Final Fantasy has a lot more riding on it then KH3 does. I'm not saying we won't get a demo but special demo like XV? Maybe. I don't doubt it at all, I guess I just don't see the need to bundle it with the remasters.

It needs to because there are PS4 users who sold their PS3s to buy the PS4 and haven't played it in years. There are Xbox users who were interested but never got to play and there are younger users who have PS4s and never got the chance to play it at all. It definitely needs a PS4/Xbox One rerelease. I know people have been waiting a long time and are impatient, however the vast majority of them have only played KH1, KH2, and maybe Re:CoM. Those people will drastically benefit from the rerelease.

Oh no, I didn't mean that. I only meant the KH3 demo. The remasters are happening for those reasons exactly. I'd be surprised if they didn't announce it soon. I just don't really see it being tied a KH3 demo.

Alright, I agree with that. We can dream for a demo though. Like the BBS E3 Demo. It's probably not coming though. Honestly the perfect and most likely scenario is an extended secret video at the end of the KH3D HD.
