Remember that Manga recap that was uploaded to the official Japanese Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX just prior to release of the game in Japan? When it was first released, it was only available in the Japanese language. However it has now been translated and uploaded in English on the official Kingdom Hearts website for all the Western fans to enjoy!

Sadly it doesn't fly all around the comic like the original, but that was just a flashy bonus, so this is still a win (they still get fancy during CoM, so that's neat). The downloaded comic's a lot more readable this way, too, so that's a double win.

Wait a minute...Is that Sora stabbing himself with the Kingdom key? That's an interesting take on that scene Amano.

The art in this is lovely (I love Shiro's work so much) and it's a nice, fun way to recap the games in 1.5. I am REALLY hoping he does this again for 2.5, but I don't know the chances of that unless maybe they're releasing a HD version of DDD and he does it to celebrate that.

I really like the images of Riku leaving Castle Oblivion and both him and Roxas preparing to duel each other in this. Loving this recap and loving Amano's art here.

The more I see of Amano the more I wish for (the admitted utopian) scenario of Amano being added to the scenario writing team in order to improve the narrative and pacing of the story as well as characterization in the games themselves.

I like some of Amano's characterizations but I'm one of those who doesn't like the gag Org members (though it works great for Demyx, and I still get a kick out of (Days manga spoiler) giant Luxord). I think for me the ideal writer would be some third party.

The manga itself is written more on the comedic/silly side of things and thus not canon, but it can't be denied that not only does Amano manage to show off crucial story points much better (and in a way better pacing) than any of the games but he also gets to give many of the otherwise only half-developed or even "bland" characters much more personality and thus makes them more "graspable" than anything the games managed to do so far (exceptions here are of course the usual candidates like Riku, Axel/Lea and Xehanort who also get decent characterization in the games).
One glaring example is Kairi (especially in the KH II Manga) which gets a much better treatment in Amano's KH continuity than in the whole game series so far.

The trouble for me is the CoM manga. CoM is just driven by the Org members, so when you make them a joke, you make the whole product a joke. And that would be fine if the joke was funny, but it's not for me (Days and post-Days KH2 are funny, though). Actually, I was liking the CoM manga more than the KH1 manga, with its intermixing Sora and Riku's stories and the Agrabah segment, but then the plot kicked in.
And while I agree that the central characters have better personalities in KH2 and Days... not in CoM. In fact I'd argue Sora's characterization was outright undermined. It's a bad second impression I've had a lot of trouble shaking. Even the spectacular Days manga hasn't shaken that bad impression, probably because it detonates one of my favourite scenes with another gag Org member.
(That one scene notwithstanding, seriously: everyone read the Days manga.)

I haven't actually gotten a chance to fully look through the recap (I've just skimmed it) so I didn't notice this. I wonder why he did that?

I agree. He adds a lot more dimension to some of the more underdeveloped characters in the games. I mean in the latest Days manga that was released he made me actually root and care about the interactions between Peter Pan and Captain Hook and I never thought that would happen.

Demyx and Luxord are great in the Days manga.
