It has been a massive news day for us all hasn't it? Well, it doesn't stop there because the box art for KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMIX has just been released and it looks gorgeous! Check it out under [READ MORE]
Square Enix Japan has also updated their online product page with the new boxart!
So what are your thoughts on the box art? Glad to see new art? Sad to see that the original promotional art isn't being used?
Update: Message from the Kingdom has updated their blog with the new boxart as well, translated by Zephyr!

Besides, the KH portion shows how happy they are to be friends, Days does the same thing, and CoM shows that Riku and Mickey are lifting out of the darkness and getting away from their past.

Not a fan of flamboyant leg-crossed sassy Sora. Would rather have the smart, kind, and adventurous Sora from KH1. Ah well, quality of the art is great, love Kairi and Riku on this box-art. Can't complain much.

I like it. Originally I imagined a boxart similar to the picture that showed BBS, Coded and Days split off into sections, but with them using the album art so much I expect that to be the boxart. Instead, it's a combination of both!
The new art style is a bit odd though.

I do find the style in which he drew them to be a little off/inconsistent with all the other pieces from the previous games. It looks like a western cartoon portrait rather than a Japanese one (in terms of art style. Its still obviously Japanese art style though). I like the overall design and image, Sora's throne is pimpshit. However, I find Sora to be the worst looking here out of all of them.

[FONT=Verdana]Well, this is a pleasent surprise! Jump on the PC for the first time today, and I’m greeted with new Days screenshots, the news about Jesse McCartney recording, and this lovely boxart! And how lovely it is!
Seriously, I love everything about it! The Days artowrk fits perfectly, and is very painting-esque (and seems to color bleed a bit to me); it reminds me of the art of the trio you get for completing the game, so very nice touch there.
And the CoM part... OMG, what can I say about that? I love it all! Not only because it gives me RikuNami feels -shot- but the idea of Namin[/FONT]

[/FONT][FONT=Verdana] and Riku being in the Darkness, but eventually coming to the Light (Road to Dawn, anyone?) is just too much. And we all know that Mickey said he "wants to walk that road with Riku", so that fits. But I think the Road to Dawn thing fits Namin[/FONT]

[/FONT][FONT=Verdana], too. After all, she and Riku are very similar in that they've made some of the biggest mistakes (out of the heroes, anyway), and want to atone for them desperately. Very nice.
As for the pic with Sora, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy... I like it a lot, actually. Since that image (from the soundtrack) was being used for a lot of the HD Remix stuff, I'm more than happy that Nomura beefed up the original image idea, and gave us this. And Kairi's pose is so spot on (though I am confused about what she's pointing at, tbh); I'm glad it showcases the snarkiness that I've always loved about her. Even though... I feel like Sora and Kairi are Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryening it up in the image, I definitely approve. [/FONT]

Omg, this has been an incredible day. First i find out that the nostalgia critic is returning, second, its confirmed that kh 1.5 is getting released outside of japan, and thirdly, i get to see this beautiful box art. Also, master spockanort was spot on in comparing sora's throne to the iron throne in game of thrones. Is anyone else excited?

I think my only complaint with the boxart is how Goofy is drawn. The proportions of his legs should be much longer as opposed to his upper body.

I know Kairi tends to cross her feet like that but in that position with her waist one way and her face and arm another it just doesn't work. And Goofy's pants don't match up with where his left foot is pointing.
Not crazy about the white space either.
I really want to like this but. :/

I have to admit, I love the idea of the artwork, the idea is stunning, but the way it was done in the end, I'm not so sure anymore. This really looks like it was something a fan drew up on DevianArt or something, so clearly it is done well, just not up to par with Nomura's past coverarts.

I don't know if I would say he beefed it up lol I mean, sure he made the chair more epic (I liked the last one better but that's just from a chair point of view, not the way they are drawn) and the crown make everything more epic, but the style is so cartoonish, it is reminiscent of a Disney-like stlye, except more detailed with the shading, which I guess I do like. I just kind of wish the signature argyle print was somehow incorporated into this :( Can't wait to see the back of the box ^_^ Do I hear VILLAINS?!?!?

Also, one more thing that is awkward with Goofy I find is how he is staring directly at you. I mean, Sora is the centerpiece of this extravagant display, and he has this cool, calm vibe going on with his stare, but Goofy's just all high like "Oh hey ahyuck, pick up my game!!" and I find it funny haha xD

I can see the issues with parts of the cover (Goofy and Sora mostly) but Kairi is just making an awkward pose. It's not as though it's hard to replicate and it's very suited to her.
I'm also happy that we actually got a cover and not just some drawings slapped together (looking at BBSFM - despite how pretty they were individually they did not look good thrown together). And I wouldn't be surprised if it was given some tweaks between now and the games release.

I'm really hoping KH2.5HD Remix's box art will be extremely similar. I love it when game series have box arts that look great together and look like they are part of a set (I'm looking at you FFXIII box arts ^_^) so I can't wait to see TAV drawn like that...I don't remember who said it earlier, and my internet is too slow right now for me to go check, but they were right about this growing on you. At first I really didn't like it, and don't get me wrong, I still agree with Taochan about awkward people everywhere, but maybe I'm just still on that elation of knowing it is coming to NA to not give a crap haha xP

But yeah, as much as I want to really like this the cover is off in a lot of places. I like the new style Nomura is using but it's like he's relearning how to draw in order to use it. There's some parts where I think he improved but then there are other parts that are off. Over all I still like the cover but it needs tweaks here and there.

This is definitely a lot better than what Nomura did for Birth By Sleep and Birth By Sleep Final Mix. It was highly uninspired and while it was gorgeous in bits, it was just too bland. That was one of the few times I loved the CG art they made for it over the actual boxart.
I admit I can see the issues with it, but this definitely isn't his worst by a longshot. Also the checkers are irritating and could have been less in your face but I honestly like it.
If there aren't some fixes done to this by Nomura or Kobayashi, it won't be a terrible issue.

No offense but if you like JRPGs and you bought a 360, that probably wasn't a great decision.
I really like that cover art to be honest. Hopefully it is similar or the same for the Western release.

Yeah, I think we can agree that the problems like in the main portion of the coverart, but the CoM and Days parts look stunning @_@ IDK why the KH1 section got the bad end of the stick haha
Overall, I'd probably put this on the lower half of all the coverarts, but it isn't at the bottom, that's for sure ^_^

Well, for Goofy, look at the end of his pants, where those straps are. They're both facing one direction. So you'd think his feet would be too, but they're spread out almost 180 degrees. Looks funny.

I just... I like all of the expressions! And I find it funny that the most action-y and angled poses (Re:CoM) are drawn better body-position wise than some of the simpler ones.
Sora looked better in his cross-legged sitting position in the KH1 soundtrack artwork imo.

I actually did try the position out before I posted that, because I was wondering how it felt to do. It's really not as straining as it appears though I can't imagine finding myself naturally slipping into it.

I mean cards and white and black squares for CoM and Days are more understandable .. gotta say i love this throne..

I like this boxart. I like it a lot! Sora sitting on the throne like a boss. Kairi playfully poking at his crown. All those keyblades in the throne. Riku and Mickey looking like they're running off toward some adventure. Namine being Namine. Roxas, Axel, and Xion doing their usual thing. The checkered pattern shifting into Castle Oblivion cards. It's AMAZING! *u* I absolutely love the new box art! I can't believe they're putting so much into one disc! It's gonna be so freakin awesome! I love Sora sitting in his throne like a boss, being in the middle of it all! The Keyblades and his crown really pull it together. Mickey, Riku, and Namine all in one corner. Castle Oblivion...so many fond memories. <3

I mean cards and white and black squares for CoM and Days are more understandable .. gotta say i love this throne..
It almost looks like they're sliding off the checkerboard patterns because of its dimensional perspective.

You know, it really is amazing how much they're fitting into one disc, isn't it? I was shocked when I first read that (and really I probably shouldn't have been, but meh), and had meant to bring it up, but forgot. I'm glad that someone else did!
And I have to say, I really dig (like other people have said), the checker part for Days, and especially the "checkered" card part for CoM! This was another thing I meant to mention, but forgot to. LOL. You know, I think the CoM segment might actually be my favorite part here, which is kind of weird, because I don't like CoM as much as some of the others, but it's absolutely brilliant. I like all the thought put into this!
Though, in all honesty, I might just be loving the CoM part in realizing I'm not the only RikuNami fan here. You all are too awesome. I was really starting to think I was the only one (since most people tend to ship RokuNami, and though I do like them, too... they're not my favorite pairing). Riku and Naminé's bond is just so deep and meaningful, and-

Looks to be his style. If not then it could have been Gen Kobayashi, who was trained to be able to mimic his style.
Leaning towards this being Nomura's own work, though.
They probably went with a happier tone since most of the covers have been filled with sad/neutral faces, and perhaps to show this is something to celebrate.

Why do Mickey and Riku jumping like that remind me of the Pocahontas movie when she and John Smith jumped through the grass during a song?
Sora's total sassy on that throne, where the backrest looks like they took a bunch of the Keyblades from the Keyblade Graveyard and forged them together.
Naminé, Xion, Kairi and Roxas look incredibly cute and Kairi poking Sora's crown is a nice subtle touch.

Anyway, the cover was probably done last minute and could've probably done better but it's still the best HD Remake cover out there, which is often just a lazy collage.

Looks amazing! The only thing that could be different about is that the KH1 part could be the dark one instead of the COM part but it's still awesome nonetheless. I decided to ignore any other stuff and just appreciate this wonderful art.

Well, since the version in the game is Re:CoM, and the Re:CoM packaging in North America featured the dark sky, it makes sense that it would maintain that in this cover.

There might even be another at least "half"-variation, as when Roxas is first led into the throne room in Days (on his first day joining the Organisation) Xemnas is slouching in his throne with the same hand posture like MX, Sora and Noctis. I don't think Xemnas' legs are visible in that cutscene, but still...
This seems to be the standard SE swag-posture when they want to show off characters in a "badass"-pose.
At least they don't do the "Gendo Ikari"-variant, rofl.

It does look pretty nice despite the weird things going on. Just wish they had done a little bit more with the Days and CoM parts to take up a little bit more of that white space. Looking forward to a better cover for 2.5...with Vanitas on it <3

Wow this box art is great, I think it's my favorite so far. It's nice how he mixed the Image we kept seeing into it with the various main characters of the games in the collection.
Namura never disappoints with his art. I really like his style hope there's more within the game. Also I can't wait to see what he cooks up for KH2.5 and KH3
I love how the Keyblades in this picture are the ones you can use in the game.

No, it isn't. It's definitely a lot more rich. I think Days, KH3D, Re:CoM's box, and some of the random key art he's done for the series have shown a lot of improvement from his technique in the early days of KH.

I really do hope 2.5 has a similar boxart as I expressed earlier because it just stays consistent. If the 2 boxarts were vastly different, it would look odd putting them next to each other. So I'm really hoping they stay consistent by probably have KH2 front and center, BbS in one of the corners (they could be sitting starring at the sky in LoD or jumping in the keyblade graveyard) and Re:Coded (I really don't know who they'll put for that besides Mickey, I hope they don't have more than one of each character on it).

This collection is titled "Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix" because it contains KH1 and all the games between it and KH2. Based on that logic, if there was going to be a collection titled "Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix" wouldn't it contain: Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, and Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance? BBS wouldn't be in that because it happened before KH1?

The reason why BBS would be in 2.5 is because there is no where else for it to go and because KHII makes multiple references to BBS. Although it takes place before all the other titles, one would need to have some info and understanding of the other titles in order for BBS to really mean anything.

So... I can't believe you all forgot about Joshua's sassy "leg-crossing sitting" in DDD. He actually probably set the record for it. LOL.
Also, I have to say that I'm really loving the "Disney style" artwork more and more. As I've somewhat been missing the Disney vibe lately, I definitely approve. And actually, it reminds me of that one series of drawings in the KHI Ultimania the one when Sora chokes on the chicken bone, and spits it at Riku after Kairi gave him the Heimlich. I would pay good money to see that scene in the series, tbh. I love the trio moments!
And major kudos to Square for making the throne have all the Keyblades you can get in KHI on it. So clever! Now I wonder just what crazy/cool things they'll do for the II.5 art. Speculate away, friends!
In other news, since I like the new boxart way too much to be healthy, what do you think the chances are they'll release a poster of it everywhere? I would love it if they'd sell them like hotcakes (LOL), but somehow... I really doubt it'll happen. Actually, I think I want it on a shirt! KH shirts are sorely lacking in the games after KHII (I want a VTA one!).
And about BbS being part of II.5, I also think that's the most likely scenario. Granted, they might have been planning to put it in this collection (but didn't have time to get everything done, and just held it off), but... You appreciate BbS better if you play the other games first, since it draws a lot of parallels to them. And tbh, I think KHI is definitely the best starting point for the series, as BbS doesn't explain everything. Plus, Blank Points took place after KHII, so yeah.

-Misc cutscenes filling in the remaining gaps
The .5 in the title is a bit of a giveaway to me.
I can't see them including Dream Drop Distance as a whole playable game. It would just hurt the sales of the 3DS version that's still current by the time the Collection is released.
I also don't see them making an entirely new game for a third collection, instead of making KH3. Therefore I'd say it's more likely that they'll include BBS in the 2.5 remix.

If released late 2014/sometime in 2015 it will be a 2 and a half to 3 year old game. I wouldn't call that "current".

Well it's still on a current system. I don't see the N3DS dieing within the next 3 years. Isn't another point of this collection to get them on a current console? After all most of them are on "dead" consoles.

It's to bring the series onto one console, yes.

Hell we're already seeing 3DS games getting ported (I.E. the recent news of Resident Evil Revelations) I don't see anything implausible about DDD getting ported a year from now.

If Nomura's still stubbornly sticking to the idea of the VsXIII team making KH3 & only a few of the Osaka team are doing the remixes, then the rest of the team must be working on something.

Well I still think it would kind of be too early for a port, but you never know.
While this does make sense I don't see it as reasonable to assume they'll make a new game just to add to a collection older games. It's more likely that they're working on the next game in the series or something entirely different.

Well I gotta say that is one beautiful piece of art, but for me, the KH 1 box art will always hold a special place in my Heart (just cause it was thel first Kh) :smile:

What parts your favourite? Honestly, I love the warmth that the Days section gives off, and the feel of hopelessness and despair from the Re:CoM section. And then it blends in the middle and that's the feeling you get about the original Kingdom Hearts.
Though at times the whole world seems against you, and there seems to be no one you can trust, your friends will always be there to cheer you up.

yeah, the game of thrones influence is pretty clear but this is amazing!
the cool blue color of the RE:COM section is my favorite, but it's excentuated nicely by the black and white of the KHFM section and everybody's smiling faces!

I might be the minority here, but I don't really like the box art. The new art style is fine, but some of the character positions are really bothering me. I mean, WHY are Goofy's feet like that? It looks so awkward.
I would have just been fine with the cover splice of the three games imo.

i'm not really sure why everyone is talking about a new art style when the only thing that has really changed much (as far as i can see) is nomura's coloring is less flat

That's pretty much what I noticed with KH3D's art. His coloring is better. His outlines and style really haven't change much at all though.

You are in the minority, but if you go to the beginning pages of this thread, you'll see a few people (including myself) who were irked by the cover art for one reason or another. Don't even get people started again on the poses lol, Goofy and Kairi are especially awkwardly positioned xD

I also think it makes more sense for him to be there seeing he's a playable in that game. I think it also was meant to be more a reference to the Reverse/Rebirth side of CoM and they couldn't do that without Riku.
By far, one of the best boxarts I've seen on the series!!
I am in love with the top half of it, and I am somewhere in-between with the bottom. I cannot decide how I feel about it. I think Sora looks awesome. I have to agree that Kairi's pose is awkward, but it kind of works. Donald and Goofy look fine. Maybe it is the way they are placed. Overall I like the boxart though.

I didn't like it at first glance because it reminded me of a racing game color (It would be cool to have a racing KH game) But, it's ok to me! I like the whole throne and Sora being King part thought, maybe they should have just left that as it is and have everyone else from in the game stand behind him or beside him like Kairi, Donald and Goofy are doing. Or mabe have the rest of the characters in some glossy silver collage in the background behind Sora and the others.:cool:
