Square Enix has revealed the limited edition bonus for KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue! The game, releasing on January 24th, 2017 in western territories, will offer an exclusive official Disney Collector's pin featuring Mickey and Sora!
Fans will be able to purchase this limited edition for $59.99 from participating retailers and the Square Enix Online Store!
They have also released a new 60-second trailer to reveal this surprise, comprised of clips from the Tokyo Game Show trailer!

I don't get why people on social media keep getting upset over these Limited Editions. This isn't a collector's edition that costs extra money, this is literally a free pin for pre-ordering. It'd be different if this was like the version in Japan with Lea's Keyblade that costs $90, but they're tossing in a free pin for pre-ordering. Considering most of us were probably planning on pre-ordering anyway, it's like hey here ya go have a pin with your game, no additional charge. Yet people complain.
Wait for the CE to be announced, cause we all know it's coming eventually.

I think people just expected something more. The preorder bonus we got for 1.5 was really cool, and a lot of people surely wanted something more akin to that than another pin they have no use for. I'm also in the camp that's a bit disappointed in the pin, more in its design than anything else, but it doesn't affect my opinion of the game nor will it change the fact that I already have it preordered. I'll probably just stick it in a drawer like the last one. It isn't me being upset, but rather just a bit disappointed. They didn't owe us anything, but we could've gotten something cooler.

Same happened with me when I picked up 2.5. As far as I understand, it was a preorder bonus and they sold their leftover stock on store shelves. It happens fairly often with games that have these types of preorder bonuses.

I dunno, probably only the store, but oddly the LE cost €35, while the normal version cost €49,99.

Same on my end. When I saw the tweet notification pop up on my phone and read "Limited Edition", I was super excited until I learned that it was a preorder bonus. It's odd that they've chosen to use this wording. It would have been much clearer if they would have just called it a preorder bonus.
Granted, I don't want to complain about this kind of stuff too much. The choice is just an odd one. I'm still super happy with what we've seen from the game itself.

I believe the limited edition for 2.5 was technically a "day one" edition of the game. Like, a majority of the first run copies were the limited edition so you were more than likely to get that version if you picked up the game day one instead of the standard edition. I could be wrong on that though.
On the topic of this, I love Disney Trading Pins so I personally couldn't be happier with another KH pin. I dunno why people get so upset over a pin being included when its free. Yeah it might not be as great as the artbook for 1.5, but its nothing to get so angry over. Besides, I think its obvious that Square will announce a collectors edition of some kind in the coming weeks like they have for all their "big" JRPG's lately (aside from Dragon Quest Builders, which honestly deserves some kind of LE/CE).

The same happened with me. I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise because I couldn't care less about pins.

I am hoping for a collector edition like 2.5 did. Maybe with that another artbook will come and there a new sketch from Nomura. He did one for 1.5 and 2.5, so I am hopeful that he will do so for 2.8.

Yes if you have the game already pre-ordered, you are guaranteed the pin depending on what retailer it is. It says participating retailers, but I remember pretty much all big name branded stores had the 2.5 limited edition (Best Buy, GameStop, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.). Where did you pre-order? You can probably check the stores' website sometime next week and see if they are offering the pin as a bonus.
As for when a CE might be announced it really all depends. We could see it anytime between now and the game's release date. The 2.5 CE was announced a month before the game came out I believe so its anyone's guess at this point.
I guess they are so confident people will pre-order no matter what huh. From the little understanding of video games I have, pre-order are very important and that's why games offer a lot for you to pre-order. This pin isn't anything noteworthy.

I'm so happy. I missed out on the one for 2.5 because of Square Enix loosing my order so I'm keen to finally collect one in January ^_^

You know, I'm really pleased with HMK's video about this.
So many fans, it seems, are very angry about the limited edition and were ready to jump on the #squarebefair thing again.
But HMK discussed in his video how Square IS being fair in what they're doing (as Japan's only getting a keychain).
And I- Just bless him. It's nice to see some KH fans still have sense (and since he has so many viewers, I'm hoping this will influence a lot of the salty people to calm down).
ANYWAY... Does anyone else think they're not doing much with II.8, because they think if they have a nice limited or collector's edition that people won't buy it?
I ask this because a true LE or CE would probably jack up the price, and I know a lot of people don't want to pay $60.00 for this collection and are backing out of it already (even some KH die-hards). Anything more than that would probably just make that number of people sitting out worse.
Frankly, I'm kind of with them. I'll buy this game, of course (in fact, I'm SO hyped for it; moreso than I am for KHIII, even), but I do think it's a bit overpriced. If it had been two full games with the movie, sure. But one game, a shorter game, and a movie? Meh. I know that 0.2 is our first taste of KHIII and all that, but still.
If there's a CE with 1.5, 2.5, AND 2.8 plus something special, I'm definitely gonna buy. Even if it's just 2.8 with something awesome included (a plush that isn't Chirithy because I already bought his expensive butt) I'm gonna buy it.

I know people are bothered by the $60 price tag, but I'm pretty sure at this point they aren't going to lower the price. Japan is just getting Lea's red keyblade, I suppose some fans may value one over the other. I'm not particularly picky, and KH merch is appreciated because it feels like they're so little of it. Maybe it's best the wait until the price drops, but then you're at a disadvantage spoiler wise. Kind of a rock and a hard place.

Mmm, not always. A few days after 2.5 came out, I went to target to get one and they only had the limited edition stocked. So.

Yep, so you have the regular game that comes without they pin, which is the picture at the front.

The 1.5 art book is one of my favorite free preorder bonuses ever honestly. I would love to see more stuff like that instead of what most games offer as a bonus in general, but I'm sure it's time consuming and certainly more costly.

Yeah you're probably right to an extent. I think the pins have the potential to draw in maybe a handful of more sales from the more casual crowd of primarily Disney fans, as being able to get an exclusive pin for a game that has your mild interest could be enough to tip some pin collectors over. The art book caters to the more hardcore fans, many of whom would have preordered regardless.
I actually like the pin more I think, I guess I wasn't super impressed with the "art book" in that yeah since it was free it was rather barebones and full of stuff I had seen for 12 years already lol. I appreciate the pin because, as it was already mentioned, it kind of gives a wink and nudge to the Disney side of the series still. And since its an actual collector's pin that makes it cooler to me. I only have a few from the actual parks but I like all the ones I have, so I guess I'm kind of biased?
I would like an art book for 2.8 more if it had new stuff for 0.2 though. And a lot of the Dream Drop concept art was quite nice actually, though I think I have some of it in the guidebook already (only reason I bought it I believe lol).

I completely missed that, but that's so like them. They also announced the movie as "Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover" while it was always only "Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover" in the trailers, logos and Japanese press materials.

Making a pin featuring say, Aqua and Chirithy, or a Foreteller, or Ephemer and Skuld would certainly be unique and more desirable for actual KH fans, but certainly not for the more casual crowd as it would result only in figurative question marks above people's heads.

While that's definitely true that both Mickey and Sora are more popular than any other original Kingdom Hearts character, from what the Square Enix staff were discussing at NYCC, Disney just won't approve any other characters beyond SDGM.
Ever piece of art turned into a Disney Trading Pin has to be meticulously approved, so many Disney pins re-use art since getting new art approved is difficulty I'm told. I guess since this is the DDD boxart, it was easier to be approved than Chirity or Aqua art, which would most likely have to be original.
Most Disney Collectible Pins are like that.
