No, no. Kairi and now especially Naminè are on a different level. To be fair I think he generally doesn't like females shipped with " Getting The Love and Attention she deserves in canon", potential exception being Aqua.
Kairi only got saved because fans finally complained after the atrocious handling of her character in III. And it's not like Nomura isn't aware that Naminè is the castaway on a meta level. He knows, and yet did nothing to fix that issue other than an optional dead star. Had her coming in at the very end only to be involved in some Riku Replica stuff that suddenly matters to her because Nomura got a boner for another male character on an arc that's apart from everyone else. Nevermind the fact that she has other connections that were more prominent and built up on to resolve.
It's just amazing to like know that it was right there, the chance for Kairi to develop into her own character that isn't about Sora was right there, and he simply dropped the ball via having her killed off to give Sora "angst" and having him go save her because he wuvs her so much.Yeah, the Kairi wants to save Naminé is probably the plotline they dropped that I was most saddened by. Kairi finally had a goal in mind that didn't involve Sora and it was ignored.
I honestly want those two to become close like sisters, feel they could both benefit from each other. I guess Naminé and Kairi would be a pairing I'd friend-Ship.
Kairi/Naminè need more. It was nice how in the little we saw of them interact in II, Naminè followed Kairi's lead in raising her fists to fight off Saïx. Meaning Kairi can be a great influence on her being more assertive [and reckless...]. Not that Naminè wasn't on that path already but it helps having a role model.
