Re: twilight hate instigation thread
i love twilight. i read most of the books within a week or so and fell in love with the story immediately. the lengths edward and bella would go for each other are adorably idealistic, like a fairytale.
Being a stalker isn't really romantic. (And I'm going by the movie since I do not for the life of me remember the books.) Like when Edward is all like "I feel very protective of you" and doesn't even really know her. :/ Or the way he stares at her, follows her, etc. And the fact that Bella isn't really creeped out by this until she learns he's a "vampire" is just so dumb. It's like she doesn't care she's being stalked because some "hot" guy is the one doing it. Fairy tales are better than that seeing as how the guy doesn't stalk them but only meets them and somehow falls in love with them. Not saying I'm a fan of that, but it's better than stalking and creeping around.
"OH NOES HE SPARKLES WHAT THAT IS SO GAY REAL VAMPIRES DON'T DO THAT" -- shut the fuck up.
it's fiction.
And even so, she could have done something, oh I dunno, better. I mean, sparkle vampires? Really? She could have given them a horrendous transformation into big, gigantic vampire-like monsters in the sun, and that would have been better. Or do the traditional stuff. I'm all for going against the stereotypes, but when you do it and come up with something like "Oh hey they sparkle and nothing else, tee hee." it's just dumb.
so many people critique it through character flaws, like edward's over-protectiveness and obsession, when this is only something that makes it more realistic and a wonderful element of fiction.
It does make it more realistic I guess since stalking happens in real life and you rarely see that in good love stories, but for obsessive stalker attitude is not a good thing, and it definitely is not a wonderful element. It sounds like something you'd get from those really bad books that are like pornography but in literature.
meyer lets the reader feel everything bella feels, the frustration, self-consciousness, and devotion; and if you find that strange or stupid, frankly, i don't think you've ever been in love.
And yet Bella acts so dumb. She doesn't freak when edward gets all obsessive, yet she does get all like "leave me alone" or an actual realistic statement. I mean, would you like it if someone was doing everything Edward did to you? I'd say that would be quite strange for you to like it. I just don't like her character at all because she's so co-dependent. If you can show me when she isn't co-dependent and actually does something useful, then I'll give you credit for that. But I have yet to see her do anything useful.
it's junk food lit to me, guilty pleasure, and there's a disturbing amount of people who feel the same way but fake that they hate it to blend in with the crowd.
See, that's what I hate. I get that some people like badly written teen vampire books, but when they say they hate it when they clearly like it is what bugs me. If you like it, then just say you like it.
