There are several movies i'd watch over Twilight but Twilight still isn't the worst movie ever made like some people on the forums tend to think. Harry Potter, The Vampire Diaries if you're looking for a vampire show, or The Mummy were good in my opinion.

I dont like Twilight but i aint one of those that parades around saying "TWILIGHT FUCKING SUCKS"
I grew up with the classic vampire films so I will always like them more

Still, it's fiction. After hearing the same thing for ages now, i'm sure Meyer just wanted to try and bring out something different and new, it's fantasy, it's her books.

but this is different the vampire burns in sunlight is like a legend already
its like making a movie based on the jesus but they made jesus into a emo rocker that is the rebel of his high school
that wont work unless for comedy affects
so in my way I see twilight as a comedy disguised as a romance

Also notice how the majority of the fans are girls

Read all the books, had an obsessed shpeal before the craze started and got over it because I found better books and movies to spend my time on. Around the same time, Mortal Instruments came out, and they're FAR better than Twilight yet they got very little attention. They're not completely horrible, but they're definitely not a masterpiece. If you want to read something by Meyer, the Host is where I'd start.

and he fully recognizes this, because that's what he is, the perfect predator, and he views it as his own flaw. he acts just like any guy would if they were turned into a monster and torn between the girl he loves and keeping her safe.
if i looked like robert pattinson and was an immortal vampire that never aged, i wouldn't even consider love. nor would i be living in a bumfuck town.
you ask any guy what they would do if they were a vampire and i'm willing to bet pulling an edward cullen would rank five place below "staking myself in the heart".
i don't care that edward cullen exists, but i do think it's an inaccurate depiction.

could you at least read the book before commenting, stooge? :I
no, because romance is not my type of book. neither is teen angst. give me selfless hero and introspective journey any day.

Stephenie Meyer is an incredibly good business woman. Atom is incredibly good at seeing $$$. Which I find quite admirable, especially if you're going to make millions off it. Still doesn't change the fact that I think Meyer is a bad writer.

Re: twilight hate instigation thread

i love twilight. i read most of the books within a week or so and fell in love with the story immediately. the lengths edward and bella would go for each other are adorably idealistic, like a fairytale.

Being a stalker isn't really romantic. (And I'm going by the movie since I do not for the life of me remember the books.) Like when Edward is all like "I feel very protective of you" and doesn't even really know her. :/ Or the way he stares at her, follows her, etc. And the fact that Bella isn't really creeped out by this until she learns he's a "vampire" is just so dumb. It's like she doesn't care she's being stalked because some "hot" guy is the one doing it. Fairy tales are better than that seeing as how the guy doesn't stalk them but only meets them and somehow falls in love with them. Not saying I'm a fan of that, but it's better than stalking and creeping around.

"OH NOES HE SPARKLES WHAT THAT IS SO GAY REAL VAMPIRES DON'T DO THAT" -- shut the fuck up.

it's fiction.

And even so, she could have done something, oh I dunno, better. I mean, sparkle vampires? Really? She could have given them a horrendous transformation into big, gigantic vampire-like monsters in the sun, and that would have been better. Or do the traditional stuff. I'm all for going against the stereotypes, but when you do it and come up with something like "Oh hey they sparkle and nothing else, tee hee." it's just dumb.

so many people critique it through character flaws, like edward's over-protectiveness and obsession, when this is only something that makes it more realistic and a wonderful element of fiction.

It does make it more realistic I guess since stalking happens in real life and you rarely see that in good love stories, but for obsessive stalker attitude is not a good thing, and it definitely is not a wonderful element. It sounds like something you'd get from those really bad books that are like pornography but in literature.

meyer lets the reader feel everything bella feels, the frustration, self-consciousness, and devotion; and if you find that strange or stupid, frankly, i don't think you've ever been in love.

And yet Bella acts so dumb. She doesn't freak when edward gets all obsessive, yet she does get all like "leave me alone" or an actual realistic statement. I mean, would you like it if someone was doing everything Edward did to you? I'd say that would be quite strange for you to like it. I just don't like her character at all because she's so co-dependent. If you can show me when she isn't co-dependent and actually does something useful, then I'll give you credit for that. But I have yet to see her do anything useful.

it's junk food lit to me, guilty pleasure, and there's a disturbing amount of people who feel the same way but fake that they hate it to blend in with the crowd.

See, that's what I hate. I get that some people like badly written teen vampire books, but when they say they hate it when they clearly like it is what bugs me. If you like it, then just say you like it.

Aren't you contradicting yourself? You say it is realistic, but then say that is how a guy thinks when an unrealistic thing happens. Nothing in this book is realistic. It is as you say- fiction. Its bad fiction too. Nothing in it makes sense.

The books in my opinion were mediocre at best, but they had some decent qualities.

The movies are what I liked. Twilight was pretty gay (low budget)
But I thought New Moon had some kick ass moments.
But there's still a lot of better things out there.

So imo, Twilight is okay but to hyped.

not an unrealistic [as in, psychologically normal] thing, a fantasy. that's what makes it what it is, it's an exploration of how two realistic teenagers would react when faced with a supernatural conflict.

But you are assuming a reaction to an unrealistic situation. You can't say that a guy will be all cliche and want to protect the girl. Meyer doesn't kno0w how teens think at all.

this is what fiction is.

she isn't, it's just a story.

tbh i don't care what you guys think about twilight, but some of the reasons given for disliking it are complete bullshit.

Elle, you are confusing me. You say it is fiction but say the characters are realistic. Bella and Edward are far from what teenagers are like. Bella is just mentally unstable and Edward is this monotonous emotionless freak. Really, there is nothing attractive about Edward. I still don't see why girls get wet over him.

fiction can have realistic characters, sarah. lol.

i just find all of this so stupid because people can't exercise different perspectives in regards to the fact that they're in love.

I've definitely exercised different perspectives to their love/relationship and to be honest it's easily reused from various other stories that create a loving bond between Vampire and Human. First there is a boundary that separates the two, and committing a relationship expresses a sense of forbidden love. Then adding love as an excuse to be completely protective with supernatural powers while dealing with conflicts out of the ordinary prove to make a compelling story. It truly skewers the idea of Vampire history by adding teenage drama to compel to a younger audience, which is okay.....but if we look back into the real identity of vampires it was always a situation of wooing someone into a death trap of blood sucking goodness. Perhaps you should watch, or better yet read Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, since it appeals a more sensual touch of young ADULTS who have reached a mature state past teenage angst and into conflicts that would pose a problem identifiable to real LIFE situations (at least the background of the story anyway). Twilight isn't my cup of tea, but certain aspects of the story have gained my interest mainly through the conflicts. I definitely don't like it as much as my Sister or Mother :/
