I think a friend of mine has to wear headgear at night. Idk
But i'm a regular at the orthodontist - i have been since 4th grade. I'm a sophmore now.
First, i had to wear the little rubber bands. Then, i wore a retainer (the kind w/out the wires in it). Then, i had a pallet expander (if anyone else had/has one - i feel your pain). Then, i wore some more bands for a short time. Then, i got braces. Now, i have a retainer w/ wires in it that help keep it in place, and a small wire on my 2 front bottom teeth that's glued in place (it's towards the inside of my mouth so no one sees it, & i sometimes forget it's there cuase it doesn't hurt or anything). I wear this retainer for a few more months, and then i wear it at night for as long as i want my teeth to be straight (so i'll be wearing it for the rest of my life), & i wear that little wire on my 2 front lower teeth for a few more years.
Shockingly, the orthodontist experience hasn't been so bad for me.
But i do completely understand pain from braces. Here's some things that i did to help get rid of the pain:
Eat ice cream
After getting your wires changed or getting new bands on your braces, eat soft foods until your teeth stop hurting (mine hurt like crazy when i tried to chew anything after getting my braces worked on)
take tylenol(sp?) or ibuprofen as soon as the pain gets bad
I know it's not a lot, but it's something. Hope it helps. (i know it's already been suggested to eat ice cream, but i put it in here anyway.)
