A brilliant programmer whose legacy was stolen from him and thus he retreated into a digital world where he became a recluse and a fugitive. 

Kevin originally worked for ENCOM, a company that stole his gameing creations, but upon discovering the world inside its dataspaces, Kevin recaptured his program and his legacy - only to be trapped in the Grid by a program of his own creation, inadvertantly abandoning his son, Sam, in the physical realm for over 20 years. 

Sam finds his way into the Grid, and searches the realm for his father, who hetries to convince to rejoin him in the real world. Kevin fears being capture by his program doppleganger, CLU - who has become obsessed with the concept of perfection and seeks to eradicate all imperfections from the digital world and eventually the physical one as well. Kevin knows that if CLU is able to take Kevin's data disc, he'll be able to crossover into the physical realm.

Once Sam convinces his father to return home, they set off in search of the portal. In Sora's reality, Sam, Kevin and Kevin's apprentice Quorra encounter Sora enroute to the open portal, and Sam and his father head to a ship while Quorra and Sora leave to see if they can save a re-programmed Tron. 

In Riku's reality, Sam, Kevin and Quorra escape a tussle with the enemy, only to learn that Kevin Flynn's identity disc has been stolen by CLU.  This is when Flynn reveals that Quorra is so much more than a program, and that she is the last of ISO, a new existence that came into bein in the digital world.  The group makes a run for the open portal, and Quorra allows herself to be capture to buy them some time. Riku covers the group from a Dream Eater attack as Sam and Quorra escape the chaos and make their way for the portal. It's then that CLU realizes that Quorra has escaped with Kevin Flynn's identity disk and can therefore emerge as a real person in the outside world. Furious, he tries to stop them, but Kevin sacrifices himself just the portal closes, taking Sam and Quorra to safety. Kevin's final words scorn CLU for failing to the perfection in the imperfect world before him.

Realizing that obsession can cause you to bring out the worst in onesself, Riku comes to understand that anyone is capable of losing themselves to the Darkness but that doesn't mean they can't be redeemed. Once the portal is closed, Riku and Sora release the Grid from its slumber.
