Every realm (at least 2, or if I am right 3) has a respective keyblade, the wielder nor the realm determines how the keyblade is used, for darkness, light, twilight or nothingness. Mickey being a great example.

Yeah, keyblades aren't comprised of souls, though they do have wills of their own.

Maybe VAT's Keyblades are the realm's keyblades, passing them on to another or returning them to their respective realm.

OH here are my thoughts on the matter

My 1st idea was that the keyblade is an extension of the heart or a heart..

Hmm i think it's an extention because of riku's soul eater

I was under the assumption that maleficent gave it to him
but she formed it out of the darkness in rikus heart
(but I forgot where I got that from so I could be wrong)

here's a way it may be plausible suppose the
kingdom key was actually formed from the dream sword..

Well the dream sword is found at the awakening
(which could be the initiation of the heart extending tward or to a keyblade
and at that point the keyblade either accepts or rejects the wieilder)

If riku's awakening was tainted by darkness
then his dream sword could be twisted to look like the soul eater
an Maleficent just drew the SE from him in someway

Another idea is that the keyblades are pieces of the worlds heart

Which could explain why the resemble
the area from which they originated

I thinks might be possible due to how the POH keyblade was made
(not so much as the exact way it was made
but the concept of how it was made using hearts)

So I keyblade could be made using hearts
then cetainly a keyblade made from a piece of a worlds heart is plausible
