On Mickey stuff, the problem with the entire gauntlet section is nothing really happens until Sora gets in. It is clear from their expressions that Luxord, Marluxia, and Larxene were not really trying or not trying that hard. It is a common Shounen thing where multiple fights happen at once, but since the story has to moved from one event to another to keep focus, certain fights just does not really start until the focus is theirs. Sometimes, this lasts for chapters. To say that someone holds themselves against someone for that long is a feat would not really be accurate per say

How do you ascertain a character’s fighting prowess based on their expressions? And what kind of mental gymnastics do you employ to have that override the simple fact that Marluxia, Luxord & Larxene were all attacking Mickey at the same time — which in normal terms, means that they were absolutely trying their hardest otherwise they would’ve just took turns to play with him.

To say he held his own for that long would in fact be accurate because that is, by definition, what he did.

For Aqua to have poor treatment, and that actually be problematic; that would imply she had prior treatment that was of the contrary. But it isn’t. There’s a reason why no one gives a shit about Aqua.

That seems to be the consensus there. My speculation is that, in the Universe of KINGDOM HEARTS, life is a cycle where, when you die, your heart is to be reborn as another person. Luxu said he needs Kingdom Hearts' power to "awaken" the MoM. But why? Why would he need a force so powerful as Kingdom Hearts in order to "awaken" someone? And what exactly happened to the MoM that he is "dormant"?

Well, what if Sora's heart is MoM's heart, but reborn? And Luxu needs KH's power in order to do something supernatural: revert the cycle of life. He wants to revert Sora back into the Master of Masters.

Yeah, I'm afraid I have to agree with these assessments.
With the exceptions of Donald, Terra and Roxas everyone looks like they were deliberately portrayed as weak to let Sora take the spotlight alone and it is disappointing from a narrative point of view both when it concerns all these characters being supposed to have their own abilities and strengths and their own problems to take care of (which Mr. Nomura even outright mentions in pre-release interviews) and the general supposed message that they can win against Xehanort only with a team effort, not Sora just running from one place to the next and doing everything himself.

In that light I do find it a little odd that the focus is put always only on the female characters. Characters like Mickey, Goofy, Lea, Ventus and even Riku are looking like deliberately nerfed test versions of themselves too which is equally as annoying as how Aqua's arc was totally butchered, Naminé not being present at all and Kairi's involvement being made look like we're back in the 1970's and 1980's instead of the 2010's. It is a general problem KH III and the "final battle" brings to the table.

Again, I'll readily concede that the writing for nearly all of the characters in this game is very poorly handled across the board, and the game on the whole suffers for it, but that doesn't diminish the necessity to recognize the particular factors which impact the girls and women in this game in ways that don't impact the boys and men, at the very least not to the same extent, if at all, and not least because it is reflective of attitudes surrounding how girls and women ought to be viewed and portrayed throughout fictionalized media and pop culture in general. Heroism within KH3 is reserved solely and specifically for male characters: primarily Sora, yes, but it goes beyond that to the point that nearly any empowered act that actually makes a difference over the course of the narrative stems from the way in which a male character has been positioned to see it through, whether that be Sora saving Anti Aqua from the RoD, or Sora waking Ven and Ven coming to Aqua's rescue after Vanitas knocks her out, or Terra's Lingering Will stepping in to take care of Terranort when Aqua does nothing to protect Ven from him, or Lea stepping in to rescue Kairi when Terranort targets her and then Sora rushing over to rescue her again immediately after that when she neglects to even summon her Keyblade and try to defend against his assault, or Riku putting his life on the line to keep Sora safe after Aqua just gives up against the Heartless, or Ephemer (not Skuld, or Ava, or Strelitzia) giving Sora a hand with the Keyblades, or Yen Sid rushing down from the heavens to open a path for the GoL to escape, or Riku Replica sacrificing his chance at a body so that Namine can be saved, or Roxas coming onto the scene at just the right moment to stop Xemnas from running Xion through with his lightsaber, or (finally) Sora risking his own life/body/whatever to go find Kairi who was actually straight up murdered for his manpain. The point is that there is a distinct and identifiable treatment of women as second-class to men in KH3, in which their arcs are treated as either disposable or dependent upon the men in the series, such that the one time a female character is shown being remotely useful (when Kairi guides Sora back from the place between The Final World and the Keyblade Graveyard), it's so that he can reward her by telling her, "I feel strong around you, Kairi." Not, "Wow, Kairi, you're invaluable to this group because you bring your own unique strengths and powers and I can't wait to fight together with you against the darkness," but, "Kairi, you're useful because you help me when I need you to, keep doing that." It's all about the framing, and KH3 goes out of its way to give the girls the worst of a bad situation.

Overall, I would agree with most of the poor treatment of Aqua's character from what I've seen so far. But, I'm not sure how this line of criticism is associated with your previous perspectives.

There's no reason to believe he told Terra to "look after" them because he found him to be the superior one of the group, specifically in way of Aqua's title of Master. This is a moment in the context of the familial spectrum of their bond as a trio (+ Master Eraqus), it has nothing to do with demeaning her character, not even indirectly. Understanding this from the apologies he had for Aqua and Ven (which, the apology itself is the recognition of what she has been through as a Master), from Terra being the oldest among them, and also how he's been inside Terra's heart through his internal struggle with Xehanort—it's completely logical as to why he'd sincerely ask this of Terra. I'm not sure why this scene is hard to swallow. Perhaps Eraqus could've thrown in an "Oh, I'm so proud of what you've done Aqua", but such a moment of glorifying her merit as a Keyblade Master doesn't seem to be the point of the scene.

Honestly, out of all the moments for Aqua in this game, this moment with the inclusion of those closest to her heart is a better showing of characterization in the story (at least, from what I've seen so far). It'd be a different source of frustration if this was a moment where Eraqus highlighted Terra as a "true Keyblade Master" or something that deflates what Aqua was, but that isn't the case.

Again, look at the context. Aqua is a full-fledged Keyblade Master who has probably never needed Terra to look after her, but certainly doesn't need that now after everything she's been through. Ven, I can understand, because he's still young and needs guidance, like a younger sibling, but what exactly is Terra going to do for Aqua that she isn't capable of doing for herself? It's not important to me that Eraqus verbally recognize and affirm Aqua's accomplishments, I'm capable of reading between the lines and accepting that sentiment is probably present regardless, but when you refer to this as a "familial bond," you lean perhaps unwittingly into chauvanistic trends rooted in a tradition of suppressing female agency through their positioning as protectorates, wards, "maidenhood": the idea that a younger (or even older) sister no matter how capable and intelligent couldn't be expected to care for herself or carry the kinds of responsibilities as her brothers, or that a wife is subjected to the will and direction of her husband. And yes, I know, this is KH, and it's Disney, and it's all very casual and well-intentioned, but the fact remains that the fundamental message conveyed here is that no matter how effectively Aqua has proven her strength and capability, it still falls on a male counterpart to "look after her" and to do whatever that implies, "for her own good." Eraqus didn't have to say anything like this to Terra, there were plenty of other words that could have been exchanged between them that would have made more sense given the history we've actually seen with them (not the one we infer from the time he spent inside Terra's heart, of which we know nothing about), or he could have asked Terra and Aqua to look after Ven together, or asked all three of them to look after each other. This was deliberately framed to bestow upon Terra the archetypal male role-- present in both Japan and the West-- of provider and "head of the household" and it's not even a little bit subtle about that.

Git gut, Vanitas dropping an Ou Tenkun, Luxu dropping a Ren Gyokuen, the Union Leaders dropping Pandora Hearts, and Sora being possibly MoM's reincarnation and Luxu perhaps want to reverse that is basically dropping a Tasha Godspell but I wonder if anyone will get ALL of these other fiction I mention here despite I want to tall about it all badly. Oh my, that is a misaligned perspective concerning the context of the scene if you believe the fundamental message here is a subtext of "man must protect woman because she is incapable". It's one thing to analyze the application of female characters in a story, but that interpretation for this moment is absolutely ridiculous. If you're going to understand the context of the scene, you need to approach this by grasping the elements within the characterizations of the BBS group that is established in the series. There is a separation of their relationship to one another that you're not paying attention to, which can be understood outside of their standing as fellow Keyblade wielders.

The hypercritical, sexist lens you're using to evaluate this interaction is quite jarring and unnecessary. Concluding that this moment poorly represents Aqua's own standing as an independent woman is not conducive to what is reflected by the group's disposition in this scene. Understand that Terra "looking after" her isn't a means of saying she can't protect herself—this isn't an action that is restricted to those who are incapable of doing it for themselves in the first place. Aqua is a very capable young woman, but there are many ways in which she could be supported by a loved one despite all of her capabilities. Paying heed to a person's well being isn't an ultimate sign of a lack of ability to do so on their own, but rather the inclusion with that caring process. It's an understatement to say you're simply annoyed with certain aspects of KH3's narrative, but you're reaching further than you'd need to for understanding the intention and execution of this specific storytelling motive.

If there is a correlation to be made, it's that of the application of what we can assume would be done in any situation that a figurehead of a household would do—tell the oldest of the remaining to look after the others. This is a reflection of Terra's standing as the oldest of this young group, not of Aqua's capabilities as a Keyblade Master, nor even implying that Terra is the strongest of them all. If Aqua was indeed the oldest, there'd be no reason to believe he wouldn't state the same thing to her either. Her capabilities as a Keyblade Master are irrelevant to the portrayal of ways Terra, as the oldest member now, can support those two outside of training with the Keyblade. It has been well established that they are all bound by a relationship that supersedes that of "Keyblade classmates", in regards to each other as a group. (Though, there is a whole other conversation to address the specific dynamic/history of Terra and Aqua to each other) Either way, that type of evaluation just doesn't fit the narrative. Self-imposing this ideal of male chauvinism simply because the one Eraqus asked this from was a male is hardly supported by anything within the context of the scene or their characterization. It isn't wise to degrade this scene by inserting ridiculous notions such as this when it doesn't support, correspond, or even expand on the characters themselves.

Now, I would agree that Eraqus telling them to take care of each other would've been a more wholesome option. It would have been a good reflection of how the three have been separated all this time, and together, they'd finally be able to be under the same stars once again. But, not having it doesn't necessarily take away from the scene either. Another perspective that has supported merit is that Eraqus reflects this to Terra mainly to make up for his own failure towards the other two, hence the apologies displayed as precedent. He was there for Terra's strife because of his presence in his heart, but for what he left for the other two due to his decisions, he obviously feels regret from his actions and lack of presence to them. I would have to emphasize that even asking this of Terra, who his precense has been with, for what he failed to do for Aqua and Ven isn't a translation of their own lack of self-care capability. There's absolutely no cogent reason to believe it as such. I'm actually more supportive of this angle because it coincides with the flow of this exchange as Eraqus mainly concentrates on his regret towards Aqua and Ven, and how he feels responsible for their hardships.

I don’t think he ultimately has the power over that decision, but if he somehow does, it’ll suck that we’ll all be punished thanks to the actions of these leakers and the companies’ poor security protocols. It wouldn’t have even been in an issue if they hadn’t pushed the release date back so far.

I admit I haven't seen all leaks and spoilers because I haven't been actively looking at them, but how exactly is the impact of i.e. Ventus and Lea getting offed in one swing by Terra-Xehanort not the same extent of Aqua getting one shotted by a Darkness blast from Ansem SoD or Vanitas? It's exactly the same situation where all those characters are used as doormats despite there being knowledge for the audience that they all are capable of doing better?

"Cutscene incompetence" is the trope applying here I think but this isn't sex-coded either.

The scenes in the "labyrinth" aren't any different as everyone is incapable of actually winning until Sora shows up, be it Mickey with Luxord & co, Riku with Ansem SoD and the Replica, Aqua and Ven with Vanitas and Terranort etc.

It's also not Aqua alone who just stands there gawking and doing nothing in the Terra-Xehanort scenes so she isn't to blame for being "useless" alone. Mickey, Goofy, Ventus and even Sora himself also just stand there letting themselves get wrecked while Lea and Riku react only with a considerable delay. The only one reacting correctly is Donald and even he gets a drama-induced delay.

Maybe you have a different view coming from another base but I do not interpret these things as a deliberate decision to make specifically Aqua look bad because she's female, I see it more like a decision made to let look everyone look bad for the sake of a fake high drama scenario that when looking at it in the whole context doesn't even make sense to be there.
If the main point is to have the Lingering Will show up as a great savior they could have made it so from the get-go and without having everyone look like they completely lost their brain.
Aqua already fought Terra-Xehanort and should know how to at least slow him down, Mickey is supposed to be as awesome as Yoda from Star Wars and Ven is supposed to be one of the fastest characters with incredible reflexes yet Terra-Xehanort can take him out with one single blow (which in itself is not wrong since Ven's body is rather fragile because he's a speed-oriented character, but he should have the ability to dodge such a move).
If they have to have this scene where everyone goes down and then need to be revived they could have at least done so without having everyone look like six year olds kindergartners with the reaction time of a turtle.

Does it really matter so much who acts as the liasion between the "Light of the past" (as Eraqus and Ven put it) and the present day heroes? It's a few second cameo scene at best?

Maybe I am just not seeing that there is some special "malevolent" element in the framing that specifically targets only female characters, as most of the examples given also apply to several other characters.
When you look at the scene of Xehanort murdering Kairi for Sora's "manpain" you could say that the scene where Terra-Xehanort wrecks Ven serves the same purpose for Aqua so it's a thing with switched roles.

Ok, I have to admit that the only thing I DO understand about this is the part of Maleficent being the reason some of the Union leaders & Dandelions end up in the future.

So from some fan translations of the latest Famitsu interview, it seems Nomura said that he would be reconsidering worldwide releases for his games from now on thanks to the leaks, at least with physical discs. I don’t think he ultimately has the power over that decision, but if he somehow does, it’ll suck that we’ll all be punished thanks to the actions of these leakers and the companies’ poor security protocols. It wouldn’t have even been in an issue if they hadn’t pushed the release date back so far.

Also, y’all have about two and a half hours to get this thread to 300 pages. I believe in y’all. I wonder if they’ll close this thread once it’s no longer pre-release?

Perhaps that is the better, that also saves the company from the production and shipping budget if they stopped considering physical copy for worldwide.

Because Gula is in Luxu's to revive list, but eh, Strelitzia is killed BEFORE the keyblade war. And another part of of the secret report state Eraqus is descended from the Dandelions. One of the Dandelions, mind you, not specifically an Union Leader. but Young Eraqus does look like Brain somehow. And neither is Strelitzia's killer is Luxu himself because he says " one of them are an impostor, and they are virus to MoM's program"

That scene is just so weird and off it feels like it came from an alternate universe. I still stand by my theory that it was most likely one of the possible Disney interferences the game probably had.

Everyone not really acting like themselves, getting taken down incredibly easily, DONALD DIDDLYING DUCK being the only one who did something by way of pulling a spell outta his ass and one-shotting Terranort as if he was the main character...it's just weird.

Thank god the game itself pretends it never existed a while later.

If Skuld is Star, well, this does not bode well for Isa and/or Lea's love interest since Skuld seems to have a feeling for Ephemera.

Just read the reports and I think it's definitely Skuld. But the reports seem to be stating that Isa and Lea did not even know what she looked like because it was too dark in there? Still, Isa said that he had sacrificed everything to track her down (he doesn't seem to know Xigbar took her) and was angry at Lea abandoning them. If anything, it's just him that has feelings for her and the little star on his new coat seems to be a reference to that. The question is, is she alive? And if yes, what did Xigbar do to her?

If you go further than my “theory of reincarnation” and the fact that Sora is MoM, and Ira is Riku, an interesting parallel arises: With the departure of the Masters of Masters, Ira took the place of the leader, perhaps with the disappearance of Sora, who was a kind of “leader” of the group, Riku will take his place and will be a kind of chief. Damn, he even flies to pick up Namine on the Gammi ship, which belongs to Donald and Goofy, including Sora. What if the main character of future games (spin-off)is Riku who will look for a way to return Sora, and his partner in search of Sora will be Mickey (Disney Element) and possibly Kairi. Maybe I ran off the rails, but I really wonder what you think of such a theory.
Moreover, Nomura, if I am not mistaken, was upset that Riku was inferior in popularity to Roxas, Sora and Axel.
This is a good way to make it more popular.

This actually makes sense why numbers 9-12 of the original Organization were chosen the way they were chosen. Xigbar had this information. Xigbar found Marluxia to boot.

It just sucks for those who need physical copies to play the game because they don’t hve an internet connection. There needs to be some way they can play the game as well.

I’m looking forward to seeing this thread buried, tbh. Lol.
