Steal the cigarrettes maybe? Though then he could get angry.

Now thinking about, silh's suggestion'll definitely hit home. I'm sure the hospital may help, but it may cost a decent amount of money, seeing how you'd be using an ambulance and a room for a fake death.

Whenever he has this feeling to smoke.Ask him or tell him to douse his tongue with hot water to ease the temptation.Least it worked for my friend but I dont know if it will work for your dad

^ snowdog's right, my dad smokes, and I've tried getting him to stop, but I've never tried anything drastic. It's really your dad's desicion to stop. If he doesn't know what it can do to him, tell him.

Roughly calculate his monthly expenditure on cigarettes and multiply by the number of months he's smoked, then tell him that he could've bought something else with his money like a car or an amazing family holiday or something like that...

You could buy an nicoteen patch and put it on him when his asleep...his cravings for a smoke will go..
