(Just so happened to see this thread whilst lurking and had to post)

It seems to me as if people are trying to earn others' respect by posting such influential arists as The Beatles etc .... ¬_¬

It's hard to say who the greatest artist ever is, I can't get away with posting one of my favourite bands from recent years, as .... I don't know ... I feel as if I'll look stupid if I don't post anything before the 80's, I guess.
Never mind.

At the Drive-In, maybe?

If no one agrees I'll say David Bowie or Pink Floyd?

^I know L'Arc-en-Ciel.
They did made some brilliant songs which I adore much.

About the greatest band ever... my interest is too easily distracted until I can't really love or hate something.
For now I'd say The Beatles, LP and Evanessence.

My favs are:

N.E.R.D.
Linken Park
Gorillaz
:]

um. That would most definitely have to be Linkin Park and Dragon Force. duh.

Linkin Park, Evanescence and N.E.R.D are not great bands AT ALL.
Dragonforce and Gorillaz are possibly great bands. But nowhere as good as bands such as The Beatles, Queen, Black Sabbath etc.

Everyone. EVERYONE. Is saying The Beatles, and Queen. It's getting kind of repetitive. Honestly, it would amaze me if half the people that listed those bands listened to them 0.0. Evanescence and N.E.R.D I can do without, but for the past 8 years, I've been a HUGE LP fan. I've been to many concerts and have been a member of LP Underground since 2002. So, I am a huge fan. Dragonforce is a great band. Awesome beyond expectations. Gorillaz are great, too. I haven't listened to them in a long time, though.

PS - I love your username >.<

I didn't list Queen because I don't listen to Queen.

I did list the Beatles, and I do happen to listen to the Beatles.

And I happen to know for a fact that half those people like The Beatles as well.

So don't make assumptions.

L'Arc en Ciel or Kat-Tun.

But no one knows them anyway =/

Anybody who's ever heard of J-pop knows who L'Arc-en-Ciel is. And they are very far off from the greatest band ever. They're not very innovative or inspirational. Very forgettable.

J-Pop is never really inventive. It always has the same kind of singer, the same kind of tempo, the same kind of beat, it's essentially the same song over and over and over.

After sorting through my iTunes library, my own personal, final list is composed of the following.

1.Radiohead
2.The Pixies
3.U2
4.Nirvana
5.The Beatles
6.Red Hot Chili Peppers
7.Bob Marley
8.The Sex Pistols
9.Damon Alburn (Gorillaz, Blur, The Good, The Bad, & The Queen plus others)
10.The Specials

You may not agree with it, but whatever. This is my list.

That's hard. I think that bands back then were considered to be one of the best bands ever. I think modern bands aren't there yet. So i guess oldie bands would cut for it :) I think one of them would be ACDC, The Beatles, and so on.

I'm surprised no one has listed Rush.

I agree with Queen and Nirvana though (not the greatest, but very influential.) I don't listen to the Beatles.

Linkin Park is such crap. Same for Cute is What We Aim For.

I'll have to add The Mars Volta to my list. Love them.

The influence of artists such as Tom jones, Aretha Franklin and Tupac need to be highlighted...

Thrice are my favourite, but i was never one to gauge what the actual greatest is...

eh, radiohead.

As you should know by now, Ray, I have an almost unhealthy obsession with Radiohead.

So, uh, don't take Radiohead as my number one all that seriously, lol.
