Sliding faster than ever in his life, 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili had one turn left in his final Olympic training run. Flirting with 90 mph on a $100 million track pushing speed to the outer limits, the luger from the republic of Georgia tilted his head slightly forward as his sled climbed the high-banked wall.

This definitely is a tragedy. Looking at the pictures just shocked me. I could never imagine hitting a pole at 90 mph and this is right before the game are about to start. My prayers go out to this guy and the Georgian team.

Yeah, I heard about it. It's crazy. They say the track is too fast. I just hope no one else gets killed. The last thing we need is for the Winter Olympic death toll to go up by one or even double. (It was only three before this one, with the last one being in '92.) By double, I mean go up two more to six, not eight.

This!!! Seriously, I saw this on the news. As they were talking about it, they were looping the clip over and over and over again. I was shouting, "Show some decency!"

Anyway, is is quite tragic, and I have never expected that any deaths would happen at the Olympics...

I'm not sure. I think we lost another celeb earlier. Also, Phil Harris (from the reality show of the Discovery Channel "Deadliest Catch") recently passed away and I'm not sure if his death was before or after this. However, I'm pretty sure there was a death or two in January.

Anyhow, an update on the story says that the cause of the crash was not the track, but Human Error. Even still, they raised the walls in a section or two.

It's a "tragic" death that has no actual gore and is actually on film clearly. I mean, it's disturbing since you know the guy's dying, but all you end up with is a limp, safe-for-TV body. They're going to milk it.

That makes no sense. I don't recall them showing Dale Earnhardt's fatal crash repeatedly on the nightly news or that drag racer that got killed a year or two ago. Is it just non-American/ non-wealthy Americans that get this (dis)honor.. or until the family threatens to sue their asses?

I was so shocked when I heard about this. I have always thought that luge sport is dangerous, and now it seems like it even more.

i heard about it on yahoo.. but the whole "the olympic intro was completely dedicated to george" is BS.

they did not create that entire opening and buy all that stuff and arrange it all beautifully in the same day the guy died!!
