I just want Square to tell us, 100%, for sure, no bullshit, what these guys are talking about.

'Cause there's no way KHIII is that close, but also these are people who would actually be working on the game.

It sure is nice to be increasingly swallowed by the pool of confusion and uncertainty all the Kingdom Hearts games seem to bring.

I'm leaning towards Steve going in for some Final Fantasy VII Remake (and expecting part one's release date to drop as well so work on that will continue for him) but he did respond to "Kingdom Hearts 3" specifically.

This is unprecedented, but there's NO WAY KHIII is ready for localization. The only thing I can think of is 1: they're doing promo voicework, since we know that they've done that for KHIII anyway with the Xehanort and Eraqus dialogue.

or, perhaps, they've taken a different approach altogether with voice acting this time and they're doing to do it simultaneously as they go. The series is in desperate need of switching up the way they do the voice acting.

To me it looks more like Burton is being cheeky, giving an answer without really giving a definite one and thus breaking any possible non-disclosure contracts.

He says he'll be doing "something" in a few weeks, that's neither a yes nor a no to the specific question if it is about KH III.

People really tend to read too much into it and get overhyped as from what we have seen so far of KH III and the statements in the latest Nomura interviews KH III is nowhere far enough to have already voice acting done.
To ascertain more, people should maybe look into what the japanese voice actors are doing since there's no way they would do only English audio.

I'm also a bit at a loss as to why fans keep asking such questions and by doing it possibly get the voice actors in trouble.

I'd take it with a grain of salt, but if its true, then I couldn't be happier.

With 3 actors saying they have or will record for Kingdom Hearts 3, I think they are really farther in development than we think.
Who knows? Maybe Square and Nomura want to surprise us? I have no clue, really.

Hopefully it was KH3... we have to fight Sephiroth one last time, it makes sense we fought him in the previous numbered games (just imagine fighting/dodging Sephiroth with flowmotion)

Whenever I read news like this I'm like: well, duh!
Why is it such a surprise that Goofy and Cloud will be in KHIII? And why are people surprised about that?

Did anyone here actually play KH games?

My first thought is "He's probably talking about FF7 Remake" but that game has been in development for an even shorter time, so it's actually more believable that he's talking about KH3. I doubt Cloud will have any presence in Chi Back Cover or 0.2 BBS, so it's either KH3 or FF7 Remake. And unless it's for another FF7 Remake trailer (very possible, since E3 is coming) I can believe it.

I'm hoping that they're literally just teasing us, so they can hit us with an actual, serious surprise either this month or at E3. I love the news, but I'm not hopping too much on it.

I'm pretty certain it is either FF7 or World of Final Fantasy related 8D. (Or Dissidia. Man, we are supposed to get news on a PS4 version of the arcade game at the end of the year...)

lol, do we even need Cloud in KH3? The guy is getting a whole game now, it's too much Cloud! Get him outta here! Throw him in the garbage! I'm glad his appearance in KH2 warranted him finally getting his own game on PS4, though.

Yeah, don't know too much about the VO scene but I'm pretty sure some VAs aren't even told about what they'll be doing before they record the voices, they're just asked to come down to the studio to do it. I would say a trailer for FF7 Remake or World of Final Fantasy is on the money, but if it's a KH3 trailer, then even better.

So....that clearly means that Sephiroth will be coming back!

Every time I hear VA news I get more worried. If its real then I hope this is for promo work cause KH3 doesn't look ready.

Hmm, I am also thinking that maybe Burton is doing something VII Remake related, but I hope that we are going to see Cloud and Sephiroth in KHIII. Their stories were left in cliffhanger, and for me it is some sort a tradition that we have fight against Sephy in numbered KH title(hoping for other FF villains as bosses too).

Yeah, I had a strong feeling that the Cloud/Sephiroth subplot would come back full force in KH3. They did have that scene during the credits of BBS were Sephy abducted Zack

If anything, Zack could be part of Cloud's motivation in pursuing Sephiroth. To defeat his inner darkness and possibly save his friend

I can't really think of a good reason why Sephiroth would abduct anyone, so I'm betting on murder.

Square, is it so much to ask for an update? I know you like to play jokes on us like you did FF7, but come on. If you put these guys up to this just to screw us, it's not very nice. Please, please, please, just give us an update, or ask the voice actors to rebuke what they have said. I would LOVE a percentage, but we all know you won't.

I just want Zack alive and like...not dead. Can I get that, guys? Can I get Aerith and Zack meeting for the first time in Radiant Garden because she was in the newly renovated chapel tending to some flowers and he falls through the stained glass and they are in love and whatever and THEN have Sephiroth diddly everything up. Hmm... I don't want to buy into any of this, because I know I'm just going to be disappointed in the end, but...

I almost want to believe it all now. Especially with three voice actors having spoken similarly.

Maybe they are doing cutscenes and voice acting now.

I know that's usually not the way it's done at all. I mean, without a finalized script, they might end up having the VAs record things that end up being cut in the end, and waste money and resources that way.

But this is KHIII: the biggest game the series has done to date. Perhaps they are trying to get the scenes/voice acting worked on early, so that it can be the best it can be (I mean, most people are invested in this in finally getting a satisfying end to the Xehanort Saga, I assume).

People DID point out that it looks like the E3 trailer used different lip-sync for the Japanese and English versions, so maybe they're making two versions of all the scenes, and SE Japan could be giving them to SENA to work on? It makes even more sense, if they're perhaps going for a worldwide release date.

And with so many of our VAs sadly dying recently, maybe they really are trying to get on things.

I also remember a LONG time ago, before KHIII was even officially announced, Nomura said he knew basically everything he wanted to happen in the game story-wise, so maybe the story staging is more complete than we think.

But on the flipside of that, they were only finalizing worlds recently, and Nomura was still trying to decide on the secret ending, and ending in general.

Maybe they have some cutscenes completely finalized (for both languages), and not others, and are just having people voice those as they go along?

(And though I could possibly believe that Jim Cummings has completely done all of his work now--at least for Winnie the Pooh--and that Steve Burton could be doing all of his work for Cloud when he eventually goes in, I completely doubt that Bill Farmer's done with all his work for Goofy yet. If anything, maybe he's done voicing some of the English trailers.)

I'm inclined to believe that if all these actors have been correct, then maybe an English trailer can be expected at E3. As far as all voice acting being done, I'd most likely believe Jim Cummings as I imagine, in theory, they could have gone ahead and recorded all the 100 Acre Wood dialogue now if they wanted to since that world is kind of a side quest and not as relevant to the main plot/affected by future main plot changes, but even if true, the sequence of all this is definitely strange.

I agree. The game does need some more time, that is clear, but I don't think a release next year would mean it's being rushed. Maybe there is this worry that KH3 will not meet personal expectations and the only thing someone could believe to be the solution to this is to keep it in development?

I'm only worrying because of what I've seen. If they show more grounded and organized gameplay then I won't worry about the game releasing anytime soon.

Please keep in mind that what they show is often from builds earlier in the year months before events happen so what we see as incomplete in one build may be completed in another. We have yet to see the game as it is in its most current form.

I am still of the believe everything shown at D23/Jump Festa was cut from E3, but with some updated HUD elements, so I'm excited for anything shown at E3.

These recent VA news could just be recording for specific cutscenes to be aired on a e3 trailer.

...or the game really is in an advanced stage of development and the early builds we've seen have been purposedly presented that way to make us think the game isn't anywhere near finished. I mean, the recent "trolling" Square Enix did was hype the release of a HD version of PSX FF7. Months later, we get THE remake of FF7. Maybe SE feels ready to go guns blazing with KH3?

Iunno what to think. xD I'll be conservative here and just let e3 surprise me.

I am a firm believer that KHIII has been in development longer than Square Enix leads us to believe, however as voice work is often the last thing done I have a hard time believing the game is that far in development.
Unless this time around they're doing voice work right along. While we don't know how involved Disney is this time around, Disney does know KHIII is a big deal and may have decided "hey let's do the voice work our way this time" which I feel should happen anyway. Matching animation to voice would make the scenes feel more natural than matching voice to animation.

It is strange how all these voice actors are hinting at that they have or will be doing work for KH III. I agree with what some others have already said, I think they are more than likely taking a different approach to when the voice acting is taking place in the development of the game. Due to Disney's greater involvement in this game and also the VAs who have already died it would make sense that they are doing the voice acting earlier than normal. I do think however that Steve is probably doing FF work and not KH but maybe I'm wrong...right now I'm just hopeful for anything :smile:

With KH3, the chances are more likely it /wont/ be fully voiced because of how big it is, how resource heavy it is to animate everything, etc. This is why most AAA games have very short storylines

The reason they do voice recording last is because it is incredibly expensive, and incredibly difficult to manage based on people's schedules and union regulations and the like. So they leave it last when they have a near definite script finished so they dont have to rerecord anything. The only reason they recorded the Xehraqus conversation was because they planned on using it extensively in the marketing of KH3 (it's also why it's the only voiced cutscene shown so far for KH3).

Doing it early wouldn't really be beneficial if things need to be rewritten or changed around. And it also wouldn't even be that helpful for animation reasons because they have the animators animate the cutscenes prior to recording with either a computer voice or staff members doing the audio so they can get the animation near perfect ahead of recording and then it just requires tweaking once the recordings are in.
