A new Kingdom Hearts 2.8 trailer has dropped featuring new Kingdom Hearts footage! Take a look below!

I saw dodge roll in the new KHIII footage. That's more than enough for me right now. #DodgeRollIsMyNumberOneFriendinKH.

Also, I love how Eraqus seems to be putting down the darkness with the slightly different wording of his line now. LOL. "Unlike darkness, there's more to light than meets the eye" istead of, "And maybe light will win; there's more to light than meets the eye."

No dub for the Back Cover stuff, huh? Makes me wonder if SENA has cast anyone for those roles yet...

Also, did I hear wrong, or did they use Riku's Japanese battle grunts for this trailer? A bit weird, since everything else seems to be in English for 3D, but whatever, I guess.

Awesome trailer, and it was actually more than I expected from it, really.

The hype is real, guys. Ahh!:D

[strike]And I still say the Master of Masters is Walt Disney, secretly.[/strike]

SE trailers have been really odd the past few years because it's so often a mix of Japanese and English footage/dialogue. Kinda bizarre.

Reminds me of when we first heard Willa in BBS. It was grunts in Gameplay which made everyone think it was fake.

Yeah, Sign, that was what I was thinking, too:) This trailer just stuck out to me a bit compared to the other ones, though, because it seemed like it was the only part of the 3D segment... (err.. KH HD Dream Drop Distance) that did that, but it's totally fine:D I'm just happy to see this trailer at all, tbh.

Ahh, SE, how I love you lately: you're so good at showing trailers to the public these days. Thankfully, it looks as though our days of closed theaters and stuff like that are long behind us^_^

@Chaser Speaking of Willa, I'm really excited to hear her again in 0.2! I thought she'd improved greatly in the secret episode for BbSFM, so I wonder just how much better she might even be now!^^

Interesting that the transformations are very fluid. It's very encouraging that it's not going to be like BBS' style forms.

Upon rewatching the trailer... I'm kind of annoyed at how much SE is spoiling of Dream Drop Distance, since I know some people haven't been able to experience that title yet.

But then again, spoiling their games' stories in trailers is just Square Enix for you. -sighs-

Wasn't DDD spoiled a ton from the get-go back in 2012? At this point, I'm pretty sure that SE believes that their target audience has either already played DDD or has already found spoilers over the course of three years.

No contest, the old trailers spoiled a crap ton. The E3 trailer gave away all the good moments. This trailer is too tamed in comparison.

That is true. This series has never been one to even try to hide spoilers. It's always been like "you'll take it and you'll like it, and that's that".

Wasn't expecting those new KH3 clips! Square is on a roll with the news. All this KH and FF news has me pumped.

Talking about Chi though, Master of Masters who can see the future? That's interesting. That makes the Book of Prophecy make more sense, since now we know the author could see into the future, thus explaining the book's contents (it always annoys me in fiction when there's a "prophecy" but no explanation as to where it came from or anything).

But now the question becomes, how can the Master see into the future? And the term "Master" in KH usually always refers to Keyblade Master, even Yen Sid despite him no longer being such. If this guy is the Master of Masters, does that mean he was the original Keyblade Master? As in, the χ-Blade Master?

Not gonna lie, it's beginning to worry me. I was fine with the time travel because Nomura was smart and made it so that it didn't mess with anything, it was only the explanation of how it works and why it was used that made it confusing.

This, on the other hand, has me skeptical. Kingdom Hearts is already weird with its plot, but its always been weird in that understandably anime-ish kind of way. The story contents of Chi, on the other hand, are making me think the story may get far fetched enough to actually make me upset with it, and I'm one of those diehard "KH can do no wrong" fanboys who has been totally fine with the entire KH lore thus far.

I also think time traveling, while still crazy, kind of has no option but to be in the series now given we needed all these version of Xehanort and how could they not be if not for some level of time or dimension traveling.

To be frank, I never saw the necessity of Chi (still don't), which is why I was super happy that it was originally non-canon and even when it became canon didn't mind since hey, the Keyblade War DID happen, and it was cool to see it happen. That being said, yeah, now that Chi has so many recurring connections to KH3 (not just the overarching plot of causing the worlds to fall to darkness leading to KH1) I find myself getting a bit flustered.

That being said, I'll always be one of those, as you put it "diehard KH fans who thinks KH can do no wrong." There has been a lot of unnecessary Kingdom Hearts stuff both in the games and even in merchandise (I cannot reiterate enough that 14 Sora Play Arts figures and 0 Aqua Play Arts figures is not OK), but, if it's blind love, it's blind love, I'm just like "sure" and I keep going :P

The Master of Masters had an eye that can see the future explains why the book of prophecies is even a thing that exists. I wonder if this future seeing eye ties into the evil looking blue eye that adorns Xehanort's keyblade and the keyblade of the 5 foretellers.... More importantly I wonder if Xehanort has this eye or a lesser form of it as that would explain so much especially certain events in DDD that the game abruptly interrupted the explanation of.

You might be onto something with the blue eye that appears in the keyblade of anyone that Xehanort has corrupted or influenced at some point, Darkgnaw, Chaos Ripper, Void Gear, No Name, End of Pain, even the Way to the Dawn has it, and that keyblade was obtained after Riku was free of Xehanort's influence (unless I missed something in Days or Another Side), the fact that the eye also appears in the Foreteller's keys might imply a connection to Xehanort and something equivalent to the Eye of Odin might be the connection

I don't think the Dodge Roll appears at all here. Instead, it looks like Sora uses Sliding Dash variants; one with fire, and one with ice. If you're looking for Dodge Rolls, the E3 2015 trailer was rife with them if you look around a little bit. :)

The lack of dubbing is to be expected, really. After all, it's only the original trailer with English voices plastered over it where and if possible. The early II.5 trailers do the same thing, as well. I think it shows how relatively early in this is, though; we probably won't hear a full, proper English dub with lip-syncs and whatnot for quite some time.

Still, I'm pretty excited, and wasn't expecting to see any battle footage of III that we hadn't seen already. The rays of light that Sora launches from his Keyblade Guns at Rock Titan look very similar to the ones shot during Ragnarok (or Infinity, if you go by the II.5 translation), and during some of the Olympus footage Sora seems to be flinging himself around using a move that looks similar to Ars Arcanum. The brief attacking shot in the Tangled world vaguely reminds me of Rising Sun, with the exception of the finishing blow, which kind of reminds me of Light Spear Cannon from the Tales of series, and then there's the Sliding Dash variants I mentioned above, and...

Guh, so much to look at! I'm not one for hype trains, but I'm buying my ticket. Choo-choo!

Don't get me wrong, I still love Kingdom Hearts with every fiber of my being. Like, I understand how silly and contrived its plot is, and yet I love it a bajillion times more than even Tolkien's work (keep in mind, I understand Tolkien's writings are of infinitely higher quality and talent, I just have a way stronger connection to KH than LotR, is all). Kingdom Hearts will always be near and dear to my heart, as it is one of my favorite things on this planet.

I'm only worried that Chi will make the story too weird. Stories with prophecies and future-seeing and time travel get cliche and weird really fast. Kingdom Hearts does cliches, but they're fine because the feels are always there. I know that I'm basing this off of nothing more than gut reaction to a story I know nothing of, but my initial reaction to Chi's addition to the plot is "This is going to change the feel of the entire series, and perhaps sour up the series' overall story, and even the regular games won't feel the same anymore".

It's kinda like how some people thought DDD ruined aspects of the original games. Such as how, prior to all the later games, Ansem was on Destiny Islands just to bring the world into darkness, but we later find out that he was also there to transfer his time-travel powers to his young self and then also to wait for Sora and Riku so he could follow them into the Realm of Sleep. It adds additional context to the pre-existing games, and that additional information can alter the feel of a game once you know said info. I'm worried about Chi doing that to the entire series as a whole, since the events that take place in it are the origins of the whole series and directly affect the entire franchise.

If a certain fan theory is correct, Chi is all being played out as someone in the real world reads the Book of Prophecies, hence why the game begins with the book opening up. I'll bet that, if that's true, whoever is the one reading the book and playing out the events of Chi as they read it is the one with the original.

I feel different, mostly because this time it isn't "Master Xehanort doing all the weird stuff" but we have a new set of characters, new places and new plot devices. At least to me [chi] seems to be a way to connect all the strange stuff we've seen before (time travel, sleeping worlds, memories, datascape) and make somehow sense of it all (or not, because we aren't there yet).

In this better quality, I've noticed that the Station of Awakening in the KHχ Back Cover footage is using more layers and textures than we've seen used in those before. Yeah, it sure looks like Unreal Engine 4 to me. Hopefully the whole thing is 3D animated cutscenes in the Unreal Engine and not just a bunch of voiceover stuff. That'd be dumb to just have the camera switching between glass panels.

This is also true as well. Chi is either going to give the series some much needed context to make its plot devices make more sense in the greater scheme of things, or it's just going to further gunk up the plot with more contrived stuff to attempt to create a coherent logical plot. Here's to hoping for the former.

Did Sora use Shotlock on that Titan? And that dodge looked like a really good mix between the horrible KH II Dash and some faster dodging while not making it the least bit overpowered like in BBS.
Lastly, what's up with that awesome fighting when he's using the star seeker? That most be some kind of special attack but it didn't look like a normal ars arcanum or anything, more like one of those modes Riku can enter in 3D, maybe some kind of D-link?

That 'Shotlock' appears to be a Keyblade Transformation. So are the attacks with the Star Seeker. It turns into a Claymore-like sword, a Rifle and a Cannon. So far, it looks promising in that it's not a BBS command style - it's much more fluid in its transformations.
The dodge looks like Slide Dash, KH1FM-style, but much faster.

Unless the darkness has had some physical effect on her(their is nothing to hide) I don't think that was CGI but instead Aqua model in the unreal engine. The fragmentary passage is the biggest draw to this game..... the hype is defiantly not here from what they have shown. I suppose we still have Jump festa (for a more detailed look at everything)

At this point I am guess for early spring release date. Which mean by summer 2016 the game will marked down to 20 dollars so that good
1 thing square does not do in regards tokh is bonus content (artwork, cards and figurerines don't count)

It's not uncommon for a Japanese trailer to just feature a few seconds of a character from the back. We've already seen the Master Defender Keyblade in Unreal Engine 4 graphics, and Aqua will probably have her full new model revealed at the Kingdom Hearts D23 event in November.

It was gonna be a given anyway, but considering the KH YouTube channel has uploaded the trailer multiple times with the description in different languages and with the PEGI 12 intro, that it's the confirmation of Europe getting KH2.8 too.

I think we got to see a new environment effect of magic in this new footage. When Sora is using his sliding dodge in Twilight Town you can see some fire linger on the ground for a second. That might have been a side effect from fire magic.

I don't know, I've watched that a few times trying to see if it was the cause of the slide attack, but it looks like the fire was already there.

I've watched it too and I agree, it looks like the fire is already there. Based on Sora's movements and the position of the flames, there's no way that Sora's motion could have caused the flame based on the angles of him and the fire.

But there's a difference between saying "exclusive to PS4" and just saying "coming to PS4".

And that's still kinda weird. Why wouldn't they release the older games on X1? I don't want an X1, so it's not effecting me any. That's just weirdly bad marketing. Or maybe it actually isn't (assuming they figured they'd lose money porting it to X1). But then why port KH3 in the first place?

Meh. Whatever. I'm hype for this game nshit.

With 2.8, the only real reason I see it being PS4 only is because of DDD, what with the touch screen attacks on the 3DS, and only the touch pad on the PS4 controller is the only way to get around that when remastering it.

As for KH3, gotta take into account that this was probably all in the same deal when MS threw money at S-E and said "Can we have KH3 and FFXV on our console too?", but whether it was because of including FFXV in the deal that didn't allow them to get 1.5 or 2.5 (and 2.8 now) aswell or if Sony threw more money at S-E and said "Ok they can have those but we want exclusivity to the remasters of the KH series", who knows in the end...it's all background dealings that we're not aware of the details.

I doubt there was any moneyhatting really happening when it came to XB1 being included as one of the consoles KH3 would come out on. In 2013 nobody knew what the marketshare for XB1 and PS4 would be, and it was probably assumed that the gap wouldn't be as big or it'd lean closer to XB1 like things had been at the start of the last generation, so it was the best bet to make KH3 multi platform.

I am also fairly certain that when Matsuda came into power, he was focused on trying to reach the broad market with FFXV and KH3 in order to make more money on those games and build those brands up, but when PS4 became the bigger console post-launch, SE turned their attention away from XB1 since it is clear that they are unlikely to see strong results there.

Essentially, a lack of foresight put us and them in this situation.

I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but yeah they changed / added to the dialogue.

YX: Have you heard of the ancient Keyblade War?
E: Yeah. The Master’s favourite story.
YX: So, you know the Lost Masters. They’re the ones who started the Keyblade War.
E: Never heard of them.
YX: You can drop the facade.
*Trailer*
YX: On that land shall Darkness prevail and Light expire. The future… it’s already been written.
E: Who’s to say I can’t change it, and maybe Light will prevail. There is more to Light than meets the eye. You might be surprised.
YX: Oh I hope so.

You can tell they rerecorded the whole line because he goes from saying "There is" in the E3 trailer to "there's" in the 2.8.
But it makes little sense to bring the guy back in to rerecord one line for a 30 second teaser ;)

Yeah they sound identical to me, too. When I noticed that there was more in the 2.8 trailer, I just assumed that meant they edited it out from the original trailer, for whatever reason. Given how this scene is the first thing in the whole game, I wouldn't be surprised if they had the whole scene translated and recorded to be honest. For better or worse I imagine it is going to be a big part of all the trailers.

I'd love it too, but i feel like a more story driven trailer won't be released until they've gotten more worlds ready to show the public, hence where the scenes would probably take place.

well by story, i mean more the KH story, which almost exclusively takes place outside the Disney worlds lol

(tho they are trying to fix this reportedly)

That dream was already "ruined" to begin with as KH III itself was stated from the beginning to not come to PS3.
Back when the first Kh HD Remix was made the PS3 was still current-gen while the PS4 was next-gen and had just started.
Today though the PS4 is current-gen and the PS3 last-gen

This is one reason why this one isn't going to the PS3 as well. The other reason is that the x[chi] back cover movie and the new BBS 0.2 use the same new engine KH III uses, which the PS3 cannot handle.

If it was really there for that purpose it probably should've included more new footage lol.

I understand why it didn't (because D23 is around the corner) but for the cynics, seeing that snippet of a trailer that more or less looks identical to the one they showed off three months ago, it doesn't exactly exude confidence.

It was a video. Very short. Started off with concept art of Heartless, then it showed Sora's animations of his Keyblade transformations of that star Keyblade, then it moved to a concept art piece of CT ("Cable Town") then an unfinished 3D model of CT, then it went to Sora walking into the (now obviously unfinished at that time) study where we see Xehanort and Eraqus playing chess but it was up at a higher angle where you could see a lot of the room.

All of this footage was barely 30 seconds long.
