Idk. I think the KH mangas prove that Kairi CAN be written as a good character, so I don't think removing her is the solution. To me, the solution is... actually giving her stuff to do outside of being a damsel/token love interest.

Sadly, I think it's telling of KH2 is more to my liking.

It shows how minor changes to the story can make a huge impact. You wouldn't have even had to change much about Kairi's role in the story in KH2 to give her more development and presence. All they had to do was show her a few more times and show her try and escape and stand up for herself a bit more and you've already gotten a more interesting portrayal of her character.

I feel the same is true for KH3, you'd only have to make some minor tweaks and a lot of the issues would be lessened. One of the changes that would have helped the most was more interaction scenes to flesh out the relationship between characters.

Anyone else find Axel and Kairi’s interactions to be uncomfortable to watch? I can buy Axel as a good guy, but him being friends with Kairi just feels...off. Quinton Flynn’s delivery is still a bit inherently creepy when talking to her.

I personally did not feel weirded out. I found Marluxia interacting with any female not named Larxene as a lot more creepy.

I've shipped Sora/Riku since the start. Their relationship hits all the points for me and feels the most organically developed. Plus I love their chemistry. I also ship Sora/Riku/Kairi as super deep platonic or 3-way romance, depending on my mood. I'm so not happy with Kairi's treatment in KH3, but thankfully there's the fandom to help with that.

I also have a soft spot for Kairi/Selphie.

See, I'm the opposite. Whenever Kairi appears, it's a complete fail. I'm so tired of this demand for more with her; the war has already been lost with that character. I'm hoping the next game is another Riku-Sora dual scenario taking place wherever they are in the Secret Ending because Riku dived straight in after Sora 3 minutes after the KH3 ending.

However, the KH2 and Days manga do eventually tone down the comedy, and KH2 in particular gives Kairi a TON of added screentime. It shows her befriending not just Hayner, Pence, and Olette, but also Seifer. She actually talks to Axel when she's kidnapped, and even attempts to break free of the prison in TWTNW until Demyx goads her into going back. She gets some fantastic scenes and interactions that REALLY let her shine while it still feels in-character.

This is why I simply can't agree with those who want Kairi to be left behind.

Shipping in general is eye rolling nonsense to me,but if I even give a passing thought canon is the only thing that exists in any medium for me. In general I don't understand pairing someone up with no romantic bases. Also breathing in the same direction doesn't make characters lovers, and one character having a strong crush while the other is completely oblivious doesn't make them one either. Furthermore showing platonic affection toward a best friend doesn't mean sex is on the horizon. That's why I stick to canon. There's payoff there. I don't understand shipping nothing.

As for this series in particular concrete romance might blossom in the future,but at the moment there is nothing canon here.

It's just, a lot of the time they... aren't. Because either authors are inexperienced or young or they just wanna write fluff. Which is totally in their power, but I feel like the stigma some people have towards ships (and especially noncanon) ships is silly.

Sometimes the "canon" pairings are just boring and people wanna try something else.

Boring is subjective.

But again canon is romantic payoff that's why if I give shipping the time of day that's where I'm going to look. Fanon is never ending frustration of something that is never going to happen, and worst of all you know this so why put yourselves though it?

I mean, for me personally, I just find exploring other possibilities interesting, and if handled with good characterization and care, it gives some variety. There are literally thousands of fanfics that have the same old Sora/Kairi or [insert other popular pair] here, so sometimes it's just nice to see something a little off the walls (assuming it's actually well written).

But I'm also someone who enjoys a well crafted AU story, too, or works that explore concepts/ideas the actual games did not. What-if type scenarios rather than generic high school AUs, though. The way I see it, if I want the canon, the canon is right there.

I've read all comments in this topic and I feel very weird... Some of you guys said that there is no clear relationship between Sora and Kairi. Umm, how is that?

In my opinion:


1. Kingdom Hearts - Sora and Riku are competing who can share paopu with Kairi
2. Kingdom Hearts - Kairi said Sora that they should take the raft and go together
3. Kingdom Hearts - Sora draws paopu fruit to their drawings and Kairi does the same.
4. AND KH3 - they share paopus (?? was it told that "If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what" ETC.. )
5. KH3 - There is a moment when Sora realized that he have a feelings for Kairi (yep yep, you guys know what I mean.)
6. KH3 - Aaaaaaand let's not forget about the ending. Yep, that's about it. Oh man I'm still broken..


Also Kairi has been writting to Sora in KH2 and KH3. Oh there is so many clues about their close bond.

But the end confuses me. I don't get how Kairi can be that calm when she knows Sora is about to vanish (oh, I bet she knows because of the tears.) I have been watching the ending scene and it looks like Kairi is about to do something with her hand (like catching Soras hand when he vanish). But I don't know for sure. I'm hoping that Kairi won't stay crying after Sora and she and Riku will do their best to get Sora back (secret ending, ding ding ding).


All these summed together - these two are meant to be together. But if you guys waited for the kiss - yeah right. If you have seen some animes that have meant to be for the 12-15 year old, the kissing scenes are rare (sadly T__T)



In my opinion relationship with Riku and Naminé, I'm not so sure about that. Yep, I thougth for a long time that Roxas and Naminé shares some feelings together but the ending of KH3 changed things. Roxas didn't mentioned Naminé for a single time (or as long as I can remember). It was awfully sweet when Riku went to pick up Naminé. But their relationship is far more unclear than SoKai.


I was also hoping some relationship with Aqua and Terra because these two characters are oldest main characters. But no, we didn't get any clues for this relationship. In my opinion.


In my opinion Kingdom Hearts is about friendship, right? And if I am right, there is not a single clue that there is any boy x boy relationships in this story (and if it would be, I wouldn't mind, don't get me wrong!). Axel and Roxas shares very close relationship and after KH2 we know that there is also Xion. And after KH3 there is Isa.




Did I already mentioned that I am still broken for the ending? T___T

I rather Riku/Kairi be a one-sided unrequited love type thing. It fits better with his actions in 1.

I don't think Sora/Kairi is forced, but underdeveloped. Kairi always felt like an afterthought in the series so i could see why people prefer Sora/Riku.

Pretty much, both of these explanations.

Xion/Pence was actually something I thought of when I was imagining a scenario of RAXI in Twilight Town, with Lea and Isa essentially co-parenting Roxas and Xion, who attend school with HPO post-3. (Thanks to whoever it was on this forum who thought of them all living in the Old Mansion; that's my headcanon now.) I guess if I wrote a fic of it, the pairings would be Lea / Isa, Hayner / Roxas, and Xion / Pence. I think Xion / Pence would be cute in a puppy love sort of way.

I've been on a KH high since playing KH3, forgive me.

I don’t mind non-canon shipps (I myself a shipper Akuroku, LeaKairi, RikuShi, VanVen, VenAqua, AkuShi)
Another thing is that when shippers are not canonical shipp begin to insult fans of canon shipp. In Naruto fandom this often happens, the fans of NaruSasu, SasuKarin and NaruSaku often insult SasuSaku and NaruHina shippers and try to humiliate them and prove to them that their shipp is not a canon. The words NaruSaku shippers addressed to Hinata are particularly unpleasant, where they claim that Naruto hates Hinata and actually married her out of pity. shipp relationships
My opinion is that you can shipper anyone, but personally I always respect the canonical shipp, even if I'm not a fan of these shipps. It’s just for me personally respect for the creators and for their choice, even if I don’t agree with them in everything.

I really hope that Roxas and Terra form a friendship beyond Kingdom Hearts III. Terra was the original body of Xemnas, so there's a likely possibility that Terra has retained Terra-Xehanort's memories.
