The Story

You are just a typical teenager, that is, until you wake up in a large urban city. Almost immediately you notice something odd. Your memory is either mixed up or completely gone entirely. Nothing is for certain but your name and the fact that your memories are all gone which is made known to you as soon as you awake. On top of that you cannot leave this city, (nor would you even know how) and your memory is the only way to help you leave. On top of that there are these weird creatures called Static that interfere with the memory process. You now must race across the city, purify each of the large district from Static in an attempt to get your memory back and beat the Collectors.

The Other Story

They have finally arrived here. As a Collector, your job is to take all memory from the teenagers and deliver it to your master, who remains a mystery to even you, resulting in the Fragmented becoming mindless slaves to your master, eventually resulting in them becoming Static. Your path is mysterious, your reasons are unknown to them, but you have some control over the memories, being able to return them or take them at will, but it is not as easy as it sounds, especially when you’re being attacked by a bunch of angsty teens and there are (as always) rules to how and when you can take and return memories. However, you guys also have a purpose. Each Collector is a Fragmented as well. And at the end of every session, you are given an offer: Leave with all your memories intact, or become a Collector with the promise of Eternal Life, unless of course you are wiped out by The Fragmented.

Try to Remember This

The District System

In this RP, everyone is basically in a large Urban Town. This town is composed of 11 Districts, each with small streets and mini-districts located within them. Each Fragmented begins in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] District and as they purify each section of the District of the Static by racing to get your memory before The Collectors stop you. Only the First District is available and the others will be revealed as each District is purified. Each district has an attraction that serves at the capital of that district which, more than likely, is where the object that holds the memory lies.

The Negative District:
Serving almost like a pocket dimension to Square City, the entrance to The Negative District is hidden to all those except the Collectors. It's appearance is actually quite small, which questions it's title of "district". However this dimension is unknown and may have limitless possibilities. It's current appearance takes the size and shape of what looks to be a run down basement lounge. There is hardly any light save for a large flickering dark purple neon sign, plastered on the farthest right wall, reading "{H0^^3 5W33+ h0m3}". Below this is a red leather couch, that takes up the exact amount of space that the sign occupies. On the wall adjacent to that, the rear wall, lies an identical couch and two leather chairs that look like they've been practically ripped from an expensive car and placed there for leisure time. Next to the chair to the far right, in the very corner is a mini fridge that might be empty, or might have food inside of it. The plug isn't plugged into an outlet, however food that is inside the fridge remains cold. Directly across from that wall are 3 columns of wooden boxes, stacked on top of each other in various heights. On top of these columns are various televisions that seem to come from different periods of time. These televisions rarely play anything other than static, however. Directly next to them are possibly the only things in this lounge that works, which are various vintage and recent arcade games which seem to exist for the sole purpose of entertaining the Collectors. All the materials that make up the walls, floor and ceiling of this lounge is a smooth, white, marble like substance, that easily reflects the light from the neon sign to give the room a dark purple feel. The room seems to have been crafted as if a father who wasn't ready to provide for his children bought a lot of things to entertain a group of teenagers.

District Zero:
This will serve as the area where every Fragmented begins. It is seemingly almost another plane of existence at the edge of Enix City, much like The Negative District. It takes the appearance of an empty, abandoned, parking lot with inverted colors. Each "parking space" is reserved for a respective Fragmented, adorned with the name of the Fragmented at the bottom of the space, much like a normal reserved parking space would serve. The parking lot, in typical parking lot fashion, is emblazoned with arrows on the floor that point to the exit of the area, thus leading the group of teens directly to the first district and into the game.

District 1:
The first revealed District to the Fragmented, at a birds eye view of the entire city, this would be the lower left corner. Directly following the exit of the parking lot, this district begins to show signs of being a city, the buildings begin to become taller, and streets more narrow. However, every building is not important and there are buildings everywhere. Notable areas in this district include The Enix Hotel, located at the direct center of the city and Arcade Arcane, located directly to the right side of the city and Enix Museum of Space and Technology to the far left.

District 2
The second revealed District to the Fragments would be directly adjacent to District 1, taking place next just beyond the Enix Hotel. This part of Enix City is at an extreme of technological advancement and acute experimentation using static. Like D1 there are buildings everywhere only this time they are futuristic and often there are odd apparatuses such as monorail like transport devices in between them, mainly because large distances often are in between this district. A form of liquid naught unlike cold water bubbles below and in between both buildings, the streets and even from the sky itself. Then there are the rampaging static that are twice as deadly than in district one.

The Fragmented

You have been stripped of your right to remember anything straight. However, you guys are the Yang to the Collector’s Ying, get it? The Collectors collectively grow stronger as they aquire more memories from you guys, but once one of you Collects a memory ALL of you gain a memory as well. There are different types of you guys, just to mess around with your heads.

Blanks- You are the people who have awoken and just remembered nothing but your name and age. Basic stuff right?

Jiggsaws - You have all your memories...well most of them anyway. But they are all out of order. You remember things before and after another and it's all out of whack. Can you piece it together?

Headphones - So if you can't see things...hearing them is just as good right? I mean you can't tell which is which, or whose voice is who, or see the exit or the way to leave...but...at least you can hear things? Right?

LQ's or Pixels- Well you have them...you think. You really can't make out the pictures. You can see them, but everything is so fuzzy, and maybe even pixelated, you can barely make out what it is. Like someone tried to censor out your memories...not cool.

Fingerprints- You know how when you have a fingerprint on a CD and it makes the disk skip, or replay, or even repeat? Now imagine that, but way more frustrating and intense, on your memories. Yea, you can remember some things, but when you do, they'll freeze at the best part, or even skip the best parts to other more boring parts or even skip backwards! It can also replay something you've already seen.

Jack in the Boxes- Well it's like an actually Jack in the box, you’re going and going and going and BAM! It hits you! Same thing here. They come at the worst moments, at the worst times. You could be fighting off some Static, then memories hit you. In front of a car, same thing.

Static

These are little annoying things arent they? Ranging from small fries to humongous creatures, the Static are a force to be reckoned with. Well some at least, others are nuisances. In a nutshell: they interfere with memories. And as all Static do when you are trying to get a clear picture, it interferes, making things unhearable, unclear and un-everything. The biggest mystery is what exactry these creatures are, some say they are experiments from the Collectors, whilst others say they are Fragmented who never got their memories back. While some are small usually in the Districts there is one VERY LARGE one that has something special about it. These usually contain a memory, signaled by something glowing on it. It would be best to take out these things. You can always tell they're near. Just listen for the Static.

The Collectors

Well, that wasn't always their name. They were formerly known as Harbringers, but teens started calling them Collectors, just because of what they do. They travel along the city, bringing the Static with them and take back any memories the Fragmented have gained back or prevent the Fragmented from doing the same to them. Or at least they try to. It is very rare that they fail. They then deliver the memories ot their leader who is unknown even to them and who also gives them limited information regarding as to why exactly they are doing this. This might lead to suspicion within this faction, but it is rare when someone actually asks why, especially when you are bestowed with immortality in exchange for ensuring some kids don’t get their memories back. They only know that for some reason, while this is going on, no one else in the city can see them except those involved, and their leader goes by REM. They are the incentive to get Fragmented to participate as opposed to sitting around and allowing everyone else to collect memories for them. By collecting memories, they get stronger. They all usually work as a whole and get more powerful as a whole. Meaning if one person loses thier memory, all of them get stronger. The Collectors can summon Static at will and can turn memories into physical objects, absorbed upon touch. They are responsible for distributing and verifying where each memory is placed before the Fragmented are forced to go find them, like a twisted Easter Egg Hunt. Though taking memories from them is a whole other story. The other person MUST be unconcious, deceased, or VERY relaxed and still, that way the mind is clear for the Collectors to...well collect. Taking memories is a process…with rules. When you see these guys…it’s best you run. Very fast.

Abilities and Fighting

You didn't really think you were helpless did you? Somehow in this strangely unfamiliar town, you can do things...you never imagined you could do before. Or after. Or period. Depending on your preference and predetermined memories, you are bestowed with a simple sticker matching your personality type when you enter the town, put the sticker anywhere and it will sink into your skin. Whenever you touch that point and focus and your weapon or ability is summoned to you, in its lowest form of course. (So for example, if your weapon is oh I dunno let’s go ahead and do something crazy like give you a sword, its going to start off as possibly a dagger or small sword and evolve into something greater.) Along with that you are able to collect and utilize other stickers as you collect memories to help you fight and battle. For the Collectors however, they pretty much have everything down, their stickers are permanent tattoos that display their heightened abilities, the more tattoos, the more times The Fragmented know that they have won these little…treasure hunts.

Stickers are categorized into the following criteria:

  • Weapon Pair - A Single-Weapon with an extraordinary ability.
  • Weapon Solo - Specific kind of weapon with no extraordinary ability in particular.
  • Ability Solo - Sticker that just grants a very generalized ability.
  • Ability Pair - A sticker where the user can generate multiple renditions of a select or series of weapons possessing maybe one other trait.

Memories

  1. As the intention is to take or re-take memories, when the memories are taken from a Fragmented by a Collector, they are sent into a comatose like state, and at the end of the game, they are effectively turned into Static and wander the district they were defeated in. The only way to bring that Fragmented back to conciousness is if they find and retake the memory from the Collector who took it. Once it is back in the possesion of a Fragmented, as per the ability of Fragmented, they are able to absorb the memory, thus resuscitating their fallen comrade.
  2. It is also entirely possible to kill an opponent if one so desires. If an opponent is killed as opposed to being defeated, the slain will BECOME a memory.(Which in a way, is kind of like death) The body will whither away, thus regaining the memory will do nothing for the person who was killed. The memory usually evaporates within seconds of it's appearance, however it can be touched to experience the memories of the fallen before fading away, most likely to REM. Experiencing memories other than your own is a very dangerous, painful, and possibly scarring process, due to it being an unnatural occurance and the fact that whoever's memories you have experienced will become part of your memories now.
  3. Memories in this world take the shape of a polygonal, crystalline substance about the size of a tennis ball, with the rapid playing of the experiences of a person going on inside the transparent crystal. Collectors have been imbued with the power to take the raw experiences themselves, almost as if they can bend time, and give them form in the shape of the crystal the memories are in. Thus due to their connection with memories, they are able to willingly control and manipulate the Static to their will. Fragmented are essentially the opposite being able to release memories from their crystalline state and experience them.

Memories take three forms:
  • Game Memories: These are the memories that are essentially the ones that the Fragmented are after. These memories are blank in appearance, but one gained, it regains a memory for all the Fragmented.
  • Genuine Memories: These memories are the singular memories of a person. These are the memories crafted when a Collector takes memories.
  • Life Memories: These are the memories that are crafted when someone dies and are the most powerful memories. These are memories in their purest state, consisting of the entire life force of someone's existence and all of their experiences. The most powerful form of memories.

Got it Memorized?

This is Enix City. The Fragmented live in Enix City, they have lived here their entire lives. They just don’t remember that they used to. The Collectors live here as well as their leader. Everything takes place here. However, here memories are power. Memories are everything. Because who are you without your memories? You must craft a whole new personality without anything to base it off of. Will you like what you find you used to be as you gather pieces of your memoires? Do you even know why you are doing this? Why can you do physically impossible things and no one can even see you do it? Who exactly is REM?
In conclusion: Memories are power here. A group of people were specifically chosen to participate in this and their memories are stripped from them. However the longer they are without all their memories, the more they are incomplete, the more incomplete they are the more they start to become Static. The Collectors’ job is to make sure they become Static and their memories are delivered to REM. The only way to prevent this is if The Fragmented go to each districts specific destination, wherein lies a memory, signified by an object of the past, and a Static guarding it.

Remember the Past?

00. Cycl3z

The Fragmented find themselves in a strange parking structure where the colors are inverted, a realm know as District Zero, being awakened from some sort of slumber. They all discover that they have absolutely no recollection of anything and their only clue is a name and a handful of stickers. As they begin to form small cliques within their group, Courtney proposes to exit the structure, following Deejay and Kit. Jack follows with Shiro, Kaito, and Rael not too far behind, as they tail the group for safety.

Another Cycle has begun as the Collectors begin to gather in the Negative District from their respective areas in the city. New recruits fill the room as the veterans feel the sting from losing three of their own in the last Cycle, which came as a shock to all. Hints of doubt spread across the room as they all gather together. They are all soon greeted by their employer: R.E.M.. They are given their instructions as well as shown their targets. They are all aware that District Zero is a safe zone, and lie in wait for the Fragmented outside in District 1, where the game awaits.

01. Hunt3d

Blaster utilized a ability of his to produce a growl that startled the very bewildered Fragments and caused a handful of them to become trapped in Vandiken's barrier, preventing escape. However, R.E.M. interfered with the two collectors, summoning televisions that transported the Fragments into two groups. Cheza, Jack, Deejay, Siam, and Kit were sent to the Enix Museum of Space and Technology; while Kaito, Kael, Shiro, Anna, and Courtney were sent to the Arcane Arcade. Each Fragmented was sent a message from R.E.M. vaguely describing their situation to them as well as telling them that their first destination was the roof of the Enix Hotel, where the first Game Memory lies in wait.

-Enix Museum of Space and Technology

Rika
took Mirror by the hand and began to lead her to the Museum while Jack awoke in the curator's office along with the other Fragmented sent there. Kit decided she wanted to hurry and get to the Hotel, and walked off on her own, looking for the exit. DeeJay followed again, asking her if she even knew where she was going. Rien showed up first at the Museum, and made it a point not to be seen and wait for the Fragments at the entrance. The complete opposite of where they actually were. Cheza awoke, and began to talk to Jack while Siam had woke up too, noticing the both of them talking. Rika and Mirror arrived just outside the Museum, and began peering through the windows at the remaining three Fragmented. Inside the Museum, Rien summoned Static of his own creation and sent them toward the location of the Fragmented, intending to attack them with his Static. Outside, Rika attacked Jack with her weapon, using it to break the window to the ground level office they were in, and throwing him out into the street outside the building. Rika turned to the other two girls in the building and attacked them, while Jack turned to face off against Mirror. Silver finally showed himself at the Museum, meeting up with Rien and attempted to implant small explosives into Rien's Static, who reacted by putting him in a headlock He then summoned another batch of Static this time with the ability to explode if they weren't defeated within two minutes. In addition, he sent his fans to destroy every skylight (those windows that allow you to see the sky in the museum i'm assuming) in the museum and sending shattered glass at any of the Fragmented currently inside the Museum. , Mirror explains the basics of the Cycles, and attacks Jack with ice as Siam retaliates against Rika. Inside the Museum, DeeJay and Kit frantically escape the shattering glass as Kit erects a slide of ice to escape the complex. Rien and Silver, now working together, had planned to intercept the two girls, with Silver creating small explosives and throwing them into the air above the alley that the two teenagers were running through. If they step on them, they explode. Small land mines. Elsewhere, Jack activates his Stickers and discovers how they work, and after attacking Mirror, begins to run away in the direction of the Enix Hotel. Ren supports Mirror as Rika retaliates against Cheza and then follows in pursuit of Jack. Cheza and Siam escape the Museum and begin their chase of Rika. Meanwhile, inside the museum, Silver and Rien are playing a game of cards which is cut short when Van summons Rien to the rooftop for support against Courtney and Kait
o.

-Arcane Arcade

Kaito was the first to awake in the Arcade, and advised his group to ignore R.E.M's instructions and fine their own way to the Hotel. Shiro followed and agreed that they should get to the Hotel and realized that the group was being attacked by general Static who were appearing from out of the screens of the many video games that line the rooms. Blaster took Sync and they both decided to make their way to the Arcade, with Blaster noticing Anna's name plate. Anna woke up in the Arcade and was immediately aware of the Static heading the groups way. She summoned her two daggers and prepared to take on the horde. Courtney awoke too and realized that she was going to need a weapon if she was going to take on the Static attacking them while Blaster and Sync arrived at the Arcade and could see the Fragmented in the farthest room through the windows. Shiro had some trouble utilizing his weapon, while Courtney summoned hers with ease as Kaito quickly figured out the mechanics of his weapon as well. Ren appeared behind Shiro and instructed him upon the mechanics of his weapon and Shiro used this information to finally summon his weapon and begin the fight the horde. Kael summons his weapon and begins the fight as well but finds himself within inches of Anna's face. Vandiken intercepts the group in the Arcade and begins to bombard them with fierce attacks, which includes creating artificial life bars above the Fragmented's heads, summoning support orbs, and blowing out the wall to the Arcade. Kael goes into a state unusual to the group and begins to assist Courtney in attacking Van. Now outside the Arcade, Van assaults the group with lasers to which Courtney responds. Courtney and Kaito pair together in an effort to stall Van using Kaito's ability to produce Sonic Claps and Courtney's prowess with her kukri and teleportation. Blaster appears outside the Arcade with Sync, and targets Shiro, and Anna, his prey of choice since the beginning. Shiro attacks Blaster as Anna fights Sync, while Kaito contemplates and later completes abandoning Courtney in the fight against Van. Courtney meets back up with Kaito, ignoring his obvious traitorous nature as Kael attacks Van. Van evades the attacks and creates a large Static and lures Courtney and Kaito to the Enix Hotel. The place where the first game memory is located.

I can’t seem to remember…

Name:

Dikushi Janeru

"Mercy. It’s just
'D.J.'"

Age:
15

Gender:

Female.

Status:

Jack.

Personality:

"Jeez, whatta trainwreck..."

She’s a soul that prefers to go with her own flow, mind her own. She's not yet used to being limited by other’s dissimilar views and goals, nor is she completely fond of the idea. Strong dislike for charging into situations head-on, and an equally strong lack of motivation for what does not concern her or her interests.

Possessive and loyal toward whatever she holds dear, she turns ferociously aggressive with such matters concerning she’s fond of. (This can be anything: convictions, material possessions… Ah, but she has absolutely zero prior knowledge of any dearly-held items, thank you wiped memory.) Easy to irritate, hard to anger, nearly impossible to get her to yell. If you manage to shake her voice out of its usual monotone timbre, congratulations–you’re one of the rare few! But seriously. Avoid getting D.J. on her bad-side. Though it’s rare for her to get to this point, she has a hard time letting go whatever you did to piss her off, and she can be quite vindictive.

Though not particularly outspoken, she can be direct with her feelings. Ask for her opinion, and she’ll give it to you straight. Doesn’t lie; very opinionated. However, she rarely has an audience to share her opinions with, as her ever-present “frown-face” tends to make little children shudder and keep strangers a good distance. She’s not pissed all the time, that’s just her natural visage.

Now, she’s comfortable being alone, but doesn’t reject companionship entirely. There’s a tiny tiny tiny part of her that wouldn’t mind keeping friends, but, again, she’d have to sacrifice her “follow-your-own-flow” motto, a motto that she’s done so well to upkeep till now…

Appearance:

"I look like deejay material to you?"

Slightly above average build for a 15 year old female girl, and a skin complexion slightly on the pale side. She’s a bit too tall, usual is higher than the girls her age, and has piercing black eyes and unkempt, short black hair that is in dire need of a brush and trim. Not so uncommon for D.J. to be mistaken for a teenage boy, actually, given her particular looks.

Her threads consist of a simple black hoodie about two sizes too big for her, and black jeans with way too many zippers. D.J. doesn’t care. D.J. isn’t too particular about looking “pretty” and has yet to understand that they are certain types of clothes that do nothing to flatter the female body.

For kicks, regular skate-sneakers, black and white. With a simple flick from her foot the wheels on the bottom of the soles eject–and, voila, skates! She takes advantage of this nifty mechanism quite often, usually skating around in them whenever she’s feeling particularly lazy. Actually, she’ll roll around on wheels even if it’s uncalled for in that particular moment. Again, D.J. doesn’t care.

She also wears a pair of thick black, square-rimmed glasses; however, these bi-spectacles are far from a fashion statement, D.J. legitimately needs these in order to see. Two years ago she was down with just the regular wire-frames, but you know what they say: Out with the old, in with the new. On both her wrists she wears wristbands that look more like buckles that wrap up her arm. On her right wrist, she also wears a bracelet adorned with small charms that resemble… crosses? Huh…

Abilities/Weapons:

12'' Vinyl Records
"Um? And what era are these artifacts from?"

Well, they look simple enough. A pair of 12’’ vinyl records. Nothing special, right? But with just the right flick, the rim of the disc glow a blazing light blue and whir like rotating discus. Can be thrown as spinning razors at her enemies for long-range attacks, or can be used for slicing and dicing static in close combat.

Bio:

“...”

Other:

She’s got rosaries in one pocket, a small bible in the other. Wherever the hell they came from, D.J. has no idea. Also. ‘Mercy’ and ‘Christ’ have a tendency to involuntarily slip from her mouth in times of distress; curiously enough, there’s no hint of her being of religious background. Not from what she can remember, at least.

Whether she does have true experience as a disc jockey remains unknown. Not like she has any clue.

She likes to skate around when picking up her legs becomes too much of a hassle. Walking is too mainstream anyway.

Reason for deciding to participate:

“Who… am I anyway? I wanna know… Need to know.”

Accepted! Nice work Rhapz.

I think we're currently waiting on Dream to get her temps in, and once that happens I'm going to establish/clear up some things about the lore of the story once I've finalized them. Anyway I'm noticing a lack of female Collectors...and this temp isn't going to help one bit.

But anyway!

I really liked your Memory Theft ability Kid A, hope you don't mind I kinda put a twist on it and gave this guy one too.

Name: Kaito Nakamura

Age: 16 seems to be close enough, so let’s stick with that

Gender: Judging by how it all feels, he’s assuming he’s a guy

Status: Fingerprint

Personality: Though practically wiped clean of experiences Kaito still despises having to repeat almost anything at all. Grades, statements, steps, movies, everything. This is connected to his almost constant state of being moderately bored, regardless of the situation. Sure, if there’s an explosion, he might smile for a few seconds and have his heart race (if he wasn't blown up in said explosion) for a few beats, but it’d quickly get old before the debris stops falling. Now, imagine what he feels like when all he can think in is repeating instances, sometimes of him repeating something. The resulting bad/bored mood causes his temper to be abnormally short and patience to be worn thin before anything shows up wanting to make his memory even worse. The quicker the hunt from district to district ends, the better for him. With a group or by himself, all Kaito wants to do is end all of the confusion and (somewhat reluctantly) return to his life.

Appearance: Kaito tends to stick out in crowds, outfits being randomly mismatched and thrown together on a whim. He’s worn the entire rainbow, sometimes just one section and others the whole thing. Currently, Kaito appears in a pair of dark green tennis shoes, laces red and bottom white, pants hanging off of him with a design consisting of several different shades of gray overlapping each other in the form of chains. Covering his chest and shoulders would be a dark purple t-shirt, complete with a white smiley face, eyes looking like keyholes and mouth representing the key, bordered by nothing but the shirt itself. Kaito’s standard features include lovely eyes that change color rather freely according to what he’s wearing, currently blue. Above those would be a jungle of hair, short enough to be kept out of the eyes, but long enough to cover anything above the ear. Standing at 5’11 and weighing in at what seems to be roughly 180 pounds, he’s not a tiny or thin character.

Abilities/Weapons:

Barrel - The sticker, once activated, causes his hands to shine a nice pulsating white while idle. Besides the glow, whenever said hands strike a surface, there’s usually a small shake and/or ringing that follow, along with the quick color change of the glow. A person hit by Kaito while this ability is activated would feel something like a forced shiver throughout their body, but nothing to cause anything too bad to happen. A rather fun part of this is whenever he snaps or claps, they always turn out to be quite loud, very annoying to have next to your ear.

I can't seem to remember the rest...

Bio: …

Reason for deciding to participate: Whatever stops the repeating and skipping, he’s happily willing to do. However, he wonders if he has to get back all of his memories…
