People are overdramatic about Sora in this game. They clearly play it in a stupid-is-funny way. Not flat-out idiocy like Terra or Ventus.

I disagree, Sora is just as stupid as Terra in DDD.
"What's your name?"
"Dream Eaters!"
"That's a weird name."

Sorry, but,… ugh

And that is a prime example of the "stupid-is-funny" thing that Tartarus mentioned.
Unlike Terra, Sora's stupidity is played on purpose for the lolz. Yes yes it's still annoying et cetera, but it mostly affects Sora's mannerisms and attitude, while the kind of stupidity that affected TAV lead to them make irrational and stupid decisions, even when "childlike and kinda dumb" isn't supposed to be a part of who they are.

I can tolerate the fool who still makes the right decisions more than the supposedly normal person who makes terrible, idiotic choices for seemingly no reason at all.

Well, I don't really think it's funny (it's subjective anyway), because Sora has never been as dumb as in DDD before (i'd say it's ooc but naah not really).

But yes, you are right with Terra & Ven's stupidity and all that

I think DDD sora was his more subconscious and childlike side, he was overconfident after saving the multiverse twice so he wasn't even trying anymore, set things to autopilot and suffered from it.

I think it was the lazy way of giving riku the spotlight but that's how i imagine the plot reasoning to be, yeah. As ooc as he was in kh2 i didn't mind DDD because it was closer to his personality. Unlike BbS that had literally no reasoning behind its plot besides "this needs to happen"

I can see they wanted to express the "stupid-is-funny" (Sora's "That's a weird name" line even comes of as Sora himself trying to be funny) as Sora being overconfident (and generally not caring about the Mark of Mastery) however the writers basically saw "overconfidence" as "stupid". So scenes which were intended to show the former we instead get the latter.

Sora in 3D isn't that different than Sora in KH2, imo. That's when the character was drastically altered to become mostly comic relief. I'm guessing they did it for the same reason that they dumbed down D&G in that game, too. Compare any one of the SDG trio in KH2-onwards to how they acted in KH1/CoM, and it's like night and day.

Exactly. And being a huge fan of the last two, that's what irks me.
It's more the fact that there are basically two Sora archtypes, that in KH II onwards (where they decided to become more appealing for the mass) they decided "Nah we need him to be the dumb kawaii adorable sugoi idiot, we don't care about coherency" that I dislike.
Sure, I can see trying to make him more like a child like the DDD finale hints, but... switching from all the Xehanorts gathered, that dark atmosphere, Riku and his deadly fights against them, to Sora having a tea party... it was too much.

Seriously. Why a tea party. No one would've done it in that situation. No way Yen Sid would've let that happen, too. It was kind of insulting, even, to Riku and whoever was still fighting.
In my opinion that's hardly funny, that's just not caring about a character.

I don't really think DDD Sora was inconsistent more like we had never seen Sora at his peak.

Before when he
adventure around he was home sick, he was lost/thrown out into a new adventure with little regard for his own desires, his friends were missing, evil, a lie, and or captured. He also had guys in cloaks and Disney villains emotionally and physically tormenting him every step of the way and had burdens like his power being used for evil.

Now though he went on this adventure of his own free will. He knows his best friends, home, and the worlds are more or less safe. He knows he will have Riku with him. He's had time to mentally and physically recharge. Every big baddie organization is gone and Xehanort is quite for now. Finally he's saved the world twice over and become impossible strong and skilled so he's very much overconfident. What we were seeing was Sora at his peak. What he's like when he's free to really revel and enjoy each world he visits, and these worlds are especially cool because there are dreams. The baddies he encounter for the most part don't try to do him harm they just tell him a few things and Sora isn't scared of them or what they could do. Then it all comes crashing down and we see Sora brought to a new emotional low angry, disregard for danger, sad, just plain sickened, and finally hopeless.

I do think we were very much suppose to feel
a bit of sugar high because that's how the story was. For Sora the final world was one big crash/one accumulation of every bad thing he had experienced or dealt with, hitting him right when it hurt the most.

I agree. I love the tea party and the final scene after the credits with the Dream Eaters, too. 3D <333

"Mhh... my head... what happened?"
"Sora, you were almost made a vessel by Xehanort, Riku risked his life twice in order to save you he's now unconcious after making sure you didn't spend the rest of your life in a coma."
"Kay, bored now. Donald, grab some tea and funny hats lolz"

The tea party was going from 100 to 0 in two seconds flat.
Never a fan when that happens.

Actually the game had already flatlined while Riku was talking to DiZ.

I liked the tea party. I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it. I'm sure it wasn't Sora who initiated it. Whenever I see goofy scenes like that, I'm reminded of Donald and Goofy reminding Sora to smile because it was a promise. Or at least, that's what happened in KH1 and Chain of Memories. By the time KH2 rolled around, seemed Sora really took this to heart even if the mask fell off now and then.

After all that crap happened, Donald and Goofy doing a whole tea party celebration seems typical of them.

Those scenes were what made me love KH3D so much. It bothers me that people take the games too seriously to not be able to appreciate the humor in the moment

It's such a SDG thing to do, too

I agree, that scene was so cute and nice because we never had anything like that before.
Plus, I just love Sora with that… thing.

It's not like I take the game "too seriously", but I just feel like not even Sora would be having a tea party while Riku is lying there unconscious and no one knows what's up with him.
Sure, one could say that they somehow knew he was gonna be alright after Sora woke up, but then it bothers me that Sora acted so extremely shocked when Riku finally did wake up.
I don't despise this whole tea party thing (I actually love the way Riku asks "why are you having a tea party?!?!" xD), I just feel like it didn't fit the situation much and was a little "over the tops".

Yeah, basically this. I love the scene itself and it's funny and cute, but in that exact situation it felt a bit off. I can imagine what happened after Sora woke up and I can imagine D&G doing something like that, but I still find it just a bit too unlike him for Sora to go along with it while Riku is still sleeping.
