“I know this ain’t the easiest place to fit into, but trust me. You’ll grow into it. If there’s one thing I’ll never forget about what life was before, it’d be the sky. Sure we’ve got paints and photographs, but just try to imagine what it must have been like to sit under a bright blue sky as you hear children playing in the background, or watch lovers walk down a park holdin’ hands. Those were the good old days. Today all we’ve got is a black smog surroundin’ the city. There ain’t no blue skies, ain’t no clouds, and there definitely ain’t no sunshine. Dunno how you got in here, but I’ll tell you right now. You ain’t gettin’ back out. Not without help. Not without a fight.
“See we folks of Helios ain’t got much goin’ for us at the moment. If you’re lucky, you might have a small shack with a bed an’ maybe some food. Just enough to keep us goin’. If you ain’t lucky…well, you better hope someone lets you in before the darkness really kicks in. No one’s really sure what haunts the night around these parts, but we know better than to stay out long enough to find out. Some say it’s a group of people clampin’ down on those unlucky enough to find anyone outside who ain’t supposed to be out at night. Others say it’s two beasts old John lets loose every night to take their fill of the city. Others still say it’s the angel of death comin’ to set us free. One by one. Me? I dunno. Found an arm one morning nearby. Was just layin’ there, with a ring still attached to one of the fingers. Don’t reckon no human could rip it off the way this thing was. Thought about takin’ it and showing it to other folks, maybe try to warn ‘em. Old Jimmy down the block beat me to it. Next morning he was gone, and so was the arm."
“John? Yeah, I mentioned him. If you needa know one thing about this city, it’d be him. Ain’t no one know his real name no more, but that's what we call 'em. We don‘t even know if he‘s a he to be right honest, but he’s the one in charge around here. Well…I say ‘in charge,’ but really he’s the one who took over. I see that skepticism in your eyes. ‘How can one man just overthrow the city?’ Truth is, I don’t know. ‘Ccording to stories, one day he was just barking out orders. No one bothered to listen at first, ‘f course. He told ‘em off. Said somethin’ about a curse on whoever didn’t obey him. Sure enough bad things started happening. One by one people found themselves in…peculiar situations. First guy got sick. Folks thought nothin’ of it. ‘’S just a cold.’ they told him. ‘You’ll get over it.’ I don’t need to tell you this, but fact of the matter is that he didn’t. No ma’am. Started with a fever the first day. Vomiting the second. He died the third day, just like that. Fourth day, a different man--a priest, I’ve been told--caught the darnedest thing. Flesh eatin’ virus. Just started fallin’ apart right in the middle of mass. Goes without sayin’ folks began panickin‘. That’s when old John appeared again. ‘I can save you.’ He says. ‘Just do as I say.’
“Keep in mind, records from that time are…spotty…at best. And there ain’t nothing that tells about what happened after that, but lookin’ around I’d say it’s obvious. He used fear to his advantage and took over. Some say he’s a savior. Say a god spoke to him and told him how to save the city. Many believe it enough. There’s a group that meets every week in the morning to praise him in some bunker. They get in a seven in the morning, and no one gets out until seven in the evening. Others say old John had a biological weapon of some kind. Used it for his own deeds and has it stored somewhere in that hideout of his in case we decide to be a bit more…vocal about our complaints. Small amount of people say he’s a devil in a human skin, taking his powers and using them to rule over us and get his jollies. I don’t believe a word of it myself, but lemme tell you this: Every person who has stood up to him--Every single one--has been struck down in the dead of night. Some die in their houses, others go missin’ outright. He definitely has something special. Some kind of tool or device that lets him see and hear probably everything in the city."
“We ain’t got much to show off in Helios no more. You can take a tour yourself if you want, just be sure to find some shelter by night. Ain’t tellin’ who or what is waitin’ for you outside the walls. This here’s the core of the city. It’s nothing more than a dump. A shell of it’s former self, but it’s home. Right in the middle is John’s hideout. Big building, reaches into the clouds, lots of windows. Can’t miss it. Those who go in don’t come back out the same. Just south of his hideout is what’s left of city square. Large enough place, got your fare share of debris. Main selling point is the fountain. It’s the only thing left untouched by his calamity. Crystal clear water flows outta that thing day and night. Some folks say the water’s the only thing keepin’ going for another day. Can’t say I disagree with them. The eastern part of the city houses that bunker I was tellin’ you about. The one where some folks go to praise old John like a god. There ain’t much else out there ‘cept houses. Turn yourself around and head west and you’ll find yourself in what used to be the more friendlier side of the city. There used to be parks fulla grass, a carnival that sold the best corn dogs, and the town hall. ‘Course time hasn’t been kind to those places. Town hall’s nearly destroyed, park’s in ashes, and the carnival is a right mess. The city itself is surrounded by a thick concrete wall. Thing must be ten feet thick, and ten times as high. But don’t think the wall’s there to keep you in. It’s there to keep them out.
See, John don’t care what you think. Don’t like the city? Get out. He ain’t stoppin’ you. He don’t have to. Monsters out there do it for him. During the day it’s as calm as can be out there. During the night, monsters appear. I ain’t talkin’ about wolves or coyotes. No sir. Some have seen dinosaur like creatures out there. Others have seen giant apes. I myself have seen some fur covered beast runnin’ around at dusk from the few times I was caught outside. Don’t believe me? Wait till the darkness comes. We can hear ’em, trying to knock the wall down. They haven’t succeeded. Not yet. That’s not to say the wall’s perfect. Once or twice something’s gotten over and into the city, but it’s better than nothing. Still, if you can make it out there, do it. Don’t take much, just gotta be one hell of a fighter, and a discreet shelter made of stone. Aside from whatever monsters are out there, there ain’t nothing outside the city ‘cept a wasteland. Dirt and rocks as far as the eye can see, ending with the smog that borders whatever’s left of our world. You can try going through the smog, but ain’t no one every come back from it. But assumin’ they made it alright, why would they come back to this hell on earth?
Ain’t nothing much else to say aside that…Well, there are rumors ‘bout a settlement far to the west of the city. There used to be a forest out there, though we can’t see it no more. Some folks left, headin’ in that direction. Who knows how they fared.
“Something’s gonna happen real soon. Ain’t telling what, but I can feel it these old bones of mine. There’s gonna be one hell of a show for us."
-Standard KHI RP rules apply. No Powerplaying or any other shenanigans.
-This isn't my RP. It's yours. I have a set story by default, but we're not following that. The story is dictated by the actions of your characters. I'm only here to give you the foundation and to give you a push if you get stuck or if the RP itself slows down.
-For that reason, you can create any kind of character you want. Want to fight against the warlord? Go for it. Want to uphold his word? Fire away. Want to be the warlord? First come first serve. Change him/her into whatever you want.
-Got any questions, concerns or ideas to improve the RP? Post away and let me know.
