^I disagree. They said: "Doohickeys."

Very funny. ._.

Anyway, Ketso won't accept that arm. You know that, right? Unless you lie to him and tell him it's not from Asuka. In which case, he will rip it right out of his socket WHEN - not IF - he finds out about it. .-.

D:< I also think that I should smack Penelope in the face for being stupid. >.>; But that could be my stupid enjoyment in cameos.

>.>

Still, someone needs to talk some sense into her.

And Ketso will NOT accept that arm. >.> So, if you say he does, it'll be very OoC, and I'll punish j00. o:<

Heh. Maybe I should post.

Anywho. I only enjoyed the chappy because Ketso was mentioned. And so was his sexy automail. Yes. And. Uhm.

Update. >.>; So I can semi-flame and glare at walls and kick the air around my computer.

Chapter Thirteen

~Kanynt Is A Speedy Cat~

The morning went by slowly. Really slowly. Mom didn't have any sphere hunting business, Asuka slept in all day, Amy and her sisters had school, and I had no idea what to do. I still had to deliver the box to Ketso... But, I just didn't feel like talking to him. Never did like him. He was too cheery. Not like Amy though. They were just... Different. Probably because I had no problem with Amy. I laid in my bed on my stomach and I felt my warm breath on the pillow. I rolled over and fell of my bed and on to my acoustic guitar. I sat up again and began writing more tabs for the song. Although, at first none came to mind... "Kanynt, lunch is ready!" mom yelled. I didn't feel like eating. I just laid down on the floor again and stared up at the ceiling. Eventually, I fell asleep.

There was a knock on my door and Asuka stood at the doorway. "Y'want some lunch, kiddo?" she asked softly. I hated it when she gave me nicknames. Especially generic nicknames, like kiddo or buckaroo. She know's my name, I'm sure of it. She could just say Kanynt. She was trying to act like my mom... But in a sense... I guess, living with her, I could say she's... sorta... kinda like my mom. But that'd make my mom... Anyway, I guess I'd join them for lunch. Mom wasn't too much of the cook, but Asuka could. As I gulped down tidbits of the meal she prepared, Mom struck up a conversation about the band and its progress so far. I wasn't all to specific about my answers, I knew she was doing it just so she couldn't hear the silence. I poured myself some more water from the pitcher before I took my plates and cleared it off at the sink.

I went back to my room, I took my guitar and sat on the balcony. I began playing what I had and I let words mumble out of my mouth. "Oh, Penelope... Are you filled with air?" I sang. It sounded nice... But I hated my voice. "Swallowed oxygen... That makes you float up?" The heard the door open from behind and I immediately stopped. Mom stood at the doorway and walked towards me, leaning on the balcony, staring down at the city below.

"Y'know, back when I was a summoner, buildings were never this high," she smiled.

"Because of Sin?" I asked.

"Yeah. But it's not our problem anymore," she said with a sigh. "I like your song. Can I hear the rest?"

"I'd... I'd rather not... It's stupid," I said putting down my guitar.

"It's not stupid, Kanynt. You're writing it for someone as a gift. Gifts are anything but stupid,"

"But I haven't written lyrics,"

"Well... You wouldn't mind if you just play what you have for me, would you?" she urged on. Whatever. I was a bit embarassed playing for her. She hummed along to the tune, seeing as to how quickly she grasped on to it. She sang beautifully whenever she sang. I can look back at a couple nights where she and Asuka would break out the karaoke machine. Damn, I wouldn't be able to sleep till three. The next morning I'd find the two asleep upside down on the couch or on the kitchen counter. I would ask her to sing at least one song at Amy's prom... But... I dunno. It felt weird having your mom be there. She laughed playfully when I finished and she told me she enjoyed it. I was kinda glad... But whatever.

Later on, I took my jetcycle over to Dad's place and picked him up. We then headed off to Kat's garage for a check up on the jetcycle for the race. She came out of the building wearing a chicken hat and Piku was yelling at her to come back and get her some "chalk-wet". Dad and I had a discussion about the race and what we'll do with the prize money. Honestly, greed must be some kind of disease humans are afflicted with. But... it didn't sound bad. A new guitar, pants, hair dryer, maybe a piercing... Yeah... That'd be awesome. Anyway, Kat finished up checking up with the jetcycle and I asked her about what I should do if there were any strong vibrations. She told me it's normal and it might take a while to get used to, so I didn't worry.

I took my jetcycle around Luca so I could get a feel for the surroundings again, but I saw a large crowd of people start walking towards the Mi'ihen Highroad. I began to follow and the similar lights, sounds, and atmosphere excited me. This was going to be a race through the highroad. I met up with Dr. Pliskin and he greeted me with a hearty laugh. "My boy, I see you've arrived," he said as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.

"Where's Penelope?" I asked.

"Oh, well, Pen's out of the race. She didn't want to participate today, so she sent in a proxy to race for her," he said rubbing his chin while looking around at the race track. I was dissapointed. Who was the proxy? "Ah, here he is," he said turning to the left and pointing to someone walking towards us. He had long brown hair, a pair of glasses with a thick black borders, a tight brown coat and some skinny jeans. Like... girl pants. These were like... REALLY girl pants. Unless... They were guy pants. Then they were four sizes too small. He had a chain from his front pocket to his back and he wore black slip on shoes. He held a helmet in one hand and with the other, he held his hand out to me. "Kanynt, this is Alex," he told me as I shook Alex's hand.

He flipped his hair, revealing a nose piercing. He was chewing on some gum which he hid under his tongue while he spoke. "You're the guy who one the last race, right?" he asked. "Penelope's really mad," he said with a chuckle. So I've heard, I thought to myself. "Good race to ya, huh?" he said as he turned away and tended to his jetcycle. I went over to mine and Dad was sitting on the seat making engine noises by babbling his lips. I was amazed at how stupid he DIDN'T feel. I tapped him on the shoulder and he immediately jumped off.

"Alrighty, just go straight. And... Umm... There are three other racers this time. You shouldn't have any problem navigating between them," he said folding his arms in an attempt to look smart. I put on my helmet and Dad pat his hand on it twice. He helped me escort the jetcycle to the starting line and he wished me good luck as I turned on the engine. The doc took a firearm and shot straight into the air. I put my foot on the pedal and as soon as the blank went off, I shot straight ahead. I had a nice lead until I reached the third set of ruins. Another racer shot ahead of me as I made a soft turn to the right. He turned his head and I saw that it was Alex who had dashed in front of me. He gave me a thumbs up. That bastard. He's not winning this race. I moved to the left and gently nudged him, but he gave me a smirk that was easily visible through the helmet. He nudged me back and he went on ahead. After the turn, it was the home stretch. Rin's Travel Agency would be the finish line and Alex was in front of me. I was about to accelerate, when he merged in front of me and... Broke the tape. Second place. To him. For a second time.

The doc walked up to me. I guess he was going to console me. That's how it is with people. They'll always tell you: 'Don't worry, you'll do better next time. Just give it your all and you'll do great.' He put his arm around my shoulder and walked me over to Dad who took a seat on my jetcycle. "Don't worry, Kanynt. You'll do better next time. I swear, if you just give it your all, you'll do great," he said. I would've laughed, but the irony would kill me. He handed me the prize money. Another thousand gil. First prize was two thousand, but I didn't win it. I looked over to see Alex kissing some girl who definitely wasn't Penelope. I had my gun in the side pocket of my jetcycle. Right then and there, I would've shot him in the face. But... If I did that, I'd have to do that to Dad... Or else I'd be a hypocrite. But still... I really would've killed him. Hurting Penelope like that...

Chapter Fourteen

~We're In Too Deep~

My hot breath poured onto my pillow as I laid face down on my bed. I was still drained from the race two nights ago. It was Wednesday now and the show's on Friday. That means we need as much practice... But I'm REALLY tired. Oh well. I guess I should've work myself too hard. Asuka called me over for lunch, so I moped over to the table where I laid my face down on the table. Mom told me my hair would get on my food, but I was sure that it wouldn't. While I ate, Mom told me that she and Asuka were going on a sphere hunting run in the forests of Kilika. I told her that I'd hold down the fort, but Asuka brought up the fact that I still needed to deliver the arm to Ketso. I groaned, but Mom told me she wouldn't let me play at the formal. I knew that it was an empty threat, but... I might as well go and do it.

I hopped on my jetcycle with the box that held Ketso's automail. I headed out from where I parked my jetcycle and I made my way to Dad's place. I knew Ketso'd be home because he didn't go to school. Time travel did have it's perks. Although, I'm getting curious as to when Dad and Auntie Rikku would... I mean, how far into the future was I? How far back into the past did I go? These questions would probably be answered some time soon, but... Whatever. I'm here, I should make the best of it. I took the elevator to the top floor and followed the pathway to Dad's apartment. It was about four when I got there. Amy and her sisters should be home now. I wouldn't mind talking with them for a bit. But first, Ketso's arm.

I knocked on the door and Rikku answered. She welcomed me with a hug as I told her that I had to talk with Ketso. "Ketso's in his room. I think he's still sleeping. I haven't seen him get up yet, but if he IS still asleep, you mind waking him up for me already?" she smiled crossing her arms and putting a concerned look on her face. I told her that I would, and she thanked me. "And by the way, have Asuka and Yuna left for Kilika yet?"

"Yeah. Mom told me to tell you to meet them at the entrance of the Highroad. It's where Uncle Brother," I really hated calling that guy and uncle. Him and funny accent. "parked the airship. Paine's going to be there too," I reassured her. I didn't want her to spend time stuck between the two women who shared Dad without her permission. She waved goodbye and closed the door behind her. I walked by Dad's office and over heard him talk about Sanae's lack of participation in her math class, which was taught by Hollow (one of Dad's friends/lawyer).

"Math is stupid!" Sanae said coldly.

"But I talked with Hollow last night and he's telling me you keep quiet in class and
barely volunteer to ask or answer questions!" Dad said back. His voice showed signs that his argument was deteriorating.

"I'm doing fine!"

"O RLY1?"

"YA RLY!"

"NO WAI!"

"YES WAI!"

"Alright. It was nice talking with you honey," Dad said. She burst through the door with her face red. I just stood silent as she gave me the stare. Sanae has this particular stare which made it feel like she'd kill you at any moment. A very scary girl she was. Almost as scary as Piku the day dad forgot to get pickle chips while he went grocery shopping. She stormed off into her room and closed the door with a loud slam. Amy peeped her head out of her door. . She waved hi and dropped her glasses as I waved back. I picked them up off the floor and she thanked me. Whatever though. She didn't wear glasses normally, but she must've be pretty deep in study.

I opened Ketso's door to find him looking out the window. I still was pretty freaked out about the whole one arm thing, but I guess Asuka only wanted to help out. "Hey." I called to him. He turned his head. He had unusually spiky blonde hair. It stayed put when he turned around.

"Hey, Kanynt. What's up?" he asked. He was pretty easy going seeing as to how I almost murdered him at one point. But that's behind me now. I threw the box at him and he caught it in his arms. Arm. Hand. He opened it up and took a look inside. I stepped forward as he held it up. "Who's it from?" I told him that he didn't have to lie. He denied it, but with his voice quivering, I caught on pretty quickly. I grabbed the arm and quickly attatched it to the lying idiot. I know why he wants the arm. Amy talked with me yesterday about how excited he was to go to the school formal with Myra, but he was self-concious about the one armed thing.

I don't think Myra would care. She's a lot nicer than that.

He winced in pain as the arm attatched. He breathed heavily as he sat back on his bed. Must've taken a lot out of him. "There, it wasn't so bad, was it?" I asked mocking him.

"I'm... I'm fine. It's alright," he said as he began shaking the arm. "It feels pretty real... How do I take it off?"

"Ask Asuka," I laughed. He wasn't going to do that anytime soon. "Unless you want me to rip it off,"

"NO!" he yelled as he began pushing me with his newly attatched arm.

"You're getting very 'attatched' to the arm," I joked. Gosh, it was fun to get him mad. He closed the door and my job was done. It was time for me to head back. I stepped lightly through the house and gave Dad a hi, but he seemed to be preoccupied on his computer. I stepped into see Sanae sitting on the chair next to his desk. He was typing quickly and Sanae was pointing out mistakes in his grammar.

"No. I am NOT going to be afraid of the dark!" she said nudging him on the shoulder.

"You won't be! This is a different Sanae,"

"Yeah, one who can do backflips and shoot tea cups. That's not me!"

"Then why are you objecting to THIS Sanae?"

"Because! She's all... Whiny and girly girl-ish," she said folding her arms. "And she likes Ketso. Not that I don't like Ketso, but HE'S MY FREAKING BROTHER."

"IT'S FOR STORY DEVELOPMENT!" Gerard said back. "By the way, Kanynt. Stick around. I called Piku and Silver. Band practice is here tonight. On the roof," he said as he put on a face that made me feel nervous. It was always weird whenever I came here. But... It was cool. I guess.

He wouldn't take the freaking arm. And if he DID, he'd ONLY wear it at the Formal. >.>

j00 stink.

Anyway, I wanna see some SKUL TIEM, y'know? I liek fake school-

._.

Uncle Brother?

That sounds Incesty. o.o;

And YOU NEED TO NOT BE AN IDIOT. Ketso would be totally open and unembarassed about getting an arm so that he could dance with Myra. ._. Because it's MYRA. >.>; Maybe if it were, like, for Jazz Dancing by himself, he'd be nervous, but he doesn't do that carp, so he's not.

But it was a gud, funny chap. :D

Ketso originally lost his arm to a ladybug named Van and his floor of doom.

I'm dead serious, by the way. ._.

And then Myra and Amme gave Ketso some uber awesome automail, but then Kaze ripped it out.

.____.

And then there was this awesome-asp, three-way battle between Ketso, Kanynt, and Kaze.

I like to call them Triple K.

Anyway.

Yes. It was awesome. End explanation.

Chapter Fifteen

~Band Practice Pt. Three~

Since I really had nowhere to go, I kicked back on the couch and turned on the television. Never really had anytime to watch anything nowadays, but it wasn't like there was anything worth watching. The first thing that appeared once I turned it on was that Kun Kun show. It was really popular nowadays, especially for a puppet show. I raised the volume a bit so I could hear more of what was going on. This puppet show was laughable. Not because it was funny, but because you could see the puppet strings holding them up. "Kun-Kun!" the female dog puppet yelled. "I only did it because... Because I loved you!"

"But you also stole the priceless Matchbook Diamond! And fifty thousand gil!" Kun Kun said while blowing into a pipe from which bubbles spouted. "And you almost killed my deputy! What do you say to that Ms. Kensington!?"

"But the diamond was only for our wedding rings! And the money was for our honeymoon. We could be filthy rich!"

"I'd rather die poor than to marry a criminal!" he said pointing his finger accusingly. From behind, he pulled a pair of handcuffs and put Ms. Kensington's hands and cuffed them. This was actually some pretty good stuff. I didn't dislike it at all, but I don't think it's worth getting all worked up over. Kun Kun did look pretty cool with the pipe and the bubbles.

"This is an old episode," Shinobu said. I freaked out when she said it. I didn't even notice her sitting down next to me. She dyed her hair black. It looked weird. I never really could imagine her hair black, but, y'know, whatever.

"Nice hair?" I said. She gave me a smile as a thank you and she pulled my hand. I unwillingly followed and I passed Amy's room. The door was open and I could see Dad sitting on her bed playing the keyboard.

"Can't you play that outside, Dad?"

"But you have to teach me this part for the formal!" he whined. I didn't see that coming. I thought that he was like... Good at playing, but, this was kinda pathetic. Whatever. This was really nothing compared to many of his other faults. I asked Shinobu where are we going and she told me to follow her into her room. I've never been in her room before. Nor Sanae's. I've only been in Amy's room once, and only to wake her up last Saturday. I entered and her room was similar to Amys room. It was creepy. The furniture was different, yeah, but the colors were all... It could be something you'd expect to see when you're dizzy. All pastel colors, but mostly white to border the walls and ceiling. I sat at her desk while she jumped on her bed and began jumping up and down. She was taller than I was, so I was extremely prepared to laugh if she hit her head on the ceiling. She stopped with a loud thud on her bed. I looked back to see if she was alright.

"What am I supposed to be looking at?"

"The computer. I'm talking with Penelope. I asked her about you. Scroll up on that window to read what she said," she said pointing at the screen. I did. I read upon what happened on the latest episode of Kun Kun, what's happening at school, and there it was. Shinobu asked what she thought of me. I was afraid to click once more. Rejection, hatred, resentment, all possible answers. I did click. All she said was, "He's nice." That was it. Shinobu asked if that was it, and all Penelope answered was, "Yep." I wasn't really dissapointed. I haven't gotten to know her yet, nor has she gotten to know me... But I really had to make myself stand out at the formal so she could notice me.

Penelope was asking for an answer from Shinobu about something for the prom and I was about to type when Dad called me up to the roof. I didn't have my guitar with me, but Dad let me use his. He said he tuned it correctly, but... I had my doubts after looking at the neck with bits of tape holding it together. I put the strap on and climbed out the window and up the stairs to see Silver, sitting on his amp and feeding Hoomhaha, and Piku already hitting the drums. Dad set up the keyboard while Amy was fixing the settings for the right sounds to come out.

Band practice was normally fun, but very tiring. Dad wanted to try some harder songs, which meant heavy drums, fast guitars, and lots of screaming. Dad took the screaming parts and I took the vocals. Silver was playing so fast that he almost dropped Hoomhaha on the ground, but luckily it fell into his shirt pocket. The songs were fun and we did a lot of covers that we were sure to please the crowd at the formal. We only had a forty five minute set so we had to pick our songs carefully. Piku disagreed with a lot of our song choices, seeing as to how she had a different taste than Dad, Silver, and I, but with a bribe of many bags of Pickle chips, she sorta kinda agreed.

Practice was fun, but we had to quit early because it got dark. Dad said playing with the streetlights being the only source of light we had was going to be cool, but not when it was windy. The sea breeze wasn't a breeze at all. It knocked Piku's high hat over. She expressed her anger in a loud curse at the weather. Dad ordered pizza for dinner since Kat, Silver, Piku, and I were joining them. Besides. Dad wasn't allowed to touch the stove. We watched Kun Kun while we ate and in the middle of the re-run, Rikku came home and kissed Gerard on the cheek as he held her gently in his arms. It was nice to see them together sometimes. I've always felt sorry for Rikku, but maybe... I was the one to pity.

I sat on the couch with everyone else and turned my head to see Rikku and Gerard slumping over the kitchen table examining a sphere that she had found. They discussed what the context was, where it was happening, many other things. Watching them together felt nice. It was like nothing was wrong. By just looking at them smile and laugh you couldn't help but doubt Dad's debauchery.

I stayed awhile after Dinner finished and Dad escorted all of us back to where we belonged. Silver stayed in an apartment a few floors below Dad did. Kat and Piku went back to the garage and Dad took me to the entrance of my place. He said that Rikku was waiting for him at home so he gave me a wave goodbye. He was cool sometimes. I guess. I went up and caught Asuka smoking again. I warned her that it wasn't good for her health, but she assured me that she only smoked one every night. Still... She didn't seem like she deserved to die early. I guess. Well, maybe she did. But maybe not.

Mom was sitting down on the couch in her pajamas reading a magazine. I guess the new issue of L came in. L was a fashion magazine. Mom wasn't one to be considered a fashionista, but after the Leblanc Syndicate disbanded, Leblanc spent her time designing clothes instead of schemes to get rich quick. Mom and Leblanc kept in touch normally. I even met her once. She had the most unpleasant laugh. I couldn't stand it. But she was pretty normal. I just wish she wouldn't dress so... Cold. Same could be said to Mom and Rikku. I kissed her goodnight and went straight to my room. I didn't bother to turn on the lights because I knew I was just going to fall asleep. I opened the window to let the breeze in. I hated laying down in bed when it was hot at night. It made everything uncomfortable. Although, I wake up fine in the morning. I guess it wasn't so bad.
