In the $500 range I would probably just go for the Nexus 10. Just to have Android instead of iOS.

Speak of the devil...

Google to sell second-gen Nexus 7 tablet from July: sources | Reuters

Wait, what's this about ads? Do ads pop up on the Nexus 7's OS or something?

I don't think they'll do that... at least im hoping. (i hated that phase of android were developers thought it was cool to put ads in the notification bar.)

I think it will be too soon for me to buy a new Nexus 7 being that i have had mine only since Christmas and it works like a dream.

iOS 7 looks like it was designed by a 14 year old girl. iOS has always been sleek and sexy and 7 has taken that away by using fluorescent, neon, inverted colors. It now looks like a mesh of Windows/Android.

Okay, so I may or may not be getting a Samsung Galaxy S4 tomorrow. From what I've heard, the damn thing comes preloaded with a bunch of bloatware that eats up about 50% of the storage space. I heard you can circumvent this by rooting the phone, but I've never done it. I'm confused as to how it works. Any help would be much appreciated. I have T-Mobile.

Pardon me for sounding like a noob, but I don't see how Victor's thread is useful. It hasn't been updated in over 2 years and the post clearly states it is out dated.

Once I've rooted my phone, how do I go about deleting bloatware?

As for ROMs, why would one want to install a ROM? What are the benefits?

The core concepts still apply just read it

^^This answers your first statement^^

As for the rest
if all you want to do is Remove Bloatware this should help
[SCRIPT] TrulyClean v1.6 - Remove all crappy stuff in no-time! - xda-developers

You can think of ROMs as different OSs that are based on either
- Manufacturer Skins (Like HTC Sense, and Samsung's Touch Wiz)
- AOSP which is based of google's stock UI (which is normally found of NEXUS devices and now Google Play Editions Phones)
- and Finally we have the completely custom ROMs that are built from the ground up (but are lightly based of AOSP, for example MIUI)

Benefits
- keep root access
- Custom UIs
- Features that aren't readily available on your device
- No bloatware
- In some cases better performance
- In some cases better battery life
- Overclocking
- Speedy Updates (depends on the developers)

So Google announced a new Nexus 7.

Google Debuts High-Resolution Nexus 7 Tablet - IGN

My mom's been nagging my dad to get one for her and I might get one if she is.

Think I'm going to upgrade the one i have.
The Snapdragon S4 Pro processor is way better then the NVidia Tegra 3 found in the original one that i have.
plus you get
- 1080p display
- LTE if you spring extra cash
- Virtual surround sound
- 5mp rear facing camera with HD recording...

I think it is well worth the upgrade overall.

Haven't seen any yet. Technically the device isn't supposed to launch till Tuesday so case manufacturers haven't really displayed any. Pretty sure by Friday there will be a pretty good one available. Google is Advertising a pretty cool sleeve its a bit overpriced and it just says coming soon but it does look neat... Not really a traditional case though...
