Socialized medicine isn't the real problem, it's only a stepping stone to what those afraid of fascism and communism believe to be further forced socialization of a country whose ideals center upon individuality and the freedom to choose the progression of one's life. Propaganda has led us to believe that anyone else being able to make decisions for us is evil, and will inevitably lead to us being oppressed and forced into what would essentially be a police state.

Base fear of having our freedoms stripped away, we call ourselves the land of the free, but in all honesty, we are the land of the fearful and paranoid.

Also, rich people are well aware that socialization, in any form, promotes equality of financial state, closing the income gap in the country, and the rich most certainly do NOT want to get poorer, considering that many of the impoverished citizens of the world are that way because they are unwilling to grasp at the opportunities offered to them. The lottery is a perfect example of this. Those people who play the lottery often and repeatedly are basically shouting to the world that they can not or will not work hard to earn their wealth, they want it fast, easy, and on the cheap.

I've worked my ass of to get to where I am in my life, and while I don't count myself among those opposed to general socialization, I am absolutely opposed to having my earning potential stripped down to accommodate someone who is satisfied with minimum wage but still wants to be able to afford an iPad. God damn Apple.

Since we're talking about many, many of the rich people don't support the abolish of Social Classes because they don't want to lose their superior and comfortable lifestyle. I can attest to some people that have actually fought for their pleasantries, but I can also attest to those that ruin country politics by becoming the "friend" of X politician and they bend the laws to their favor with contracts and stuff. Other than those politician friends, there's the megacorporations (such as Walgreens and Walmart). While Uncle Sam lets them monopolize the economy, they're becoming richer and richer, without caring over those that need. Bill Gates was the first (now second) most richest man IN THE DAMN WORLD! Even as he kept spending and spending to the needed, he kept wining and wining! Why can't entities like Walmart do that? Because of avarice! Albeit you raise a valid point, that lazy people just damages the economy, what about the rich parasites? What about the petroleum loving Republicans?

In summation;
Both the lazy poor and the value-less rich damage the economy.

At least you can try and educate the lazy poor and instigate them into becoming something better. =/

Link me to your source, please. My dad plays the local lottery partially and the electronic one every day. He's a man that loves to work and believes what he earns is what he deserves (what else can he do? He's a man with no study, little money and is a janitor). Albeit being a floorcleaner, he does his job with pride and is an useful and flexible employee wherever he is. To a point, your lottery point is mute, but guess what? Our Governor, a Republican wannabe, a millionaire man married to a millionaire woman, both became richer when they entered the Prime Executive and First Lady posts, plays the lottery. "Millionaire" and "rich", keep tight of these adjectives and remember what you said about the lottery; does that also make rich people like what the lottery "states"? And why, in the name of hell, would an already rich person, want with more money? To maintain their comfortable lifestyle? For what? Clothes are meant to protect people from weather (thick clothing from cold, light clothes from heat, etc.). These are the type of people that buy $1,600.00+ in terms of hats, shirts, pants, shoes, socks, undergarments, etc. Why the exact price? Because, last time I checked, an ounce of gold, AN OUNCE OF GOLD, cost 1,600 dollars. Why, in the name of hell, a shirt with the name Banana Republic, Gucci, or however the hell you spell the name of those random idiots that don't deserve the fame and glory they get, can cost more than an ounce of gold? Gold, something that determines the economy, what drove the Spanish, English and other empires to colonize the world, be less valuable than a bottle of water with aroma (perfume) with the name Giorgio Armani or Carolina Herrera? For God's sake, perfume shouldn't even exist anymore! The French invented perfume because showers didn't exist by then and the stench of sweat can drive anyone crazy! Do we need that nowadays? Nope. So why pay for it?

Being a practical person is more important than feeling comfortable. =/

Deal with it. And when I say that, pass from the stage of indignation to action. My local school doesn't offer Summer courses to those who fail a grade because, mysteriously, those students that earned an F during the whole school year got an A in less than a month. Honor Roll students took an eye to this and opposed it, presenting their valid points and, alas, that shit got abolished.

In summation;
If something is against the rules, laws, morality, oppose it.

Tomorrow is the Federal-Imperial Republic of the United States of America's independence day. Celebrate it, but remember; you guys didn't become one of the world's superpower by staying ashamed of what you were; an oppressed colony. You fought for what you are now.

Again, if you're against anyone being lazy and not taking advantage of their opportunities, fight for it like the students at my school did.

It was an explanation of the reasoning behind the hatred of socialism, not a commendation of those same ideals.

Anecdotal evidence is inadmissible, as always, when detecting correlated or case-research studies.
Just because you can come up with even ten examples of hard working people taking a chance at a lucky break does not make the simple and obvious truth any less true.

Carnegie Mellon University study.
Poverty leads to playing lottery, study says - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Opportunities for advancement abound in a first-world society. You say your father is limited by his education, and yet there are innumerable ways to advance your education, even for free, a piece of socialized progress, but available nonetheless. I won't condemn him for doing his job, someone is going to have to do it, and if he can make it on that wage I'll applaud him for it. But, the majority of people who regularly play the lottery can not reasonably afford to do so as often.

While I certainly do not consider myself a conservative, I can at least understand the reasoning supporting it. We can not fall into such extremely opposite groups and expect anything real to be accomplished.

The rest of your argument is irrelevant, so to be fair, that is why I've ignored it. It's widely held that the rich in any country spend ridiculous amounts of money on ludicrous purchases, that is not even contestable.

Deal with it. And when I say that, pass from the stage of indignation to action. My local school doesn't offer Summer courses to those who fail a grade because, mysteriously, those students that earned an F during the whole school year got an A in less than a month. I don't have to deal with it, because it isn't happening, it is fought at every turn. I make quite a comfortable living, and contribute to taxes in excess of what is asked of me because I DO care about the unfortunate in society, and the bad lot of many people as they've been handed in this recession and global depression. However, if someone ever tells me I MUST do so, I will oppose it with every step, because it is the responsibility of the wealthy to ensure the continued prosperity of a nation, not the right of the impoverished and the responsibility of the government. Too many times have I seen people abusing social systems, students taking financial aid then dropping out of school after they get their refund check, doing so semester after semester. Any social system in place should be stringent and regulated heavily to ensure proper attribution and use. If we're going to give power to a governing body, it should at least have some oversight.

Various individuals hate Socialism for a reason. We're all different minds, or how the saying goes Each mind is a world.. What you presented was one of the reasons, so I took it like I did. My bad. :v

Just because you can come up with even ten examples of hard working people taking a chance at a lucky break does not make the simple and obvious truth any less true.
Oh, pfft. I think everyone or the majority of people, at some point of their life, have had to think of wining easy money some way. Some of them may later value the benefits of work.

I was going to post a defensive statement, but I am not going to justify his unimportant laziness. :> He's happy with the life he lives, unlike lazies which don't consider whether or not they're happy. :v

I've personally never seen Conservatism in action, just the extreme, so I can't say. Which is like Socialism; people have only seen the extreme. =/

I just mentioned the proper mechanism to take action towards these sort of problems, nothing much. :V And the problem here is people's morality. I think it's an US thing that people remember their rights, but forget their duties. :v

Absolutely. It isn't laziness if you're content and happy, it's complacency.

Actually, each side shows action all the time, but it's fueled by chaos and ridiculousness and no one can ever tell the difference.

A revolution is coming. I can't say when or where, but it's soon. Be ready. @_@

I hear people say and talk about this shit sometimes. 1st-If its the right wing we're talking about revolting and trying to seize power, then no thanks I don't want more of your idiot asses you're political party is already bad enough I'd hate to see what you'd be like as a rebel group 2nd- Can't happen, won't happen because it is no longer even possible to do so. Our military and government is too big, too powerful, and too much in control to where It'd be practically impossible. Our law enforcement and military would put and end to it right away before it could even get anywhere, really.

But that's not to say that we should not change our ways because we should, it is obvious that all our actions have consequences. This is where our actions have led us, people shouldn't be too surprised since we've been screwing ourselves over for decades.

Uh... The Occupy propaganda was the same as the French Revolution; the opressed realized they were bigger in numbers than the mastermind and his tools. If the Government's too powerful, then paralyze it. Everyone is afflicted at how the US is falling, in and out of the Government. If soldiers/police attack then remind them who their bosses are and/or that their jobs will be assured after they take down the tyrants. But other than that, basically, what paralyzes revolutions nowadays is to bribe employees if they choose to take the good side by stripping them of their post.

/edit

Another point, Egiptian authorities weren't afraid of losing their jobs. :V If you lose it, look for another one inside or outside your country.

So it is unconsitutional for government to force people to buy health care but it is consitutional to force people to pay a tax to support it. Is that what its telling us or am im missing something?

depends on if it's a direct, unapportioned tax.

Well despite Egypt's newly, democratically elected leader it is a country that is still controlled by the military. Some may not have been afraid because they knew that they personally would not have too big of repercussions and that if they did just remove themselves they could always just reoccupy their previous role once things settle. While it is true that things that are up high will fall harder and faster, it is also true sometimes that once you're high up it is kinda hard to fall. Why do you think we don't ever see our leaders, or just people with authority get it trouble? Its because they have money and resources and because they are at the top and know people that are also up there who will preserve them.

I get what you're saying but the reality is that it would get snuffed out asap by law enforcement and military. Even if morals played in because it got to be a big thing, you'd be shocked to see how many troops and members would stay behind so that they can keep their job, get money or more of it, and so they don't have negative repercussions afterwards; Oh you don't wanna do this mission because it goes against your morals? Too bad you can just get a dishonorable discharge then. I'd predict at least half of all troops and members to stay behind with the government, their leaders.

After World War I all the troops and members protested for days right outside and on the White House property because the US government didn't/couldn't pay them. Eventually the government had the military force end it all.

...Are you being serious? Because I can't tell, and if there is going to be one, hope it works, unlike Occupy. =/

I am being deadly serious. I don't have any definite insider information or anything, but a single look at history, and a reflection onto our present, has all signs pointing to a major upheaval in the near future, the level of discontent in this country is staggering, and laws are being passed left and right to cut us off at the pass. No one has yet gathered the level of courage and ire required to strike the first blow, but it's only getting worse.

Also, revolution is far more viable in this country than you might believe, it is in fact the very same low-level brainwashing that has led you to believe that is impossible and can not be done. All success would require is an apt plan, and we're not exactly a bunch of simpering idiots with no guns.

The largest two armies in the world are China, and the US militia force. The average citizens of this country have far superior firepower combined than the military, assuming all soldiers are unwilling to defect and defend their country over their corrupt leaders. It's quite an easy choice.

The only reason revolution has not taken place is the illusion that we have some ability to control who runs our country, so no evil or malignant leader can rule for more than four years. However, as I said this is an illusion, our candidates are chosen for us and stacked before like pre-approved beauty pageant contestant, and all in all they are just tools "for the machine". This may sound like radical stoner conspiracy theories, but believe me I reject that notion. It's all plain, clear common knowledge.

Stuffed in a sack and being thrown through a magic
I really hope there isn't another Civil War. The last thing America needs is brothers killing brothers. :(
All in all, I'm okay with this being passed because it'll help out many people. Like, I know that if there was a woman with breast cancer who couldn't afford treatment before, she can now and her life will be saved. Or some old man with heart troubles can get a pacemaker now or even see a doctor about it without having to hand over his bank account just by walking in the door.
The goal of this health care is good. I definitely support everyone getting the care they need. I just hope some crazy future government doesn't twist it into something bad fifty years or so from now. Democrat or Republican or Independent, I don't really trust politicians. And that's my problem with the upcoming election; I don't like Romney or Obama. I don't think that either of them should be running the country.
Anyways, in response to AlaudeDrenxta above, since you think there'll be a revolution, do you also think that some states will try to secede from the US again? I doubt it would be split North and South again.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with me being brainwashed. This has to do with how you Americans react to corruption at your nation. I don't see ANYONE passing from the stage of indignation to action. There have been a few cases of action, but small. This is a nationwide problem, not local. =/

calm yourself.

yes, there is a great deal of separation in the country, but i don't think we're stupid enough to get into another Civil War, especially over something like healthcare. and i think that if that was honestly the case, we would hopefully be able to fix it before anything violent happened.

but if some serious shit did, for whatever reason, end up going down, i'd be so fucking ashamed to be an american.

I don't think it'd be a civil war like last time where there was the south vs north, more so it's be like a French Revolution in which the current government and its members are removed. But you do hear those redneck racist folk always talking about how the south will rise again.

and what a dark day that will be.
Which one? Unpleasant sure but not dark, bro that'd be some light shinning in if we did away with our corrupt ass leaders, the corrupt people with authority, and one sided polices.

A current government paradigm throw down I'm game for but not 'a south uprising'.
