According to some magazine scans fresh from the Land of the Rising Sun, some new details for Square Enix's upcoming Nintendo DS title have been released.
First, the two main characters' full names, Neku Sakuraba and Shiki Misaki, have emerged.
Some new plot details are also available to tantilize the fans. "It's a Wonderul World" tells the story of Neku, a boy able to read the hearts and minds of others... a power he one day come to realize during his daily life in Shibuya. Shortly afterwards, a mysterious organization called the "Shinigami" demands he complete a task for them. Should he fail, Neku's entire existance will be erased. What's more, he has a mere seven days to complete his mission.
Gameplay-wise, this new title appears to make extensive use of the DS's touchscreen. You can use it to tap into people's minds and collect information, as well as for battle.
Battles take place on both screens. The object is to use the arrows on the top screen to create cards, which can, in turn, be used to perform special moves and combos. During boss battles, your actions on the top screen directly impacts what is happening on the bottom screen. The manner in which you use you stylus on the touchscreen can also alter attacks.
Neku and Shiki each have their own abilities, which they can use in combination to create more powerful attacks.
It's a Wonderful World is scheduled for a tentative Winter 2006 release in Japan. No details for a U.S. release have been announced.
