You folks think I'm confused for saying this, but I mean it. No Joke! I really think Kairi should have been the main star of the KH series. Why? Let me explain:
- She is the only one of the main trio that had a backstory. She lost her memories, has no idea where she comes from, and doesn't have a clue who she really is. She is the most interesting-written one of the original trio.
- She was born in Radiant Garden, one of the most important locations in the KH series.
She is one of the seven Princesses of Hearts and the key to Kingdom Hearts.
- She is a princess, an official one, and you guys know how much Disney loves to market them.
- She is the first one of the main trio that accounted the Heartless, the main enemy group of the KH series.
- And lastly, she has a bigger beef with Xehanort, the main villain of the series. He destroyed her original homeworld, maybe even was responsible for Kairi losing her family, and she plays an important role for Xehanort to open the door to KH.
I get why Square Enix and Disney decided to make a boy the main hero since it is, after all, a SE game, and they are known for their male protagonist. Plus, the game would have most likely flopped immensely, if they would have made a girl the main character. Yeah, back then a girl protagonist would have still a big issue for some folks. But still, if really Sora would have been the main character from the start, she should have gotten all this important background. Everything Kairi is now is just a price for Sora and nothing else, and it is still very unsettling if you think of it, since she had much more effort put into her story than SE and Disney did with Sora.
