don't ever expect your ability to use your tablet to exceed your ability to use basic traditional media. My pen/pencil sketches have always been infinitely stronger when I'm using traditional media over digital. That said, don't let that stop you because it doesn't mean you can't become proficient at using the tablet.
And yeah, a lot of the adjustments people have to make with tablets is looking at their monitor and not at the tablet (unless you have a Cintiq, then diddly you). But there's also friction levels and angle. While tablets try to emulate that shit, it's still different enough that it'll diddly you up.
