Spoiler ShowName:
Kivuli La’Nell Shujaa
Age:
18
Sex:
Female
Species:
Leijonni
Appearance:
Typical of Leijonni females, Kivuli is more slender than the males of her species, but also longer or taller when standing upright. She bears the full lionesque appearance of her species, including a full coat of tawny-gold hair that bleaches to white as it reaches her chest and stomach. More unusually, a rare type of melanism has freckled her coat with dark-hued rosettes, giving her the name Kivuli, which means “shadow” in the Leijonni language. Despite this abnormality, Kivuli disdains the human habit of clothing taken up by some of the Leijonni living in the cities.
Elemental Alignment:
Darkness (see below)
History:
Born into the Clan Shujaa (La’Nell Shujaa), one of the oldest and proudest tribes of the Leijonni peoples, Kivuli was taught from an early age the pride of her race. In a society that celebrated masculine strength in its warriors and leaders, females were nonetheless valued highly according to their capabilities in hunting, gathering, or healing. Kivuli was a hunter.
From the days when she was barely past cubhood, Kivuli accompanied the other females on the hunt, and quickly proved herself by her ability to draw almost to the toes of her prey without detection. The older hunters began to comment on the other significance of her name, Kivuli being another word for “ghost,” but they all praised her highly and predicted confidently that she would be the next master of the hunt at a young age.
It wasn’t until Kivuli reached adolescence, around 10 years of age, that the true cause and import of her abilities became known. At this age, when most Leijonni are beginning to manifest their magickal powers more overtly, it was discovered that Kivuli was aligned with the element of darkness.
Leijonni magick traditionally manifests itself as light. There are occasional instances of a Leijonni child discovering an affinity to wind or fire, and these aren’t looked down upon, but light embodies all the values the Leijonni hold most dear: courage, forthrightness, strength, purity. A Leijonni aligned with the element of darkness was—unthinkable.
Kivuli became an outcast, ostracized from her family and clan. They did not exile her from the grasslands or strip her of her clan name, Leijonni custom forbidding this in the absence of an actual crime, but she lived on the outskirts of society and was neither addressed nor spoken of. She would never be master of the hunt, nor would she have a place in her clan, nor a mate nor cubs. She was a pariah.
For nearly eight years she has lived in this way, hunting on her own and fending for herself. She will not compete with the other hunters for game, both as a point of pride and self-preservation, so she must roam further to find her sustenance. But she always comes back to the clan grounds by nightfall, continuing her solitary existence at its periphery. She still considers herself, above and in spite of everything, a Leijonni of Clan Shujaa.
Magicks:
Kivuli manifests a unique brand of synergistic magick: whereby, when her body is in motion, it becomes almost impossible to follow with the naked eye. You may spot a flick of a tail here, or a dark rosette there, but you will not be able to connect these into a definite shape until her claws and teeth are upon you. This coupled with the unique markings on her fur make her a very efficient hunter and stalker. Since late adolescence, when her powers matured, Kivuli has been able to produce a similar effect while remaining still by concentrating carefully on herself and her surroundings.
Personality:
Kivuli has lived alone for the past eight years; this has forged a personality that is independent, wary, taciturn, yet at the same time desperate for social contact. She is not as immediately trusting as many of the Leijonni, but holds similarly to them that trust, once given, is not lightly broken.
In spite of her outcast position, she is still fiercely proud of her race and clan. She will bear no insult to either, and is as willing as any warrior to lay down her life in their service.
Miscellaneous:
The Shujaa Clan was one of the most strident in pushing for the removal of King Erebos Xentroe when it was revealed that he had mated with a human female. More than custom or law, their deeply held pride and xenophobia could not accept what they saw as a betrayal of blood. Kivuli shares this contempt of the former King, and views the mating of a Leijonni and a human as a stain upon the history of her species.
On another note, sometime during the next few days, I'm going to try to get the "Nightfall Lexicon" up, which will essentially be a cataloged record of Nightfall related history, lore, locations, etc. to use for reference. It will be updated periodically by myself and Ordeith (when given the time) with information directly concerning "The Warlock," but will eventually contain information concerning the entirety of the Nightfall world as relevant stories are posted.
It will definitely, as a start, contain a detailed history of Morcado up to this point in history, and may also contain a general overview of the Gods' War and possibly information pertaining Venelatria, though it depends on the amount of free time we have to put toward it.
Well I wasn't entirely clear on this point. The end of your history reads as follows:Hidden...Irritum is not King of the Leijonni. Re-read my history and please edit your miscellaneous information accordingly. I have no idea how you managed to get things completely backward.
What I took from this is that Irritum, through his triumph in the Trial of Kings, by law and custom became the King of Leijonni, though the Leijonni could not accept him as king because of his mixed birth. I wasn't sure how to reconcile these two conflicting ideas. My own interpretation therefore was that the Leijonni, not being the type to lightly throw away their own laws and customs (as evidenced earlier in the exile of King Erebos), must at least symbolically recognize Irritum as the king even if they resent and resist his rule.Irritum Le'Nell Hsivat said:Within a month's time of obtaining the Legendary staff from the summit, Irritum returned to The Golden Colosseum for the Trial of Kings, knowing the laws upheld by the Leijonni Council. His use of Azure Luminous coupled with Progonoskes gave him victory in each trail leading up to the final battle. Irritum came out on top, technically becoming the new King of Leijonni. This caused an uproar among the people and the council. The pride of the Leijonni wouldn't allow Irritum to become the king as he wasn't a Leijonni. He was the child of the prophecy however and he was given a rare implant that increases the distribution of magic.
This was my rough assumption, or at least that the human language was used as a lingua franca between races while they might speak their own language amongst themselves. Speaking of language, did you get the term "Leijonni" from the Finnish word "Leijona" meaning "Lion"? ("Sotilas," Kivuli's original clan name, I took from Finnish on this assumption)Omnichaos said:The human language is the most used language in the world--part to the wide spread humans and part to the cultural impact of Venelatria--to the point that every race has adopted it as their primary language, while their natural tongue is only used in ceremonial cases. The only other language with this much sway is the vampiric language, which I hope to showcase a bit considering Morcado's alliance with Dongothvarn during the late Gods' War.
