I was mad about that too, from a Kairi fan's perspective, but there are a few compensations:
A) My guess right now, and this is based off of what I know from Coded and Days, not so much BBS, but my guess is that the Reconnect journey is supposed to be a personal one for Sora, when he basically sets everything right with the people connected to him, and this will eventually lead to the events for KH3. If this is true and Riku and Kairi are aware of that, this would explain Kairi's sudden "regression." She's not coming because it's really something personal that Sora has to do alone, that she and Riku CAN'T really be a part of.
B) I hate to bash [I]Twilight[/I] again because I have a sort of love-hate relationship with the series, but when I watched that final scene again, I couldn't help but think, "Well, she's stepping aside, but [I]thank heavens[/I] she's not causing a scene and positively clinging to poor Sora like a certain vampire-lover..." See, there's this one moment in [I]Eclipse[/I] when Edward is supposed to leave Bella in a hidden cave while he goes to fight alongside his family and their temporary werewolf allies, protecting HER from enemy vampires. And even though she berates herself for being so selfish, she puts him through a guilt trip about the last time he left her and how she can't bear it if he does it again. Even though this is an entirely different scenario, and it's arguably putting his family in danger because it's one less vampire helping them, does she care? Not enough to not make him stay with her.
Kairi, at least, knows her place. She understands that Sora's a hero, and when duty calls, duty calls. She doesn't selfishly keep him for herself; she allows him to go out looking for Riku or reconnect with himself or whatever it is that he has to do. She just wants him to be safe, and when Saix starts trying to use her as bait, that's when she puts her foot down. She wants to help because she wants the boys to be safe and doesn't like that she has to wait for them like a good little girl, but at least she doesn't give Sora grief over it.
As for Sora, well, that's up to you and how you choose to look at it. I do love SoNami as well, so I can't hold that against you!!
