[Weirdly] tired thinking about RAX TA having protagonism again

It's weird to me how I feel about them so I will think as I write.

Before KH3 released, I used to have SO MUCH HOPE AND HYPE about all them returning!!! I really wanted to see their lifes again and know whats' about after them being saved. And when they did return in kh3 I felt really happy and satisfied (after 2nd playthrough lol. cuz the first I hated it so much).
But yeah that was that. And now I really don't like the thought of them returning for more protagonism. I don't feel hyped at all thinking about playing with any of these characters anymore. They had their time to shine and they did in their games, and that's awesome, I loved it back then. But now, after seeing them RESSURRECT and/or PUT INTO PUPPETS, and after playing as them in Remind, I feel like everything is fine and I just don't need them with so much focus anymore.

And something in me says that what helps this line of though is that Union X has a really diverse and fun cast, I'd love to play as Ephemer and Skuld! (not marluxia because he's a boss for me and forever will be. not brain cuz he's too npc vibes to ignore)

Honestly I feel like stories from RAX TA are done and gone, and that's okay to stick protagonism with those old characters if they are interesting enough and drags my interest once again in a new story arc. Is just that, I really like > NEW < things. so let me reiterate a previous statement: They had their time to shine and they did in their games, and that's okay, I loved it back then because it was something NEW, fresh, an unknown ground with new flashy attacks and animations, all this first-time encounters in disney worlds, and a different perspective on other characters than Sora/Riku!

Side games were always the games that dragged most of my curiosity, because they were really... new.
Now I understand. I just want someone new to play as. Kairi was really brief so it doesn't count... but I liked her moveset anyway.

Anyways...
How do you feel/think future protagonists in the franchise (in this case protagonism = being playable) ?

Big disagree on Roxas. He's the body of Sora, surely he has thoughts and opinions and could even fill in for a more serious setting than Sora could since KH isn't big on fundamentally changing a character's traits.

TAV need to open up a Keyblade School to honor their master. Couldn't care less about Axel, and Xion doesn't deserve to exist

Even biggiester disagreement on Roxas. He was really important back then for being part of Sora but he is his own person now after kh3 and could just be a character that appears again sometimes, and just because he is a keyblade wielder. I mean, what reasons do we have for playing as Roxas as of now (or ever) again? The only situation I see is if EVERYONE DIES EXCEPT HIM he is about to die.

I think TAV have potential for more since we still don't know much them, and Ven has all the UX stuff ongoing that may or may not amount to anything in the next mainline installment. But given that he's one of the few characters that actually has history with next saga's opposing forces, I feel like he pretty much has to be there.

RAX on the other hand I consider pretty much complete as characters and don't need further involvement in the series.

I do like them as characters, though. And I would certainly love for them to jump in here and there but there isn't a whole lot of pull for me to want to play a game centered around them.

Their story was a dramatic attempt for them to find meaning in their existence. And they found it in each other. Job done. Now they don't really have much to go for other than trying to assist Isa in finding Subject X. They honestly don't really have any reason to continue studying using the Keyblade in any capacity either. None of them are master level, have indicated that they want to BE master level and poor Xion doesn't even have her own unique Keyblade design. And I doubt Roxas would be too happy being roped into things JUST because "he's Sora's Nobody." He spent quite a bit of time wanting to be his own person and not just following along in Sora's shadow.

I would say the same about TAV in that the only real ties that their group has towards future plot points is whatever is going on/went on with Ven. However, the simple fact that their origins are far less fleshed out, and Aqua is being relied on as a Master and Terra being seen as a sort of...quasi mentor figure for Riku (ish. At the very least they can relate to each other) lends them far more relevance to the main cast in terms of utility.

There is the wildcard of Namine, though. If there was a game structured around Namine where we had to play as her in some way (and as a result RAX were directly involved) I would be hyped.

The only reason why these characters felt so limiting is because their conflicts were tied to Xehanort. Terra, Ventus and Aqua were tied to Master Xehanort whilst Roxas, Axel and Xion's were tied to Xemnas.

Now that we're moving past the Xehanort saga and into new narrative terriority, every original character has their time to shine because they'll be overcoming new conflicts. I couldn't be more excited to see how the familiar cast grows now that their initial purposes have been completed.

Lea's my favorite character so I'm cool with him getting more focus. However I'm ok with Roxas and Xion getting benched for the foreseeable future.

I'm open to more TAV as they are in an interesting spot in their lives.

King Roxas, Mama Xion, and Queen Aqua I will gladly take back in the spotlight as main playable characters. The rest? Meh. Especially Terra. I just finished playing BbS again using Terra and there's really not much you can do with him since he was made to: 1) explain Xehanort's body, 2) serve as a reflection for Riku's character and 3) be inspiration for Aqua's character while in the Realm of Darkness. Terra is probably the only character in the series whose sole purpose is a prop that advances other characters. Even if you try to build off the little that he had - succumbing to darkness, we've seen that play out with Riku already AND Terra has obviously learned from it, so now what?

My only real opinion is if Unchained was still KHUX's name and we hadn't seen Ven yet, people would be saying that there wasn't anything interesting to take Ven to either. I'm fine with these characters getting benched, but I also don't think it's really set in stone that they couldn't be given fun arcs going forward. Terra and Aqua in particular have more potential for future stories than Riku does, and we aren't done with Riku.

This thread is not about these characters being 'involved' or not, it's about their PROTAGONISM. About BEING PLAYABLE CHARACTERS.

Yeah, there is a lot of loose threads for a lot of characters, but you don't need to play as them or have a game around them to close those. A playable SECTION with any of them, or some cutscenes would do the work of some closure.

Well, that's what I mean. My criticism was more for anyone who felt that the characters had no reason to be included period, let alone to be playable in the future.

This thread is not about these characters being 'involved' or not, it's about their PROTAGONISM. About BEING PLAYABLE CHARACTERS.

If Nomura decided that any of the members from the Wayfinder Trio or Seasalt Trio should be playable again then there's clearly enough narrative material to justify that decision. We're in uncharted territory right now, it's silly to prematurely assume that a certain character's arc is over just because the Xehanort saga is over.

I mean, if any of TAV/RAX will be playable in the future, it's gonna be roxas and aqua. because they're already ready which saves them time of making ventus/terra and xion/axel from scratch.

RAX is my favourite trio in the franchise and as much as l like the characters I would rather they not be playable. Roxas and Xion arc has been resolved already and given what we know so far about the new story and characters any attempt to make them playable in future games would seem forced to me and would come across as fan service in my opinion unless given plot relevance again. The only time I would want to see them in battle is if Axel has a small playable segment in the story as part of the subject x storyline and they are the party members, other than that I would rather they just stick to making appearances in cutscenes when needed. Although I wouldn’t mind a small playable segment with Axel I would rather they don’t make a full game where he’s the main character as I feel that would take away from characters who have bigger relevance to the story such as Ventus or any of the union leaders. Ventus is the only member of the birth by sleep trio I would want to be playable as he’s going to be important to the arc and has a lot of connections to important characters thanks to union x. My opinion on Terra and Aqua being playable is the exact same thing I wrote about Roxas and Xion earlier.

If we are talking playable characters, then Kairi, Axel, Xion, and Terra would be the top of my list. I love Roxas, and I will always enjoy being able to play as my boi. That said the four I just named either have never been truly playable (Axel, Xion) or only playable for one game and I want more (Kairi, Terra) so I would put them higher of a desire to play then characters who are pretty common that being Roxas, Aqua, and Riku.

I've itched for playable Xion and Terra since the Data Organization. Let me play as these characters with those insanely cool moves. Mix in Terranort and LW's moveset for playable Terra, and I am sold forever on him. Xion could be super unique, because she copies other powers. Make that customizable and we have a OP playable character. Axel always seemed like a guy who could be fun to play as as a elemental fighter. Do I even have to go over Kairi and her great moveset? As far as Ventus goes, I wouldn't mind him playable either, it's just move wise I never found him as impressive as the other characters I just named, at least not without teaming with Aqua. But I wouldn't be opposed to playing as him.

As for the plot? I think @Antifa Lockhart and @Alpha Baymax already covered it. We're in new territory and nobody knows what Nomura is planning. It's impossible to determine who has a role and who doesn't in this new saga beyond personal bias.

I had an idea/vision of a game around Xion copying powers from other people that is just gold gameplay for me to ignore that justifying a game with her playable all the time.
They could go all the -Mario Odyssey- and find a fun way to make her copy some enemie's powers for attacking, magicking, and spelling! I don't even love her outside of Days, but can you even imagine ???

Don't worry. RAX and TAV will be background/supporting characters from here on out so they won't be main protagonists any further. Even Ventus' ties to the ancient past won't land him a main protagonist status. Phase 2 is gearing with Sora and Riku going with Yozora and his pals. So Yozora, Magia, Aegis, Nameless Star and whoever appears on

will be the ones who will get focused on more besides the Lost Masters. Also Kairi will never catch up to Sora and Riku no matter what she does. That's just reality.

So OP you don't have to worry. Next chess game will have Sora, Riku, Mickey, Yozora, Magia, Aegis and Nameless Star vs. The Lost Masters. Of course Donald and Goofy will always be in the mix because they're Sora's trusted companions.

Everyone else? Lol. They'll be lucky if they get to appear when the big battle happens. Sora and Riku could use some cheerleaders.
