I do agree with Yannis' observation. Gold, silver, bronze. Plus, if we look at the armor factor, Terra's entire left arm is covered, only Ven's shoulder is covered, but Aqua's minor official art shows nothing, although if you look through Terra's Keyblade handle you can see something black that seems to be placed on her arm...
Maybe the color, size, and armor do symbolize their calibur as warriors/students.

Everyone is saying that its VAT's masters emblem... but I personally think that its just ranking system. I dunno if its really special or not... but... think about it. Ven's zipper is silver. Terra's belt is gold. We haven't seen any scans of Aqua and in the "Future of KH" picture we can hardly see her... but I believe that somewhere she has that symbol, but bronze. So... maybe their master doesn't have to have that. I think that Square made us think that so that we don't figure it out

I have no proof of Aqua's symbol being bronze... or even proof of the emblem on her... because we haven't seen her in any BBS scans. (I wonder why...) But I'm sure that when we see her... she'll have a bronze symbol on her somewhere. It only makes sense. I could be wrong, though
