Actually Qwe, Kairi wasn't born on Destiny Islands. She was sent there by Ansem the Wise when she was around 5 years olds on the night of a meteor shower. She then stayed with the Mayor and his wife and grew up there. Just thought you should know that. Kairi's parents mostly were from Radiant Garden, but I believe from all the heartless attacks, they either are in another world, or lost their hearts to the Heartless. That's what I think anyways.

Maybe Kairis parents get killed before she went on Destiny islands and lived with her grandmother before Wise Ansem send her on Destiny islands...

Maybe. It's anyone's guess unless they say what happened to them. I just said what I thought. That also makes sense too. That may have been why she asked where she was, if she went to live with her grandmother in a new place, she wouldn't be familiar with the area. And that may be why the grandmother told that exetremely long story of the origin of the darkness, maybe to state the Heartless that took away her parents... but hey, it could be anything.

She may be a Princess of Heart, but that doesn't always make it so that they're the Princess of their world, although it may seem that way but Alice was a Princess of Heart even though Alice was just a schoolgirl. So when, and if, Kairi's parents were taken by the Heartless, her grandmother would have taken costody of her. And she probably asked her grandmother where she was, because it wasn't her old home, where she would live with her parents.
