I dunno, ever played KotOR? In the beginning of the first one, there this one guy (can't remember his name) who fights off a Sith with regular swords.

Actually, every Soul Calibur character have normal weapon and fight fine against laser sword.
I'm on the easiest difficulty T_T

lol How is that a lightsaber can cut through 20 tons of metal yet be blocked by a simple 30 ounce sword?
I think it's the energy applied to the weapon. If a mere dude wields the sword, the lightsaber will cut it, if it's Auron, then his power makes the sword able to hold.

In KotOR, the weapons were made with a cortosis weave to deflect lightsabers.
in The Revenge of the Sith, they were electrical (those dudes who were with grievous)
