Nomura doesn't really consider the battle important, however Terra just thought he was Xehanort and he wasn't the one he chose. Maybe for the Keyblade. It was supposed to go to Riku. Maybe Master Xehanort was stealing all the keyblades (looked like it in Birth by Sleep).

I think that Terra was beating up sora to see if the keyblade really picked the right master, because he was hoping that riku would show up instead of sora. Another thing, he could have mistaken sora as Xehanort.
