why the hell am I asking you guys this but....

Okay so I was sleeping one night and had terrible dreams that I was vomiting stomach acid. When I woke up, I suppose I may have been half right. My throat/upper stomach ached terribly bad...I must have had some atrocious acid reflux throughout the night.

I never get acid reflux so it caught me by surprise, and it must have been bad throughout the entire hours of the night because my upper stomach/lower esophagus hurts as if it were an open wound. Everytime I drink/eat anything, even water, the passing of it over where the acid was feels like you were tossing salt over an open gash. I ate some breaded chicken and as it went down it scraped across the sore part and it hurt so bad I teared up. If I take a deep breath my lungs push against that side of my stomach/throat I guess and it hurts.

My mom had stomach ulcers and problems all throughout her life and gave me some natural anti-acids and things to aid digestion so it can "heal" but I don't really know what to do other than that.

This is the third day and it feels like I have a raw tear down my throat/stomach. On the first day it felt like my throat was actually more hollow as if it eroded or something. It was really bad I don't know how the hell my stomach acid got so strong and attacked me in my sleep.

Anyway, any advice? You think this will just heal normally or do you think I may have created a bad ulcer that I should get checked out? I can't even eat without cringing on every swallow because it scrapes against that area of my throat.

Thanks.

Oh and if you don't have any experience or knowledge about this please don't post bullshit advice (aka go take a shit you will feel better).

It's only been like 3 days so I dunno.

I've been to a gastroenterologist before as a child, and they just prescribed an endoscopy/colonoscopy xD which sucks.

I'd be concerned all they'd do is prescribe an endoscopy or something, worst-case-scenario, say "Oh yeah, you have acid reflux damage. Here. Take Prevacid or some other prescription anti-acid and wait for it to get better." Which is kind of what I'm already doing.

You don't know if it's anything serious, is it really worth waiting it out?

It isn't hard to go to the doctor, honestly. Even if it isn't a big deal, at least you can stop worrying about it.

Hmmm I'm glad people are in unison.

I talked with my mom and I'm going to make an emergency appointment with my family doctor tomorrow..hopefully they'll see me.

The gastro-intestinal specialist is downtown and requires months-in-advance of appointment anticipation (not sure about emergency cases)....so I'll visit the family physician first and if they find anything that would need more specialized analysis, I'm sure they can get me an appointment with a GI specialist asap.

:( ugh looks like a soft-food/basic pH/liquid only diet for a while. Hard/acidic food hurts too much.

There are no doctors on these forums

I suggest getting off KHI and seeing a real doctor

I'm starting to think it may be a hernia or something. The pain has kind of identified itself as feeling like something actually in my chest and it's starting to hurt as I breathe.
May still be stomach/esophageal acid burn, but if not, it may be a hernia..

Going to the doctor bright and early tomorrow, but if the pain escalates I'm going to the ER.
UGHHHH I have tests to study!! I don't have time for this b.s.! :(

Well I can't give any medical advice, given that the heartburn I've experienced has probably been at best mild.
But-

UGHHHH I have tests to study!! I don't have time for this b.s.! :(

Shouldn't even be a concern.

Study within your means. If you don't have ample time before the tests come up, could you find a way to stay out and make them up later?

If that's the case, be sure to get a note while you're at the ER just to be prepared.
Obviously, if it's a bit more serious, then you should automatically be excused, but there's no point in penalizing you for at least checking into what could be a dangerous condition.

Good luck.

Actually, the same thing happened to me a couple nights ago and my throat still hurts like a bitch.

Re-assess your diet to see if there are certain foods/drinks that give you heartburn, and then: avoid them.

I found that I can drink pop just fine (however it does generate a shitton of acid in other peoples' stomachs), but orange juice makes makes me spit acid as well as chocolate and things made from tomatoes.

Pop antacids if you get it once in a while, but it it recurs, you might want to see a doctor to get an otc monthly pill.

Just got back from the E.R.

I don't think I've ever screamed that loud in a room in my life. One of the tests involved me drinking 2 cups of a dye that would stain my GI tract....well the varium or whatever it is in the substance passed a sensitive area of my stomach and I screamed bloody murder for 10 minutes and almost got an oxygen mask on me because I couldn't even breathe from the pain. It was the worst thing I've ever felt in my life.

Well the tests, and that, apparently indicated that I had upset a pretty raw ulcer in my stomach....it came about from stress (likely all the damn exams I've been having, working on my home tests for college, and correspondence course dates...).

I got some prescription anti-acid and other medicine to help it heal...but in the meantime it hurts to eat/drink anything and I have to be careful that my nausea doesn't cause me to vomit acid or I may just hurt the ulcer even more.

This sucks. The entire night sucks.

*chugs anti-acid*

Goodnight :(
