I have to say, I'm surprised that this thread actually reached a second page, when it shouldn't have even existed in your mind in the first place. (no, I'm not flaming you). Seriously, there is no 'Oh, I personally don't think they are gay" or "nah, I doubt it, they have a deep bond and friendship." Come on people, that bit's obvious. This isn't an opinion, it should be a fact. They aren't gay. And the people who even started this stupid idea when KH came out know that they aren't gay. They're just confused people (with their heads in a different dimension) noticing some SMALL evidence that could suggest that some of the KH characters are gay, and then they start an entire fanfiction about it. They pay attention to allllll these petty details and evidence, while ignoring the evidence that prove they aren't gay. Think of it, as one of the members said, Disney wouldn't let out a game if (rated freaking E, mind you) if the characters were gay. That and why in the hell, just why, would Nomura want to make the characters gay, when really, the only romance is between Kairi and Sora. I suppose the people who come up with these ideas

3) must not have any [true] friends, or even know of that word, if they conclude that the deep friendship is homosexual.

Yaoi fangirls are not "messed up", they have friends, and I seriously hope none of them are Chris Crocker. They're allowed to write all the fanfiction they want. If people can write Sora/Kairi fics where everyone is OOC, then what's wrong with fangirls writing Axel screwing Sora, especially when those fangirls are much better writers than the LOLGAYPPLSUK writers. Not that everyone who writes het fics are homophobes. I love Axel/Roxas as a pairing only because of their strong friendship.
Fangirls could make the agrument that Axel & Roxas are gay in the canon, as neither of them has a romantic relationship that conflicts with that. I really can't consider Roxas/Namine canon. Namine has feelings for Sora, but she thinks of Roxas as her twin. She even says so in the novels. And I doubt Roxas developed deep, meaningful feelings for her over the three times he talked to her. Mickey/Sephiroth is more likely than Roxas/Namine. Plus, Axel is a serious fruitcake.
But Sora & Riku? Not a chance. While I adore their friendship, both of them have feelings for Kairi. Sora does seem to care more about Riku than Kairi at times, but that's only because he's so immature.
Personally, I think Axel/Namine needs more fic love.
There are a number of reason's why. First, a lot of these writings come from hormonal teenagers that find eroticism more exciting then, say, platonic love (yes, being girls they are more likely to permit some SHALLOW form of platonic love, but... homrones still, right?). The majority of these teenagers are probably girls, who have just as much right to do what guys might do with two hawt chicks, amirite?
I do not belive any of these characters are gay. Sure, there seems to be some very strong male emotions going on in the game, but really these characters are being more blunt (open?) about their feelings than a real life guy. I know I feel a deep affinity towards some of my masculine friends, but I'm never goig to come out and say it, or express it the way the characters in teh game do. Know why? because society has built this preconcieved notion about guys who openly express sentiment, which works extremely well in tandem with the stereotypes about gay males, and being a het, I don't want to be labled a homo. Anyone follow?

Most of the fans (both girls & guys) who write Axel/Roxas or whatever don't just write porn. There are plenty of nice, G-rated AkuRoku fics out there. And most of them like all types of pairings. Gay, lesbian, and heterosexual. They also write non-romantic fics too. Believe it or not, the "crazy yaoi fangirls" are capable of writing Axel & Roxas as just friends.
So just because I ship Axel/Roxas, I'm a horny bratty teenager girl?
And since I ship Aerith/Tifa, I'm a guy?
But because I love Riku/Kairi & Axel/Namine, I'm perfectly normal?
I'll agree that your generalization is true with some of the fangirls, but to say that everyone who thinks Axel & Roxas could possibly have a romantic relationship is completely hormone-driven is just ignorant.

Besides, I was merely addressing the yaoi, not the fanfics that do not have to do with it. I will aknknowledge they exist, however. But the OP wants to talk about why the gaynes, so I did not address any other kind of non-yaoi fanfiction.
But, I will assert that hormones probably have something to do with it, as well as the current affairs over gays and marriage (>.>). I doubt of the writing, story-wise, is actually didactic, or meant to be, for that matter.

Honestly, whether or not people want to say ______ is/is not gay in the game, doesn't matter. They're entitled to their own opinion based on their interpretations of the game.

Axel/riku/sora/kiari/donald/goofy can be as queer as anyone wants to make them. I don't really have a problem with it lol. I just didn't really want to write a novel about the individuals who sit in the back of the classroom, clad in black, and talk about how deep Donny Darko is, though I won't deny that there are individuals who see through the materialistic and trivial pursuit (lol, love that game, right?) of life, even at a young age.

For all of those that think that some characters on Kh is gay, I've never noticed or payed attention to it, and we all know where your minds are(in the gutter). If you think some charactrers are gay and if it bothers you that much then dont play the game or dont even talk about it.

Yaoi fangirls can use pretty much anything as "yaoi hints". Example:
"ZOMG AXEL JUST TALKED TO ROXAS. HE'S TOTALLY GAY FOR HIM. 8D"
Okay, okay, they're not usually so... well, stupid but some fangirls do think like that.
Really, they just perceive Roxas & Axel's relationship as romantic/sexual because of their friendship of awesome. And Axel's actions in KH2, i.e. doing everything he can to get Roxas back, being creepy, trying to get Roxas back, kidnapping Kairi, trying to get Roxas back, dying; all that just proves they're having hot buttsex with each other in the minds of fangirls.

The entire reason for those people to seem gay was to add plot.
By making Axel look like a gay kid we got to see that even thou Nobodies don't have hearts they can feel emotion in a sense, something that may be broadcast more in 358/2.
IMO Roxas didn't really look gay at all in the series. I instantly saw that he was simply friends with Axel, and his heart was for Namine.
Sora was seen as gay because of his emotion towards Riku. Can u imagine how pointless the game would have been if he was like "Omg Kairi your safe!...Oh sup Riku" I would have been like WTF!! He goes through TWO games looking for the bastard and never ONCE hating him, no shit he's going to be emotion after he finds him after more than a year of not knowing whether he's safe or not. That's common sense IMO
