With the reveal of Melody of Memory bringing the rhythm game genre of game play to Kingdom Hearts, a lot of people having started talking about other gameplay modes they'd like to see for a future Kingdom Hearts game.

Few examples I've seen around the web include things like a first person shooter staring Xigbar, or even things like a skateboard sim with the twilight town skateboards (lol).

All memes aside, I thought it would be fun to see what other gameplay types or genres might actually work for a Kingdom Hearts title.

So what ideas do you guys have ?

I've been writing a wishful co-op Namine/Xion game (ICO style) in which Namine has the ability to "draw" paths (Fortnite style? 😱) and Xion hacks and slashes to cover her back as they explore huge gorgeous maps (and they'd hold hands a lot because it'd be cute af). Don't know if it makes sense.

KH needs a co-op game.

I actually would love a traditional JRPG with the Kingdom Heart cast ala Final Fantasy's turn based/ATB system.

Give them jobs and play it like a old FF game with the characters taking turns. Party of four or even five characters. Lot's of old school strategies with the characters skills. This would also be a great way to have all the Keyblade wielders play differently and have non Keyblade wielders join the adventure too. Examples of jobs
Sora-Freelancer
Riku-Dark Knight
Kairi-White Mage
Aqua-Sage
Terra-Gladiator
Ventus-Warrior
Roxas-Samurai
Xion-Blue Mage/Mime
Axel-Mystic Knight
Namine-Oracle
Isa-Berserk

A RPG like this would be uber fun to customize and I'd get lost in the fun.

For me personally, its not really a new mode we haven't seen, but rather a mode I want to see return and improved upon is the online pvp arena from BBS. I would love this mode to be available in a main numbered title and be able to set up our own combos and see how you do against an actual person in a 1 on 1 scenario.

Maybe have team matches up to say 3v3 or so.

Basically I want a game where we can play Shift Pride but with KH3 combat.

Oh, you mean like a player vs player deal? That would be so insane and likely break the entire arena. Guarding would be a major Op staple. I'm all for that!

Instead of changing the fighting mechanics (though I'm not against it) I'd rather improve other aspects of the gameplay, such as the interactions with the worlds and the environment. Level design in KH1 incorporated some tricky platforming (at least before getting glide) and puzzle-solving mechanics that, despite being very basic, were implemented in a good way, encouraging and rewarding exploration. However, those mechanics have been greatly simplified and reduced in subsequent titles.

In games like the Uncharted and Tomb Raider series I like the puzzle solving more than the actual fighting. Golden Sun games are also a good example, specially focusing on how magic can be used for something else and not just for fighting. I would like future KH games to retake those mechanics and expand them. That way the worlds would feel less empty and exploring them would be a lot more rewarding.
I know this has been mentioned many times before, but it's what I want the most.

About the fighting mechanics, I recently finished FFXII The Zodiac Age and a gambit-like system for Donald, Goofy and any companion characters would be a huge improvement. I know they have a few different settings to choose from, including one that can be customised, but while it works fine, it is severely lacking in options.

I’m not lying when I say I would want a visual novel or a decision-based adventure like Life Is Strange.

KH Musou but not as bloated as modern Musous are.

KH Dissidia because WE WERE ROBBED.

Something like the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi games where you can pick any KH character to fight with. Though I imagine Disney could restrict certain Disney characters

Warriors/Musou

A whole game of that, please.
Whoah we almost got the Behemoth heartless in KH2? Too bad they were cut, those are one of my favorite heartless types

At this rate, a non-KH Disney fighter will happen bfore D:KH.
This game pisses me off so much because it just goes and proves that:

1) Nomura could have totally made KH Dissidia
2) Disney execs are LIARS and intentionally restrict KH but let Disney Infinity and this mobile game get away with whatever
3) We deserve any and all KH fighters with Disney characters fighting included

I would love a fighting game like Injustice featuring any character that was ever in KH.

I really would love a turn-based FFX-2 style game with the KH girls. Instead of switching into scantily clad outfits for fan boys to enjoy, the outfit switches can be from Kairi's connection to the princesses of heart. The other people on her team (Xion and Aqua) will be able to switch outfits too based on their connection to Kairi. Namine will be there as well (cutscene only) and be the Jiminy of the group.

Beyond the infinite sea of stars and just a few worldlines down the lane... a slightly greasier world of Light has been plunged into a seemingly endless mire of phantasmagoric slaughter, as the ravenous Grand Heartless Army threatens to snuff out light and love itself. The painstakingly graphic records would later deem this accursed era:

GUMMI WARS

Things are looking bleak for King Sora's Royal Battallion. Dread Captain Ansem's darkships have breached the Destiny Belt, once thought to be impenetrable to archaic shadow technology. The Federation of Witches, while officially neutral, has abandoned cooperation with King Sora and has begun to sow seeds of doubt and discord throughout the worlds, apparently in alliance with vicious Ansem. Worst of all, the sudden yet somehow expected death of Queen Kairi has left the crestfallen King unfit to pilot the great hope of the resistance: KEYBLADE, the holy ship that's also a giant robot, which runs on the power of love. With Keyblade dormant, faith in the crown and General Leon's forces have begun to dwindle. Many ponder the intentions of mysterious Count Riku, who returned empty-handed and injured from a two-year diplomacy mission to suddenly find himself acting regent at the request of the despondent king. The light grows dimmer...

Until one day, while en route to indefinite storage beneath Hollow Base, Keyblade awakens! Immediately transforming from ship to knight, hurtling itself off the transport lift and crashing into the adjacent garbage belt leading into the incinerator below. After destroying the belt and halting the trashflow, Keyblade goes dormant once again. Upon reaching the mecha, soldiers find cradled in its robot arms a filthy, chained crate that was headed for incineration.

And inside that crate, they find YOU.

Who are you? Who is this enigmatic person to awaken the sleeping guardian when no other could? Why were you in the garbage? How are you such a natural at both piloting Keyblade, while also bringing out his ultimate potential? How are you so adept at pushing back the Heartless fleet one thrilling mission at a time, across bizarre worlds where the skies flow seamlessly into the sea? How are you so good with mining gummi chunks on foot from both inanimate and hostile sources with a magical tool in minimalist yet satisfying combat, just to switch things up a bit between campaigns? How is piloting Keyblade such a perfectly smooth blend of rail-shooter, mecha action, futuristic racing and rewarding exploration, with the most dazzling display of light and color ever seen to man? Why are all the male characters so aggressively drawn to you, and why do they offer multiple dialogue options which alter the course of the story? How is everyone so ripped? Why does Keyblade gain special abilities as romance blossoms? Who can be trusted in this sea of deceit and despair? Who will you take to the last royal ball at the Castle of Dreams before the darkness swallows us all? What does love have to do with robots?

All of these questions will be answered in the stand-alone epic saga that is... Gummi Wars.

I want a GTA5 like gameplay for KH. Switching between the characters whenever I want. Also imagine being Luxu/Xigbar in Radiant Garden with his weapons, being in gang wars and dealing with Lux (instead of drugs). Luxord would have his own casino.
I mean a gangster version of KH. Don’t judge me.

We were so robbed by this. Dissidia should have been a KH game to begin with. I still believe Namine would fit the role of Cosmos perfectly.

Back to the topic, I would love a storytale game ala "The wolf among us", with QTEs for combat scenes.

I would have said I want at least one game like final fantasy, a turn based game but does Dark road count? It seems to be a turned base combat.
