That's why I think there's some interference with Kingdom Hearts.

Exactly. Or is it maybe some sort of mutation in the unbirths that spreads itself with Resident Evil like quality, affecting the heats of those it infects.

The end of BBS must've screwed it up horrendously then, seeing how if we say Unbirths were an anomaly in and of themselves, that it turned into the Heartless/Nobodies combo.
This kind of supports my notion MX was trying to fix things (make the Unbirths go away) but TAV intervening stopped him halfway because of his methods.

That kind of supports Kairi's grandmother's fairy tale being a tad more than just a fairy tale, seeing how it says a lot more people had Hearts of Pure Light - the Darkness couldn't turn them into Heartless.
The true irony would be if that was really the case, and in order to prevent Unbirths, somehow they spread Darkness into every Heart they could, just a tad - but that was more than enough in the long run.

While you two are on Ansems experiments, He said that he also made an artifical Heartless. Did he make an artifical heart or artifical darkness or both to make this possible?

While the possibility of a fake Heart exists (Repliku), it's mostly agreed to take it as he artificially embed Darkness into a real Heart.
In the long run it doesn't matter all that much, imo, seeing how Emblem Heartless turn the Hearts they steal into more Emblem Heartless.

Xehanort was probably infusing real Hearts with real Darkness, but without the Body and Soul being in the way (hence Nobodies)
