If you noticed, all of the characters have different personalities. Seifer was designed to seem like a thug in the beginning of II, Beat was designed to use slang for a more interesting male character than a brooding Neku and a sarcastic (but lovable) Joshua. And I doubt they think they're "bad-ass", if you remember, these are the same people who yelled "Roxas JUMP!!!" and ripped their pants. Would you rather have a Sora-clone or a different character?

One of them yelled "Roxas JUMP!!!" while some of the others think they're ghetto-hipsters apparently <_<

Beat's the type of person who never put much thought into whether or not what he said was proper English. As long as he can protect Rhyme, nothing else matters.

And it's not supposed to be realistic; I think it's supposed to be exaggerated as it is.

I understand that he wouldn't put thought into what he said, but I don't put thought into every sentence I say, and I still say "are" instead of "is." If he just says "is" off the top of his head, Beat is really, REALLY stupid (I'm talking about never made it past 3rd grade, which is obviously not the case).

Also, exaggerated =/= stupid.

It's exaggerated. What makes them think they're ghetto hipsters? Because they design a character that speaks with slang? Does that mean H.P. Lovecraft speaks R'lyehian? Also, half of the people I know say "is" instead of "are" and they're very smart.

Slang is like an accent for some people, once they start using it they are pretty much stuck with it

Same with me. I am a college student but doesn't mean I can't use slang. Plus, if japan can use their wordplay, we (Americans) should use it too.

jkjkjk I had to use it again, I know people speak slang everywhere, I'm just literally having trouble with that ONE word, "is." I live by (not in) one of the most ghetto towns in the east coast, but I just don't hear that much...I'll start listening more, but until then, it will continue to sound odd to me.
