Halo has much more acclaim than KH, and has records to prove it.
Sales don't prove whether something is good or not. Fred has over a million subscribers? Is he good? Heck no! So "sales" is not a legitimate excuse at all.
I'd think if something is selling millions that it definetly defines something by main standards (Not yours) as "good".
Oh please, most gamers "standards" are just shooting the crap out of each other mindlessly or playing football on a 360 because they're too lazy to play sports in real life -_- And again, there are a million people who love Miley Cyrus. Is she good? No. So again, sales and popularity does not equal good.
You've played Halo right? Not just a little of a match here, and there, but the actual story, firefights, and seen Reach right? Those easily prove it's above what a "Generic FPS" thing you speak of.
Yes, I've seen all the hype on Reach, played the story, watched the story and gameplay, etc. I get it, okay? But do you know what? I STILL call it a generic FPS.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Halo is bad... but it's just another FPS. "Oh Halo has a story!" so do all other FPS's. It's story isn't even that interesting in all honesty.
Then again thats is the typical banter, and whining that leads JRPG, and RPG excuse not to play as they don't have their little "fire!", or "Lightning bolt!". Your given a pistol no it doesn't shoot out lightning, or defy gravity. You've got to be pretty bold, or pretty damn stupid to say that an RPG can beat out FPS with just using so little examples like that.
I'm just saying that Halo doesn't have much to offer from being an FPS. And it doesn't need to defy gravity or shoot lightning or any of that. But most FPS's are nearly the exact same gameplay. The ONLY FPS that I've seen that pulled some good originality into it was Portal (Portal 2 looks awesome by the way). Most FPS's are not that different from each other. Most of the time, it's just the same video game copies and pasted and they just replace the models, story, and actors and give it a different title. Other than that, they're exactly the same.
Your just further examplifying the fact that you've barely played any shooters to base that assumption on, and proving that KH is your comfort zone.
Again, why are you assuming KH is the only flippin' game I play? I swear your as bad as the 360 fanboys who go "Oh, you don't play Halo?! You're a freakin' PS3 fanboy!"
Mario, Zelda, Sonic, .hack, Final Fantasy, Portal, Golden Eye, Star Wars games, Lego series (I actually think the lego series are like FPS's... meaning that all their games are the exact same game with a different movie it's based on), Star Fox 64 (can't wait for the remake on the 3DS), Half-Life (I don't know, but this is just much more enjoyable to me than Halo is) and so on.
These are all games that I like. Out of all the ones I listed, only 2 of them are RPGs and 3 of them are FPS's.
