axel said he was basically the same guy, but that doesn't mean his appearance was exact...in fact, I doubt it was. Nobodies always have looked at least a TAD different from what we've seen so far.

Why go that far though? Look at Xehanort's Heartless and Xemnas. The two are spitting images of one another.
Namine and Roxas both have the Ven Factor going for them. Hence their colors differ from Kairi and Sora. They look exactly alike as well though.
