When are we expecting news?

No official word on KH4 today is crazy. Not even a mention. And given how they put the Steam trailer together, I'm feeling very scared about future KH trailers spoiling everything and basically repeating KH3's downfall

The last couple KH3 trailers were Not Good either, and I'm not talking about the spoilers, it's par for the course with square, the editing, the sound mixing, it's just, urgh.

Maybe I'm being pedantic but I think the fact they used "emotional" and "heartwarming" to describe KH says a lot. It feels a lot like the scenes they used was meant to evoke feelings and it just... didn't...

When I see some of the later KH3 trailers I get the same feeling, that they're not showing off the game, they're just trying to evoke some feeling in fans and get hype based off that.

I would legit love a Simpsons world in KH. It doesn't even have to be based off normal Simpsons, it could be a Treehouse of Horror version made for KH.

That video was what made me think of them for the resemblance, but there’s a running gag in Abbott where Barbara confused celebrities (I forgot the gag was she confused white and black celebrities)

Hopefully we dont get any news until the game is within its launch year. I know they need to keep investors happy and all but, KH3's dripfed trailers were WHACK and led to a lot of (unfounded) speculation that just never came true. I want them to learn from that mistake and do better.

Said this in the other thread, but with Missing Link pre-registration now confirmed to be starting soon, chances are high for it to be at SGF. It would frankly be a huge misstep if they just dropped a trailer or announcement on their socials rather than having a trailer at a gaming event like this.

And if ML is there, at least a teaser for KH4 should come along with it. It’ll only benefit Missing Link to have some KH4 hype fueling it.

NatetheHate2 (good track record) is theorising Sony will do a state of play next week, which matches what Grubb said (who said it could be a SoP or a showcase).

People say the difference between a Showcase and a State of Play is first party games are at Showcases and not State of Plays, but there's the Astro Bot game leaked from Billbil-kun (excellent track record as I think they get marketing materials directly and often leak PS+ lineups) who says that announcement is within the next 15 days.
And then there's Lego Horizon that's been spoken about as well. Until Dawn is due out later this year too so it might be there too since it was in the last State of Play.

Astro Bot and Lego Horizon will soothe my Quadratum filled wounds.

The Showcase focus on first party, and the State of Play on third party but also show first party.

I guess it will be announced on Tuesday, because Monday is Memorial Day.

I think I’m writing off the PS event for KH news at this point. SGF just makes more sense to me with a 2-3 hit combo of ML, Steam ports, and KH4. The former two wouldn’t be at the PS event obviously. And if they’re serious about multi-platform, I think SGF is the better venue so it doesn’t seem like they are still favoring PlayStation.

There also just seems to be plenty PS could show to fill a State of Play with what Chaser mentioned plus Silent Hill, MGS Delta (not exclusive, but was revealed at a PS Showcase,) potential Ghost of Tsushima sequel, and maybe the PS5 Pro.

They just changed leadership so who knows if the current Showcase / State of Play rules still apply (no first party, announced a week in advanced etc.). After the duds of the last handful of Showcases, it might be good to really shake things up and build State of Plays up.

I'm thinking the Pro won't be announced until closer to its release. No point in losing out on summer purchases by making the general public aware that a better console is a couple of months away.

I don’t think there’s anything saying they aren’t having major releases in the next two years.

They’re forecasting a 14% drop in sales from last year (the FY ending in March 2024.) I’m not a financial expert by any means, but I assume this means there likely won’t be as many releases between now and March 2025.

During FY2024, we had these new releases:

FFXVI
DQ Infinity Strash
Star Ocean The Second Story R
DQ The Dark Prince
Ever Crisis
Foamstars
FFVII Rebirth

So far for FY25, we have:

Saga Emerald Beyond
FFXIV Dawntrail
Visions of Mana
Missing Link

Dawntrail alone should be a big portion of this year’s sales. SaGa’s not doing big numbers. I’m not sure what to expect from Visions. I know there are people like myself who have never played Mana, but are interested to check it out to scratch the DQ/KH itch. So it could do fairly well, but still probably not anything super groundbreaking.

If they don’t have anything else at all though besides those, I could still see KH4 releasing late this fiscal year. Like maybe March near the 23rd anniversary when a bulk of its sales will still count toward FY26.

But I think sometime in FY26, which starts April 2025 is a safer bet at this point. Who knows, they could release it on 4/10/2025 exactly three years after the announcement. That’s a Thursday, but Rebirth released in a Thursday too.

While I agree that SGF is the most likely place for the trailer since the ML+KH4 combo like last year with EC+FF7 Rebirth, I wouldn't rule out Sony show as well. As far as I know for FF7, they dropped reveal trailer for the two FF7 mobile games just on youtube right after Remake Intergrade reveal at Sony State of Play. It's not as ideal, but they might feel it's ok to just release ML trailer without any showcase since it's a mobile game...

That’s true! Depending how close we actually are to release, they could still go off like they did for E3 2018 and have something at the PS event, SGF, and even the Xbox showcase. It would be insane, but fans would love it. And the hype could drive a lot of traffic to the Steam ports.
